2. Are these competencies limited only to professional competencies?

No, these competencies are not limited to only professional competencies because there are
other personal traits and characteristics that teachers need to possess. Since teachers do not only
handle and socialize with children or students but also with other people, it is important for them to
develop other traits besides the professional competencies.

3. For a teacher to be great, is it enough to possess the professional competencies to plan a lesson, execute
a lesson plan, manage a class, assess learning, compute and report grades? Explain your answer.

No, because these are not only the tasks or responsibilities of a teacher. Teachers have more
than lesson planning and managing a class so it is significant for them to develop qualities that can
make them better teachers and human beings.

4. For a teacher to be great, which is more important - personal qualities or professional competencies?

Personal qualities and professional competencies are equivalently important because being a
professional teacher is not all about academic tasks. Their duties also include connecting with people
- the parents, the school authorities and staff, colleagues, and the community.

I believe that I still need to improve on some things such as having/exhibiting knowledge across
disciplines and persevering in challenging situations.

Which professional competencies am I strongly capable of demonstrating?

abiding by the code of ethics for the profession, building a support network with parents and
community, demonstrating knowledge understanding of the characteristics and needs of diverse

learning, and practicing human goodness in life and in work.

In which competencies do I need to develop more?

The competencies I need to develop more are mastering the subject matter to be taught and
updating oneself on educational trends, policies and curricula because I believe that these
competencies need in-depth study/learning which I still need to do and learn.

Write Action Research Prompts

1. OBSERVE In assisting my Resource Teacher, I observed that personal traits such as patience and
strong communication and professional competencies like using effective teaching methods and tools to
facilitate student learning were least / not displayed and as a result, students were/class was mostly
unattentive of what was being discussed.

2. REFLECT The lack of these personal traits and professional competencies may be caused by the
students being distracted and their misbehaviors and the lack of knowledge/understanding of other
varying teaching methods and strategies.
3. PLAN I would like to address this problem by conducting an action research on Classroom Strategies in
Handling and Facilitating

4. ACT
a) The main objective of my action research is to identify strategies that can help teachers in
effectively handling and managing a classroom.
b) My specific research questions are:
● How can teachers identify classroom problems/issues that hinder learning?
● What specific strategies can be done to effectively handle and manage a classroom?
c) To answer my specific research questions, I should be able to identify what the common
problems happen in the classroom and their causes through observation or surveys. I should
also be able to identify effective strategies that can be done to effectively handle and manage a
classroom and avoid chaos through interviews and research.
