1. Ad Hominem Sara is divorced, so whatever relationship advice she gives you can’t be good.
2. Ad Hominem Professor Michaelson has argued in favor of academic tenure. But why should
we even listen to Professor Michaelson? As a tenured professor, of course he
supports tenure.
3. Appeal to Four out of five dentists recommend brushing with pure cane sugar.

4. Hasty The only redheads I know are rude.
Generalization Therefore, all redheads must have bad manners.
5. Either - Or Either go to college or forget about making money.
6. Slippery Slope If we allow gay marriage, the next thing we know, people will want to marry
their dogs, or their cats, or what about their pigs?
7. Red herring Environmentalists are continually harping about the dangers of nuclear power.
Unfortunately, electricity is dangerous no matter where it comes from. Every
year hundreds of people are electrocuted by accident. Since most of the
accidents are caused by carelessness, they could be avoided if people would just
exercise greater caution.
8. Straw person Mr. Goldberg has argued against prayer in public schools. Obviously Mr.
Goldberg advocates atheism. But atheism is what they used to have in Russia.
Atheism leads to the suppression of all religions and the replacement of God by
an omnipotent state. Is that what we want for this country? I hardly think so.
Clearly Mr. Goldberg’s argument is nonsense.
9. Begging for Reading traditional textbook is superior to reading E-texts in learning
Question effectiveness because it is highly advantageous for learning to have materials
made available in a text format.
10. Appeal to “I’d better eat my Wheaties. Michael Jordan says that it’s the breakfast of
