Planets (Grade 1)
I. Objectives
Content Standards:
1. Identify the planets in our solar system.
2. Describe the characteristics of each planet.
3. Compare and contrast the different sizes and colors of the planets.

Performance Standards:
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
1. Name the planets found in our solar system.
2. Describe at least two characteristics of each planet.
3. Compare and contrast the planets based on size and color.

Learning Competencies/Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
1. Identify the planets in our solar system by name.
2. Describe at least two characteristics of each planet.
3. Compare and contrast the planets based on size and color.

PRESENTING THE NEW LESSON: system and the different objects found in it such as

Have the students complete a worksheet where they


will match the planets with their corresponding
pictures and write at least two characteristics for each
planet.

I. EVALUATION:
1. Have the class create a mobile of the planets using
different materials such as paper, styrofoam balls, and
string.
2. Play a game of “Planet Bingo” where the students
have to correctly identify each planet based on a
given description.
J. ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES: 3. Watch a short educational video about the planets
and have a class discussion afterwards.

Take note of the students who need additional


assistance in understanding the concept of planets.
Also, reflect on their reactions and level of
engagement during the activities. Use this
information to guide future lessons about the solar
system and space.
