ALE RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT. LF TO UHF ANTENNA SYSTEMS BROADCAST ANTENNAS. MASTS & SUPPORT STRUCTURES, INSTALLATION SERVICES CONSULTANCY Issue 3/1980 Racal Antennas Limited RIA/C/A'L INTRODUCTION Antennas form a vital part of all radio ‘communications links and the selection of the right antenna is as important as the choice of all other equipments in the link. ‘The many years of experience gained by Racal in radio communication system engineering and their detailed involvement with widely varied operational requirements has resulted in Racal Antennas Limited being able to offer a comprehensive selection of antennas, masts and ancillaries, all of which are carefully chosen both for engineering excellence and optimum RF characteristics. To achieve this aim, Antenna test and measurements substantial factory, research and development facilities exist near Southampton, Hampshire and highly advanced computerized analysis equipment is established at Tewkesbury in Gloucestershire. Particular attention has been given to tactical antennas for mobile use together with support masts designed for extremely rapid erection. A wide range of antennas and ancillary equipment is available for various frequency ranges, including low power adjustable HF tactical dipole kits, broadband HF systems, low profile HF, VHF and UHF devices and a wide selection of special purpose antennas, PRODUCT INDEX Brief details of the range of antennas, masts, towers and accessories available from Racal Antennas Ltd are included in this catalogue. Where more detailed information is required, individual product data sheets should be requested. The related publication reference numbers are provided in this index. Transportable antennas and those available in a transportable version are suitably identified in the text, and by a "Tin the index. Shipping dimensions indicated in the text assume bolted aluminium masts except in the case of certain neavy duty antennas which assume bolted stee! masts. Specifications assume average ground. throughout and SSB transmission. 71 BO TE PRODUCT DETAILS PUB.No, PAGE PRODUCT. The system comprises:— RA 904 — Adjustable, calibrated, dipole @t0.30 Mea) A905 — Wideband terminated dipole 2 10 30MH2) FRA 906 — Wideband terminated sloping Veo (10.30 MHz) The RA 904 is a lightweight centre-ted dipole, adjustable in length and calibrated with markers at frequency intervals. tis designed to be supported centrally at a height of 6to 9 metres above ground, by @ mast oF tree, withthe dipole elements The 638 telescopic mast extends to 82 metres and nas a collapsed length of 1.47 metres, The mast is made from 7 tubular Steel sections and is avaliable with a wide range of accessories, for use either as a vertical monopole antenna, @ support for ods or as a support for other antennas. The ‘mast can also be mounted on a vehicle. Each Section is raised by hand and locked by a knurled ring which positively locks the inner {tube while giving a low electrical resistance, Steel sections are copper plated anc stove enamelled olive drab. The mast can be ‘mounted on almost any terrain by one man Using the two level fixing terylene guys Supplied Over 16,000 hese mast aren TRANS- PORTABLE discone with an adaptor, or for vertical or ‘loping wire or inverted 'V" antennas using the endless nalyard supplied in the kit. The kit weighs 9. ka, ‘The MA 675 consists of elght 45mm diameter sections making up to.a9 metre mast having 2 levels of 4 guys with seit disposed at an angie of 10° to 20" to the ‘around in an inverted Vee contiguration, ‘ving omnigiractional coverage, Pickets, tensioning cords, throwing cords with weights and 15 metres of UR7S coaxial cable ‘are all inoluded in the kit The elements can be digposed as a normal horizontal spar ‘mode dipole with a support at each end and, It required, a dipole element can be used as ‘a simple long wire antenna. The calibration markers are accurate to within 10% in this. The RA 905 is an omnidirectional wideband {terminated dipole suitable for any trequency from 2 to 30 MHe without adjustment This, again, is designed for a central support mast between 6 and 9 metres in height, The RA 906 isa terminated Sloping Vee antenna designed to give a directional Fadiation pattern for medium to long range point-to-point circuits, Design frequency Fange is 810.90 MH2 but it may be used below 8 MH2 where reduced gain and Gegraded VSWR is acceptable. Below 4 MHz the transmitter output power must be limited 40.300 watts, ‘This Mast was developed from our Mark | pattern to meet specific requirements for a lightweight portable Mast with the following features To operate as a direct Radiator of 2711 (8.2m) effective height withthe ability to accept Antennae Rods “F” to increase the height 10 434.
