1.1 You have 3 hours to attempt this examination.
1.2 There are 24 problems in this test, each having as its answer a natural number
from 00 to 99. Problems 1-10 are each worth 2 marks, 11-22 worth 5 marks
and 23-24 worth 10 marks.
1.3 Please attempt the examination honestly.

2 Problems
1. x, y are whole numbers. Given that x + y = m and xy = n and 1 ≤ m, n ≤ 100, what is the sum of all m
such that x4 + y 4 − 2x2 y 2 has 3 divisors? (Including 1 and itself)
2. AB is a diameter of a circle, and C, D are points on the circle (same side of AB) such that ∠CAB =
 2
◦ ◦ ∆AID
30 , ∠DAB = 45 . AC, BD intersect at I. What is the value of ?
∆BIC
3. Haris, Harris and Harish each have some paise. The number of paise Harris has is the square of that Haris
has. Harish has double the number of paise that Harris has. Together they find out that they have n
rupees where n ∈ N. What is the minimum value of n?
4. Consider the set S = {−5, −4, −3, −2, −1, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4} . We partition this set into 5 pairs, and the product
of the two numbers in each pair is computed. The probability that at least half of the products are negative
can be written as m
n , where m and n are relatively prime positive integers. Find m + n.

5. In a square ABCD of side length 12, E is the midpoint of AB, F the midpoint of AD. DE and BF
intersect at T . What is the area of the quadrilateral T BCD?
6. Find the sum of all natural numbers n such that 2n − 1 divides n2 + 13.

7. How many ways can Scott say the four words ”Steve”, ”Captain”, ”America”, ”Rogers” (once each) such
that he never says ”Captain America” or ”Steve Rogers”?
8. Find a + b + c if a, b, c are digits and (abc)3 = (3(a + b + c))5 .
9. For how many positive integers k < 50 can we find a value of n such that n! ends in exactly k zeroes?

10. The points (1, 2, 3) and (3, 3, 2) are vertices of a cube. Compute the last two digits of the product of all
possible distinct volumes of the cube.

11. Real numbers x, y, z are such that x + ⌊y⌋ + {z} = 4.2, y + ⌊z⌋ + {x} = 3.6, z + ⌊x⌋ + {y} = 2.0. What is
the integer closest to 10x?
12. Consider all positive integers a, b such that lcm(a2 − 1, b2 − 1) = 292 − 1. Find the last two digits of the
sum of all distinct values of a + b.
13. Mark has six boxes lined up in a straight line. Inside each of the first three boxes are a red ball, a blue
ball, and a green ball. He randomly selects a ball from each of the three boxes and puts them into a fourth
box. Then, he randomly selects a ball from each of the four boxes and puts them into a fifth box. Next,
he randomly selects a ball from each of the five boxes and puts them into a sixth box, arriving at three
boxes with 1, 3, and 5 balls, respectively. The probability that the box with 3 balls has each type of color
is m
n , where m and n are relatively prime positive integers. Find m + n.

14. Let p(x) and q(x) be two distinct polynomials with integer coefficients, of degree less or equal to 6, that
satisfy p(k) = q(k) and p(−k) = −q(−k) for all integers 1 ≤ k ≤ 6. What is the number of multiples of 6
which are also divisors of the minimum value of p(0)2 + q(0)2 ?
15. A math class consists of five pairs of best friends who need to form five groups of two for an upcoming
project. However, to promote synergy in the classroom, the teacher forbids any student to work with his
best friend. In how many ways can the students pair up? Write the last two digits as your answer.
16. Consider all positive integers k for which there exists a positive integer n such that

n3 + n2
n4 + + n + 1 = k2 .
2
Find the greatest of all such k. Write the last 2 digits.
17. In a square ABCD of side length 1, two circular arcs are drawn, each with radius 1 and centres A, B
respectively. 4 circles are drawn, each tangent to both of these arcs as well as one of the sides of the
square, inside the square. Find the integer closest to 10 times the area of the quadrilateral obtained by
joining their centres.

18. Suppose that x and y are real numbers such that

log3 (x + y 4 ) = log3 (x − y) + log3 (x + y), and

10 = log3 (x − 2y) + log3 (x + 2y).

Find the last two digits of x.

19. How many ways are there to shade a total of 8 unit squares in a 4 × 4 grid such that there are exactly 2
shaded squares in each row and each column?
20. S is the set of all numbers all of whose digits are 1. There are fixed integers p, q, r (p > 0) such that if X
is any element of S, then pX 2 + qX + r ∈ S. Find the sum of the two smallest values of q.

21. How many ways can a King move from the southwest corner to the northeast corner of a 4 × 4 chessboard?
To avoid repetition, in this situation, in each step the King can only go one step North, or one step East,
or one step diagonally Northeast. Write the last 2 digits of your answer.
22. Compute the integer closest to the greatest real number K for which the graphs of
