LAW - 195 LLM BTC Induction Timetable FV
Welcome to the LLM Barristers Training Course at Nottingham Law School; we hope you enjoy your
time on the course. This section sets out some important information and also requests some
information from you.
Important - please check your induction timetable and any communications from the
course team on a regular basis as, given the prevailing exceptional circumstances,
changes may be required at short notice. Please contact [email protected] if you have
any concerns or queries.
Please note that there may still be changes to this timetable; therefore please check your
individual timetable on NOW for the most up to date version, together with any relevant
Teams meeting requests.
Induction day
Induction day is Wednesday 16 September 2020. The course begins on that day and activities will
be scheduled from Induction day onwards. Please follow the instructions below.
The Bar Qualification Rules generally require students to have completed the academic component
(i.e. obtained a law degree or completed the GDL/CPE) before commencing the vocational stage of
training.
Subject to the point, below, concerning Tier 4 students, the Bar Standards Board (BSB) has
introduced an application for early commencement of the vocational stage for those students
affected by the COVID-19 lockdown. Where you have results outstanding in no more than 2
subjects and will know your final results by 1 December you may apply to the BSB Authorisations
Team for permission to commence the vocational stage. There are no fees payable for the
application.
You should note that:
• The fact that you are awaiting final results is not a reason for delaying commencing the
course;
• By commencing the course you acknowledge that you will be asked to leave the course if you
have not completed the academic stage by 1 December. In such circumstances any fee refund
will be calculated in accordance with the University’s Fee Payment Conditions; however,
neither the University nor the Law School will be liable for any costs or losses which may have
been incurred in respect of, but not limited to, such things as visa applications, English
language test requirements, travel, accommodation and subsistence;
• If you are a Tier 4 student it is important that you note the following: the timing of
examinations and the dates of LLB and GDL Exam Boards may mean that there is insufficient
time for you to obtain a visa in order to commence the course in September 2020. If you find
yourself in this position you must inform us immediately.

Since the BSB requires Providers to check that students have passed the requisite
foundation subjects, please ensure that you have uploaded your transcripts of results to
the Admissions Portal.
❖ Law degree students - this will include transcripts for all years of your degree. Usually 3 in
total.
❖ CPE or GDL students – your final transcript issued at the end of the course.
Please also ensure that you have uploaded your BCAT pass printout and evidence that you
have joined an Inn of Court (either a copy acceptance letter or membership card).
Finally, please note that you will be required to complete Microsoft Forms relating to your
English Language Declaration and Release of Personal Data. These will be sent to you by
email closer to the start of the course (W/C 1st Sept) and made available on the Course
NOW page.
Online Enrolment
Online enrolment is now ‘live.’ Please make every effort to complete your online enrolment before
Friday 28 August 2020 and, in any event, before the course commences on 16 September. You

University's responsibilities as your sponsor are available on our visa and immigration pages.
All students will need access to a laptop / computer with a working webcam and microphone in order
to listen and participate in the online teaching.
NOW is NTU’s Online learning portal and you will need to be able to access this from day
one of the BTC. Guidance on how to access and use NOW will covered in the IT session
with Amanda Rushby on Thursday afternoon – see timetable below. Once you have
enrolled online you should be able to access NOW via the following link:

On the timetable below you will see that some sessions are synchronous (i.e. live) and you
will need to join these following the links at the appropriate time in the timetable. For this
to work you need to use Microsoft Teams which is part of the Office 365 Package. The
