BENEFITS OF USING VIDEO IN ENGLISH SPEAKING CLASS

Using video as part of the lesson in the class has been practically used ever
since before the pandemic era. Many of students and also teachers believe
that video give as much benefit for them. In accordance to the study and
research over three article, numerous advantages has been found. According
to one of the article, using video in English speaking class can give the students
a chance to develop imitative, interactive and responsive speech offerings by
drawing inspiration for speaking from the actual surroundings of speakers.

A biggest advantages is that video can motivate students to studies with an


authentic context. A well known adage that “a picture is worth than a
thousand words” is proven true by a video presentation that display an
interesting, challenging, and stimulating video because it can show a context
that contains the subject and make meaning clearer by illustrating
relationships in a way that is not possible with words. Its also prove that the
video provides authentic language input which make the students and even
the teachers find and learn a new words that they never found before.

Any learner can readily be drawn in by video-based learning. It is much


simpler to get to the point much faster when speech, text, and visuals are used
together. This allows for more interaction and content in a shorter amount of
time. One of the many benefits of using video in English speaking class are it
can provide context to help understanding. It aids in general comprehension of
actual content, which is essential to pupils' linguistic growth. Students can
learn English in many forms through short English films and tutorials. Based on
Riswandi (2016), Youtube can help students to improve their speaking skill
especially in increasing their knowledge about vocabulary, grammar and
pronunciation in English through the videos. It shows that accuracy, fluency,
and performance were a few areas where students' speaking abilities were
enhanced. This is because the YouTube tutorial video helped them expand
their vocabulary and demonstrate a good speaking model. Besides, the fluency
aspect was improved because the video provided the students with
pronunciation as well as more vocabulary that could be learned at the same
time, making them more confident in presenting their procedure text. The
performance component has also increased, which is beneficial to students
learning how to perform in public. When presenting something, students were
able to learn about eye contact and body gesture.

Next, using videos in English speaking class can introduce cultures and new
ideas to students. It is an excellent way to integrate new content and language
learning at the same time, allowing students to learn about a wide range of
subjects and ideas. As stated by the researches, Meinawati, Harmoko, Rahmah,
& Dewi (2020), students were found to be able to speak expressively and
confidently. They were able to imitate the native speakers' pronunciation that
they heard in the video.

We might therefore say that using a video in an English speaking class bring
numerous benefit not for the students but as well as for the teachers. The
using of an video can help the students with make the difficulties method in an
easier way. A boring and sleepy lesson method also can be change into the
enjoyable and exciting method of the lesson.
