LESSON # 39 BARTENDING

Basic Concepts
 Bartending is an ancient practice that can be traced to the Greek and Roman eras.
 Drinking houses called pubs serve as a place for people to socialize.
 A bartender is someone who formulates and serves alcoholic or soft drink beverages behind a
licensed establishment or similar establishment or private function such as weddings, parties etc.
 Bartenders are also the ones who maintains the supplies and inventory for the bar.
 Now a days, the popularity of bars is attributed to the need of the people to gather in various public
and private establishments to drink, meet friends, relax and entertain.
 Present-day bartending jobs include preparing drinks, customer service, management, security and
psychiatry.
 Bartending is the art of mixing wines and spirits, drinks, preparation, beverage, service and good
customer relation.

Relevance of the Course


 You will learn the proper way to open, close and maintain your bar, building on bartending and practical
cocktail skills. It will provide you with all the knowledge, skills and techniques that you need to become a
competent professional cocktail bartender and feel confident behind an actual bar.
 The certificate you receive tells prospective employers that you've put in the time and effort to educate
yourself about your chosen profession, and that you're armed with the knowledge to get going in the role.
Some workplaces don't hire staff who haven't been to bartending school.
 This course provides the trainees with the basic knowledge in preparation of hot and cold beverages within
current acceptable industry standards bar set up, equipment maintenance, hygiene and sanitation
 Ultimately, whether bartending is a good job for you depends on your personality, interests, and goals. If you
enjoy socializing, have a passion for mixology, and thrive in dynamic environments, bartending can be a
fulfilling career. Additionally, the potential for flexible hours and financial rewards can be appealing.

 Bartenders may be employed in restaurants, bars, hotels, vacation resorts, social clubs, food service
establishments, and anywhere alcohol is served to the public. Additionally, they can find work serving
alcoholic drinks at private parties and residences

 It covers four core competencies namely: 1) cleaning bar areas, 2) operating bar, 3) preparing and mixing
cocktails and non-alcoholic concoctions, and 4) providing basic wine services.
 "We focus on the fundamentals of training. Everything from why you shake, when you muddle, to the
practicalities of the job, and what we call the five 'P's of world class service: pride, passion, preparation,
professionalism and presentation.
