Heroic and Magic Items

There are many magical items throughout westeros. Most of them, from the old ruined Valyria. Other
origin from the Children of the Forest or any type of magic folk. Heroic items on the other hand, aquire
certain characteristics during its existence, becoming more relevant than mundane.

Valyrian Steel

Valyrian steel was invented in Valyria and was used to make weapons and various other items of
unparalleled quality. Being spell-forged steel, it is the spells and magic that make the steel special.

Valyrian steel was manufactured in the Valyrian Freehold with dragonfire before the freehold fell. Valyrian
steel blades are lighter, stronger, and sharper than even the best castle-forged steel, and feature
distinctive rippled patterns similar to Damascus steel, the mark of steel that has been folded back on itself
many thousands of times. Most Valyrian steel blades in Westeros are treasured heirlooms of noble
houses, each with its own name and storied history. Valyrian steel keeps its edge forever. Valyrian steel
was always costly, but it became considerably more so when there was no more Valyria, the secret of its
making lost with the Doom.
Only the greatest weaponsmiths can reforge swords from existing Valyrian steel, making those remaining
weapons highly treasured and extremely rare. The blacksmiths of Qohor claim to know how to reforge
Valyrian steel.

Dark Sister, an ancestral blade of House Targaryen, was wielded by Prince Daemon Targaryen against
Prince Aemond Targaryen during the Dance over Harrenhal. Blackfyre, the other Targaryen blade, was
given by King Aegon IV Targaryen to his bastard son, Daemon; this act later inspired the Blackfyre
Pretenders.

Properties: All Valyrian steel blades gain +2 on all attack and all damage rolls, they will never break, and
there’s a slightly change to break an ordinary steel weapon on a tie (1 in 10).

Blades known to still exist:

 Heartsbane, the ancestral two-handed greatsword of House Tarly, currently in the possession of Lord Randyll
Tarly.
 Lady Forlorn, the ancestral sword of House Corbray, currently in the possession of Ser Lyn Corbray.
 Longclaw, the ancestral Valyrian steel bastard sword of House Mormont. Currently in the possession of Jon
Snow.
 Nightfall, the ancestral blade of House Harlaw and currently wielded by Ser Harras Harlaw.
 Oathkeeper, one of two Valyrian blades reforged by Tobho Mott from Ice. The blade was made for Ser Jaime
Lannister, but he has given it to Brienne of Tarth for use in her quest to locate Sansa Stark. The blade was given
its name, Oathkeeper, at that time.
 Red Rain, the sword of House Drumm, which was stolen by them in a raid. Given the name and coloring,
possibly the ancestral sword of House Reyne.
 Widow's Wail, one of two Valyrian blades reforged by Tobho Mott from Ice. Following Joffrey Baratheon's death,
ownership of Widow's Wail has presumably passed to his younger brother, Tommen.
 The dagger with dragonbone hilt wielded by Bran Stark's failed assassin, and currently in the possession of Petyr
Baelish.
 Valyrian steel arakh owned by Caggo.
 Valyrian steel axe reputedly possessed by House Celtigar.

Blades with known fates:

 Ice, the ancestral two-handed greatsword of House Stark. Following Eddard Stark's execution in King's Landing,
it was melted down and reforged into two longswords (Widow's Wail and Oathkeeper).

Blades with unknown fates:

 Blackfyre, the sword of Aegon I Targaryen. Carried by all Targaryen kings until Aegon IV, who gave it to his
bastard Daemon Blackfyre, who rose in rebellion against the Targaryens, taking the sword's name for his house.
Its whereabouts are currently unknown.
 Brightroar, the ancestral sword of House Lannister, lost when King Tommen II Lannister of the Rock sailed to
Valyria and never returned.
 Dark Sister, the sword wielded by Visenya Targaryen. Its last known owner was Bryden "Bloodraven" Rivers.
 Orphan-Maker, the ancestral sword of House Roxton. Its last known owner was Ser Jon Roxton.
 Vigilance, the ancestral sword of House Hightower. Its last known owner was Lord Ormund Hightower
Dragon Horn

A dragon horn is a sorcerous horn that is used to control dragons.

Dragon horns originate from Old Valyria, prior to the Doom. The dragonlords of old sounded such horns,
before the Doom devoured them. It is not known if one horn can control more that one dragon, or how
many dragons one horn can control. Euron Greyjoy is confident he can control more than one dragon
with Dragonbinder but he has yet to be proven correct.

It has not been mentioned how exactly the Targaryens controlled their dragons. The dragon skulls still
remain in the Red Keep but no mention of dragon horns in Westeros has been made.

Horns known to exist:

Dragonbinder is a large Dragon Horn with Valyrian glyphs written upon it. Euron Greyjoy claimed to have
found amongst the smoking ruins that were Valyria. Victarion Greyjoy calls it the "hell-horn" The Horn is 6
feet (1,83 meters) long. It is made from the horn of what must have been an enormous dragon. It has a
black gleam, and is banded with red gold and Valyrian steel. When touched the Horn feels warm and
smooth. Its surface is shiny and reflective, though the reflection depicted is somehow twisted. The bands
of the Horn are covered by strange writings, which Moqorro identifies as Valyrian glyphs. When the Horn
sounds, the glyphs glow red-hot and then white-hot.

Dragonbone
Dragonbone is the material that is created from the bones of dragons. It is used to make many items of
value. This is because of its rarity and its special properties. Dragonbone is black. This is due to its high
iron content. It is as strong as other metals, such as steel, yet lighter and more flexible. Dragonbone bows
are highly sought after as they can fire arrows over a much farther range than normal wooden bows.

Properties: Bows made of dragonbone have an increase of 20/40/60 on its reach, plus it offers +2 on the
archer’s skill.

Dragonglass (Obsidian)
Dragonglass is volcanic glass, or obsidian. Children of the forest make weapons out of dragonglass,
including daggers, blades and arrowheads. During the Age of Heroes it was also recorded by the Night's
Watch that the children of the forest gave the black brothers a hundred obsidian daggers every year.
Dragonglass weapons are one of the few weaknesses of the Others. An Other that is pierced by an
obsidian blade dies almost instantaneously. Obsidian blades are sharper than steel but far more brittle.
The Valyrians called obsidian frozen fire and made use of obsidian to make their glass candles.

The smallfolk like to say that dragonglass is made by dragons while Maesters say it comes from the fires
of the earth. There are large deposits of dragonglass on Dragonstone and it is an important export
from Asshai. Mors Umber wears a chunk of dragonglass in place of a lost eye.
Far-eye
A far-eye is a telescope. It consists of a bronze tube with ground glass lenses at either end. The best far-
eyes come from Myr and are referred to as Myrish eyes.
Maesters Luwin and Aemon both used far-eyes to observe the stars. Aemon's was mounted on a heavy
tripod. When Victarion Greyjoy captured the Myrish cog Dove, he took its captain's Myrish eye, which
was constructed out of a series of interconnected brass tubes so as to be collapsible
Properties: A far-eye enhances the reach of sight, providing +5 on awareness check at distance.

Harpy’s Fingers
The harpy’s fingers is the name of a whip used to scourge slaves in Astapor. The handle is made of black
dragonbone elaborately carved and inlaid with gold. Nine long leather lashes trail from it, each tipped by a
gilded claw. The gold pommel is a woman’s head with pointed ivory teeth. The whip is given to new
masters of Unsullied as a mark of payment.

Properties: As all whips they are Clumsy and can be used for grapple, but it is necessary a Cruel vs.
Cowardly check. It also gives +1d6 on all damage rolls with it.

Dothraki Bells
Tiny bells that ring are worn in the hair of victorious Dothraki warriors. Each bell signifies a victory that the
man has won. The more victories the more bells in a warrior’s braid. The bells are can be made of gold
and silver and bronze. Dothraki women do not wear bells in their hair however Khaleesi Daenerys
Targaryen is known to wear bells in her hair for the victories she has won. Even if a khalasar is not
glimpsed the sound of the warrior’s bells tells their foes that the Dothraki are near.

A Dothraki gains one bell every 1000 glory points.

Weirwood Weapons
The wood of the weirwood is an excellent, though expensive, building material because it does not rot.
Weirwood can be used for making bows, spears, and arrows; Ygritte and Brynden Rivers both have horn
and weirwood bows, and the children of the forest are said to have used weirwood bows. Styr has a long
bronze and weirwood spear.

Properties: Weirwood bows, spears or arrows grant +1 on attack rolls.

Heroic weapons
These items are not generated by magic, but by valor or luck, gain certain properties. They are treated as
a normal weapon, but during certain situations, they can grant the wielder some benefits. Normally, a trait
or passion check is required to activate the weapon.

Heroic Andal Swords

These blades were created during the Andal Invasion. They are made of a hard steel and are ornamented
with numerous types of Jewels. They are extremely valuable and rare.

Properties: A successful check on a trait such as Proud, Pious, Vengeful is necessary to activate the
benefits. Normally, it grants the user with +3 on attacks with it, although other traits and other bonuses
can be found.

These weapons at some point received the blessing of a powerful magic user, a holy person or even a
magical creature. These item can offer different advantages, normally attack, trait or passion bonuses.

is created by the Astapori and given to the Unsullied at every meal from the day they are cut. It is a
numbing agent that makes the taker feel less and less with every consumption.
