1. A manufacturer of electrical appliances prepares two types of table lamps. For preparing first
type of table lamp raw material of Rs. 4 is to be used and 3 hours are to be spared. For
preparing the second type of table lamp raw material of Rs. 5 is to be used and 5 hours are to
be spared. The manufacturer wishes to spend at the most Rs. 200 on raw materials and he
can spare at the most 180 working hours. A profit of Rs. 5 can be earned on each type of first
table lamp and that of Rs. 7 can be earned on each of the second table lamp. How many table
lamps of each type should be made so as to earn a maximum profit?
2. For the upcoming festive season, Delicious Sweets is planning to offer two gift packages A and
B. Each package will comprise of sweets S1, S2 and S3. Package A contains 20 units of S1,
15 units of S2 and 10 units of S3. Package B contains 10 units of S1, 30 units of S2 and 12
units of S3. Total quantities of S1, S2 and S3 available to Delicious Sweets are 40,000 units,
60,000 units and 27,000 units respectively. The profit per unit on package A is Rs. 200 and on
package B is Rs. 300. Formulate this problem as a liner programming problem. Assuming that
all the packages will be sold, solve the problem use the graphical method to determine how
many packages of A and B should be prepared to maximize the profit?
3. The Marriot Tub Company manufactures two lines of bathtubs, called model A and model B.
Every tub requires blending a certain amount of steel and zinc; the company has available a
total of 25000 pounds of steel and 6000 pounds of zinc, Each model A bathtub requires a
mixture of 125 pounds of steel and 20 pounds of zinc and each yields a profit to the firm of
$90. Each model B tub produced can be sold fora profit of $70; it in turn requires 100 pounds
of steel and 30 pounds of zinc. Find by graphical method the best production mix of bathtubs
to maximize profits.
4. A manufacturing concern manufactures two products A and B. The products go through three
processes: processing, fabrication and assembly. The manufacturing time per unit required to
make them, the profit per unit, and the capacity available at each work center are as follows

5. A chemical firm produces automobile cleaner X and polisher Y and realizes a profit of Rs. 10
and Rs. 30 on each batch of X and Y respectively. Both products require processing through
the same machines A and B. X requires 4 hours in machine A and 8 hours in machine B. Y
requires 6 hours in machine A and 4 hours in machine B. During the forthcoming week,
machines A and B have 12 hours and 16 hours of available capacity respectively.
a. Formulate the linear programming problem assuming that the demand exists for both the
products.
b. How many batches of each should be produced to realize the optimal profit? (Use
graphical method)
6. Granth Publisher is in the process of publishing a new book to be marketed. The book may be
bound by either cloth or hard paper. Each cloth bound book contributes Rs. 24 while each hard
paper bound book contributes Rs 23. It takes 10 minutes to bind a cloth cover and 8 minutes
to bind a paper cover. The total time available for binding is 800 hours. A market survey
forecasts that cloth cover sales will exceed 1000 copies whereas hard paperback sales will not
be more than 6000 copies. Find the optimal solution.
If each scientific calculator sold results in a $2 loss, but each graphing calculator produces a
$5 profit, how many of each type should be made daily to maximize net profits?
8. A finished product must weigh exactly 150 grams. The two raw materials used in
manufacturing the product are A, with a cost of Rs, 2 per unit and B with a cost of Rs. 8 per
unit. At least 14 units of B and not more than 20 units of A must be used, Each unit of A and B
weighs 5 and 10 grams respectively. How much of each type of raw material should be used
for each unit of the final product in order to minimize the cost?
9. A diet is to contain at least 2000 units of carbohydrates, 1000 units of fat and 600 units of
protein, Two foods A and B are available. Food A costs Rs.20 per unit and food B costs Rs.40
per unit. A unit of food A contains 20 units of carbohydrates, 26 units of fat and 30 units of
protein, A unit of food B contains 80 Units of carbohydrates, 25 units of fat and 40 units of
protein, Formulate the problem as an LPP so as to find the minimum cost for a diet that
consists of a mixture of these two foods and also meets the minimum requirements.
10. Fresh from Farms company wishes to prepare a supply of special fertilizer at a minimal cost by
mixing two fertilizers, A and B. The mixture is to contain at least 45 units of phosphate at least
36 units of nitrate at least 40 units of ammonium Fertilizer A costs the shop Rs. 50.00 per kg
and Fertilizer B costs the shop Rs. 65 per kg. Fertilizer A contains 10 units of phosphate and 4
units of nitrate and 4 units of ammonium while fertilizer B contains 5 units of phosphate and 6
units of nitrate and 10 units of ammonium. How many units of each fertilizer should the firm
use in order to minimize their cost? Use graphical method to solve the linear programming
problem.
