Whenever we receive any help from any person we should be grateful to him. If we do not express our
gratitude, people may not wish to help us a second time. A kindly opportunity to return that kind deed
doesn‘t forget to do so ungrudgingly. It costs so little to be grateful. We should never forget to say the
simple word thank you. Whatever be the help, we should be thankful to our parents or teacher and our
friends for doing so much for us. Think of life without your parents care and help! Think of the
guidance your teachers give you! It is very important to be grateful to them.

17. Solve the following pair of linear equations:
y  4x  1
6x  5 y  9

y  4x  1 ...........(1)
6 x  5 y  9 ...........(2)

Or
For what value of k, the pair of equations 4x – 3y = 9, 2x + ky = 11 has no solution?
Solution:
We have, 4x – 3y = 9 and 2x + ky = 11

18. Which term of the progression 4, 9, 14, 19, … is 109?

Solution:
Here, d = 9 -4 = 14 -9 = 19 – 14 = 5
∴ Difference between consecutive terms is constant.
Hence it is an A.P.
Given: First term, a = 4, d = 5, an = 109
∴ an = a + (n – 1) d … [General term of A.P.]
∴ 109 = 4 + (n – 1) 5
⇒ 109 – 4 = (n – 1) 5

J¸ï.J¸ï.J¯ï.¹. ªÀiÁzÀj ¥À±

æ Éß ¥ÀwæPÉUÀ¼ÀÄ 2023-24 Page 114
⇒ 105 = 5(n − 1) ⇒ n – 1 = 105/5 = 21
⇒ n = 21 + 1 = 22 ∴ 109 is the 22nd term

19. Find the middle term of the A.P. 6, 13, 20, …, 216.
Solution:
The given A.P. is 6, 13, 20, …, 216
Let n be the number of terms, d = 7, a = 6, an = 216
an = a + (n – 1)d
∴ 216 = 6 + (n – 1).7
216 – 6 = (n – 1)7
210 ÷ 7 = n – 1 ⇒ 30 + 1 = n
⇒ n = 31
Middle term = (n+12)th term
= (31+12)=(322) = 16th term of the A.P.
∴ a16 = a + 15d = 6 + 15 × 7 = 111
OR
Find whether -150 is a term of the A.P. 17, 12, 7, 2, … ?
Solution:
Given: 1st term, a = 17
Common difference, d = 12 – 17 = -5
nth term, an = – 150 (Let)
∴ a + (n – 1) d = – 150
17 + (n – 1)(-5) = – 150
(n – 1) (-5) = – 150 – 17 = – 167
(n − 1) = −167 ÷ −5
n = 167 ÷ 5 + 1 = (167+5) ÷ 5 =172 ÷ 5
n = 172 ÷ 5 …[Being not a natural number
∴ -150 is not a term of given A.P.

25. Prove that the tangents drawn from an external point to a circle are equal.
Answer:
Given: A circle with centre O; PA and PB are two tangents to the circle drawn from an external point
P.
To prove: PA = PB
Construction: Join OA, OB, and OP.
It is known that a tangent at any point of a circle is perpendicular to the radius through the point of
contact.
OA  PA and OB  PB ... (1)
In  OPA and  OPB:

J¸ï.J¸ï.J¯ï.¹. ªÀiÁzÀj ¥À±

æ Éß ¥ÀwæPÉUÀ¼ÀÄ 2023-24 Page 116
OAP = OBP (Using (1))
OA = OB (Radii of the same circle)
OP = OP (Common side)
Therefore, OAP  OPB (RHS congruency criterion)
PA = PB
(Corresponding parts of congruent triangles are equal)
Thus, it is proved that the lengths of the two tangents drawn from an external point to a circle are
equal.

27. Evaluate the following: sin 60° cos 30° + sin 30° cos 60°
Solution:
sin 60° cos 30° + sin 30° cos 60°
First, find the values of the given trigonometric ratios
sin 30° = 1/2
cos 30° = √3/2
sin 60° = √3/2
cos 60°= 1/2
Now, substitute the values in the given problem
sin 60° cos 30° + sin 30° cos 60°
= √3/2 ×√3/2 + (1/2) ×(1/2 )
= 3/4+1/4
= 4/4

OR

2 tan2 45° + cos2 30° – sin2 60

Ans2 tan2 45° + cos2 30° – sin2 60
We know that, the values of the trigonometric ratios are:
sin 60° = √3/2
cos 30° = √3/2
tan 45° = 1
Substitute the values in the given problem
2 tan2 45° + cos2 30° – sin2 60

29.A vessel is in the form of a hollow hemisphere mounted by a hollow cylinder. The diameter of
the hemisphere is 14 cm and the total height of the vessel is 13 cm. Find the inner surface area of
the vessel.
Answer:
The diagram is as follows:
Now, the given parameters are:
The diameter of the hemisphere = D = 14 cm
The radius of the hemisphere = r = 7 cm
Also, the height of the cylinder = h = (13-7) = 6 cm
And, the radius of the hollow hemisphere = 7 cm
Now, the inner surface area of the vessel = CSA of the cylindrical part + CSA of hemispherical part
(2πrh+2πr2) cm2 = 2πr(h+r) cm2

an = a+(n−1)d
Therefore,
20.75 = 5+(n -1)×1.75
15.75 = (n -1)×1.75
(n -1) = 15.75/1.75 = 1575/175= 63/7 = 9
n -1 = 9
n = 10
Hence, n is 10.

Given: ABC is a triangle in which ∠ABC=90∘
Construction: Draw BD⊥AC.
Proof:
In △ADB and △ABC
∠A=∠A [Common angle]
∠ADB=∠ABC [Each 90∘]
△ADB∼△ABC [A−A Criteria]
So, ∆BAD  ∆CAB
Now, AB2=AD×AC ..........(1)
Similarly,
BC2=CD×AC ..........(2)
Adding equations (1) and (2) we get,

AB2+BC2=AD×AC+CD×AC
