Preface
Audience
This book is written for hardware installer/service personnel, system integrators, and
field engineers.
Notice: This document is NCR proprietary information and is not to be disclosed or
reproduced without consent.
Safety Requirements
The NCR SelfServ™ 90 (7709) conforms to all applicable legal requirements. To view the
compliance statements see the NCR SelfServ™ Kiosks Safety and Regulatory Information
(B005-0000-2063) document.
Caution: The on/off switch is a logic switch only. The AC line voltage primaries are live
at all times when the power cord is connected. Therefore, disconnect the AC power
cord before opening the unit to install features or service this terminal.
IT Power System
This product is suitable for connection to an IT power system with a phase-to-phase
voltage not exceeding 240 Vac.
Peripheral Usage
This kiosk should only be used with peripheral devices that are certified by the
appropriate safety agency for the country of installation (UL, CSA, TUV, VDE) or those
which are recommended by NCR Corporation.
Warning: DO NOT connect or disconnect any serial peripherals while the terminal
is connected to AC power. This can result in system or peripheral damage.
ii
Grounding Instructions
In the event of a malfunction or breakdown, grounding provides a path of least
resistance for electric current to reduce the risk of electric shock. This product is
equipped with an electric cord having an equipment-grounding conductor and a
grounding plug. The plug must be plugged into a matching outlet that is properly
installed and grounded in accordance with all local codes and ordinances. Do not
modify the plug provided – if it will not fit the outlet, have the proper outlet installed by
a qualified electrician. Improper connection of the equipment-grounding conductor can
result in a risk of electric shock.
The conductor with insulation having an outer surface that is green with or without
yellow stripes is the equipment-grounding conductor.
If repair or replacement of the electric cord or plug is necessary, do not connect the
equipment-grounding conductor to a live terminal. Check with a qualified electrician or
service personnel if the grounding instructions are not completely understood, or if you
are in doubt as to whether the product is properly grounded.
Use only 3-wire extension cords that have 3-prong grounding plugs and 3-pole
receptacles that accept the product’s plug. Repair or replace damaged or worn cords
immediately.
Pedestal Mount
If the NCR SelfServ™ 90 (7709) is mounted on a pedestal, the pedestal MUST be
anchored to the floor. This prevents the product from being accidentally knocked over
and striking someone.
iii

8 Introduction
Component Access
The front of the kiosk pivots forward and down for internal component access. This is
necessary to install paper in the printer and to clear printer jams should they occur.
Internal access is also required when Customer Services need to perform kiosk service
functions. Make sure that the service clearance provided at the installed location is
sufficient.
• To access the kiosk components, insert the key into the lock at the right-hand side of
the kiosk, turn the key clockwise and then, carefully open the front of the kiosk.
Caution: Do NOT abruptly open and release the front of the kiosk. Hold and support
the front of the kiosk until fully extended.
Introduction 9
Installation Restrictions
The following restrictions must be observed when installing a NCR SelfServ™ 90 (7709).
• Before installing the kiosk, read and follow the guidelines in the NCR SelfServ™ 90
(7709) Site Preparation Guide and the NCR Workstation and Peripherals AC Wiring
Guide.
• Install the NCR SelfServ™ 90 (7709) near an electrical outlet that is easily accessible.
Use the power cord as a power disconnect device.
• Do not permit any object to rest on the power cord. Do not locate the NCR
SelfServ™ 90 (7709) where the power cord can be walked on.
• Use a grounding strap or touch a grounded metal object to discharge any static
electricity from your body before servicing the NCR SelfServ™ 90 (7709).
Caution: This device contains hazardous voltages and should only be serviced by
qualified service personnel.
Introduction 13
3. Drill four holes on the counter top as needed for the anchors being used.
4. Position the kiosk back on the counter top and install the four anchors. When
tightening the anchors, be sure to maintain the kiosk location identified in step 1.
Introduction 17
NCR recommends locating the Wall Mounting Bracket so that the base of the Mounting
Bracket is 907 mm (35.71 in.) above the floor. Be sure that the mounting is adequate to
support the weight of the kiosk: 23.2 kg (51.1 lb). Also, be sure that the location provides
adequate access and service clearance for the kiosk as identified in the NCR SelfServ™ 90
(7709) Site Preparation Guide.
18 Introduction
3. Align the three mounting holes on the base of the kiosk with the three Mounting
Screws on the Wall Mounting Bracket, and then slide the kiosk to the right to lock it
in place.
4. Install one Mounting Screw through the remaining mounting hole, and then tighten
all four Mounting Screws.
20 Introduction
Pedestal Installation
With the Pedestal Installation, the Pedestal must be fastened to the floor to prevent it
from being moved or knocked over. The floor construction determines the type of
anchors to use. The anchors are not shipped with the kiosk and must be obtained
locally.
The basic Pedestal includes one shelf mounted on the front, but the following options
are available:
• An optional bag rack that also mounts to the front
• An optional shelf (narrow or wide) that may be fastened to each side of the Pedestal.
Note: The Pedestal is shipped with no shelves or bag rack installed.
To install the Pedestal Mount kiosk, follow these steps:
1. Position the Pedestal at the installation location.
Note: Verify that this position permits access to the AC Power Receptacle and the
LAN Cable. Also, make sure that there is necessary access and service clearance. For
more information, refer to the NCR SelfServ™ 90 (7709) Site Preparation Guide.
2. Remove the Pedestal Base Cover by removing the two mounting screws on each side.
Introduction 21
3. There are four anchor holes on the Pedestal Base. Mark these holes on the floor, and
then remove the Pedestal.
11. Install three Mounting Screws on the Pedestal as shown in the following illustration.
Do not tighten them to leave room for the kiosk cabinet to slide under the screw
heads / lock-washers.
Note: Four Mounting Screws (M8 x 16, Socket Head Screw) with attached lock-
washer are provided to secure the kiosk to the Pedestal. The fourth screw is installed
later in the procedure.
12. Align the three mounting holes on the base of the kiosk with the three Mounting
Screws on the Pedestal, and then slide the kiosk to the right to lock it in place.

end of the paper is usually fixed to the roll with glue or other adhesive substance
that could cause a paper jam or print head damage.
4. Cut the paper at a 90–degree angle; otherwise, the paper sensor may not detect the
paper.
5. Insert a new paper roll and the paper stopper through the spindle, making sure that
the paper unrolls from the top of the roll.
Note: A click is heard when the paper stopper snaps onto the shaft.
6. Insert the paper into the paper entry at the rear of the printer. The printer
automatically feeds, cuts, ejects a printout, and goes online.
