Grounding Instructions
In the event of a malfunction or breakdown, grounding provides a path of least
resistance for electric current to reduce the risk of electric shock. This product is
equipped with an electric cord having an equipment-grounding conductor and a
grounding plug. The plug must be plugged into a matching outlet that is properly
installed and grounded in accordance with all local codes and ordinances. Do not
modify the plug provided – if it will not fit the outlet, have the proper outlet installed by
a qualified electrician. Improper connection of the equipment-grounding conductor can
result in a risk of electric shock.
The conductor with insulation having an outer surface that is green with or without
yellow stripes is the equipment-grounding conductor.
If repair or replacement of the electric cord or plug is necessary, do not connect the
equipment-grounding conductor to a live terminal. Check with a qualified electrician or
service personnel if the grounding instructions are not completely understood, or if you
are in doubt as to whether the product is properly grounded.
Use only 3-wire extension cords that have 3-prong grounding plugs and 3-pole
receptacles that accept the product’s plug. Repair or replace damaged or worn cords
immediately.

Pedestal Mount
If the NCR SelfServ™ 90 (7709) is mounted on a pedestal, the pedestal MUST be
anchored to the floor. This prevents the product from being accidentally knocked over
and striking someone.

Chapter 1: Product Overview

Overview

The NCR SelfServ™ 90 (7709) is a complete self-checkout solution that includes an

interactive touch screen display and integrated Point of Sale software. Shoppers can
scan, weigh, bag, and pay without assistance, enabling store personnel to provide
expanded customer service in other areas.
Being a Credit/Debit kiosk, the NCR SelfServ™ 90 (7709) does not accept or dispense
currency. However, it does include a coupon bin so that shoppers can scan a coupon
and then insert it into the bin. This kiosk is designed for low volume transactions;
therefore, it is ideal for checkout lanes marked for less items.
The NCR SelfServ™ 90 (7709) has three major installation configurations: Wall Mount,
Counter Top Mount, and Pedestal Mount. The basic Pedestal includes one shelf
mounted on the front. An optional bag rack is available that also mounts to the front.
An optional shelf may also be fastened to each side of the Pedestal. These optional
shelves come in two sizes: narrow and wide. The Counter Top variant provides support
to an optional counter top Security Scale.

14 Introduction

Step 2: Install the Kiosk

As a safety requirement, the NCR SelfServ™ 90 (7709) must be secured in the installed
location so that it cannot be moved. The method used to secure the kiosk depends on
the installation configuration.
The following are three different basic installation configurations available for the
NCR 7709 kiosk:
• Counter Top Mount
• Wall Mount
• Pedestal Mount
Introduction 15

Counter Top Installation

With the Counter Top Installation, the kiosk must be fastened to the counter top. The
counter top construction determines the type of anchors to use: bolts and nuts, lag bolts,
screws, and so forth. The anchors are not shipped with the kiosk and must be obtained
locally.
To install the Counter Top kiosk, follow these steps:
1. Position the kiosk on the counter top in the installed location.
Note: Make sure that the kiosk is not set too far back from the front edge of the
counter, preventing the front of the kiosk from fully opening when maintenance
and service are required. The bottom front of the kiosk cannot be any farther than
45 mm (1¾ in.) from the front edge of the counter top. Refer to the
NCR SelfServ™ 90 (7709) Site Preparation Guide for kiosk location information.
2. Mark these holes on the counter top and then remove the kiosk.
Note: There are four Mounting Holes on the bottom of the kiosk cabinet. The
diameter of these holes is 9.0 mm (0.35 in.). One hole is round and the other three
are keyholes.
16 Introduction

3. Drill four holes on the counter top as needed for the anchors being used.

4. Position the kiosk back on the counter top and install the four anchors. When
tightening the anchors, be sure to maintain the kiosk location identified in step 1.
Introduction 17

Wall Mount Installation

With the Wall Mount Installation, a special Wall Mounting Bracket is first fastened to
the wall, and then the kiosk is fastened to the Wall Mounting Bracket. The AC Power
Cord and the LAN Cable go through a hole on the bottom of the kiosk and into the
Mounting Bracket. The cables feed toward the back of the Wall Mounting Bracket and
out a hole in the bottom of it.
There are four holes in the back surface of the Wall Mounting Bracket for the mounting
anchors. Dimensions for these holes are shown in the following illustration. There are
also four larger holes in the front surface of the Mounting Bracket to access the
mounting anchors: bolts, screws, and so forth.
Note: The mounting anchors must not extend through the holes in the front surface.

NCR recommends locating the Wall Mounting Bracket so that the base of the Mounting
Bracket is 907 mm (35.71 in.) above the floor. Be sure that the mounting is adequate to
support the weight of the kiosk: 23.2 kg (51.1 lb). Also, be sure that the location provides
adequate access and service clearance for the kiosk as identified in the NCR SelfServ™ 90
(7709) Site Preparation Guide.
18 Introduction

To install the Wall Mount kiosk, follow these steps:

1. Install the Wall Mounting Bracket.
• If the customer installed the Wall Mounting Bracket, verify that it is properly
fastened to the wall. Also verify its location: proper height and adequate access
and service clearance for the installed kiosk.
• If the customer did not install the Wall Mounting Bracket, install it according to
the specifications given at the beginning of this section.
2. Install three Mounting Screws on the Mounting Bracket as shown in the following
illustration. Do not tighten them to leave room for the kiosk cabinet to slide under
the screw heads / lock-washers.
Note: Four Mounting Screws (M8 x 16, Socket Head Screw) with attached lock-
washer are provided to secure the kiosk to the Mounting Bracket. The fourth screw
is installed later in the procedure.
Introduction 19

3. Align the three mounting holes on the base of the kiosk with the three Mounting
Screws on the Wall Mounting Bracket, and then slide the kiosk to the right to lock it
in place.

4. Install one Mounting Screw through the remaining mounting hole, and then tighten
all four Mounting Screws.
20 Introduction

Pedestal Installation
With the Pedestal Installation, the Pedestal must be fastened to the floor to prevent it
from being moved or knocked over. The floor construction determines the type of
anchors to use. The anchors are not shipped with the kiosk and must be obtained
locally.
The basic Pedestal includes one shelf mounted on the front, but the following options
are available:
• An optional bag rack that also mounts to the front
• An optional shelf (narrow or wide) that may be fastened to each side of the Pedestal.
Note: The Pedestal is shipped with no shelves or bag rack installed.
To install the Pedestal Mount kiosk, follow these steps:
1. Position the Pedestal at the installation location.
Note: Verify that this position permits access to the AC Power Receptacle and the
LAN Cable. Also, make sure that there is necessary access and service clearance. For
more information, refer to the NCR SelfServ™ 90 (7709) Site Preparation Guide.
2. Remove the Pedestal Base Cover by removing the two mounting screws on each side.
Introduction 21

3. There are four anchor holes on the Pedestal Base. Mark these holes on the floor, and
then remove the Pedestal.

4. Drill four holes on the floor as needed for the anchors.

5. Position the Pedestal back at the installed location and install the four anchors.
Note: Make sure that the anchors do not extend up above the top of the Pedestal
Base more than 12.7 mm (0.5 in.).
6. Re-install the Pedestal Base Cover and secure it with two mounting screws on each
side.
22 Introduction

7. Install the Front Shelf on the front of the Pedestal.

a. Position the Front Shelf on the front of the Pedestal at the installed location, just
