Dr. Marouane Khallouk provided an insightful lecture on innovation and change. He discussed those
recognizing opportunities for change and being a part of the innovation process is not limited to
certain people. He emphasized that self-awareness and identifying the daily problems in our own
lives are key to finding innovation opportunities. He stressed the importance of being aware of your
surroundings and identifying problems that one can face daily in their common life. Lastly, he

products, and practices to facilitate people’s lives.

Upon reflection, I realized how innovation is not all about creativity but analytical thinking and taking
small steps toward achieving the ultimate goal. That failure is a part of the journey and it is crucial to
learn from it and avoid repeating the same mistakes. I also learned from this event that innovation
opportunities can come in from various sources including trends, modernization, companies, current
market opportunities, and whatnot but he had encouraged individuals to identify a painful problem
or an unsatisfied need and to develop solutions to solve it. Innovations need not be big but small
innovations that can change our daily lives. Dr. Khallouk encouraged that if one follows passion, skills
strengths, and weaknesses can make changes to make innovations to start them on a small scale and
test the ideas as soon as possible to know whether they will succeed or fail as failure is a part of
success. He also taught the concepts of opposite thinking wherein one takes assumptions and
describes the opposite to find a solution that offers improvements. For example, leveraging new
knowledge and linking it to AI to develop innovative solutions. Innovation need not only be for
economic growth but for society as a whole. He encourages us to think outside the box to leverage
our unique knowledge and skills and to challenge ourselves to be a part of the innovation process.
According to Van de Ven et the innovation journey is differentiated into three main stages that is 1)
initiation, 2) development, 3) implementation also mentioned by Dr. Khallouk. He had also
mentioned about how to focus on one initial stage and failure to be a part of this which reminded
that March, 1988) mentioned that the technology of foolishness where March suggested to
welcome in foolish ideas I order to discover new domains to experiement with doing things for
which they have no good reason, to be playful with the conception of themselves.
Dr. Khallouk taught me that innovation is not just about creativity, but also analytical thinking and
taking small steps towards achieving a goal. Failure is a part of the journey and it is crucial to
learn from it and avoid repeating the same mistakes. Innovation opportunities can come from
various sources, but it's important to identify a painful problem or an unsatisfied need and
develop solutions to solve them. Innovations need not be big but small innovations that can
change our daily lives. According to Dr. Khallouk, following our passion and leveraging our skills,
strengths, and weaknesses can help us make changes and start innovations on a small scale.
It's also important to test our ideas as soon as possible to know whether they will succeed or fail,
as failure is a part of success. He also taught the concept of opposite thinking, where we take
assumptions and describe the opposite to find a solution that offers improvements. Dr. Khallouk
encouraged us to think outside the box and leverage our unique knowledge and skills to be a
part of the innovation process. Innovation need not only be for economic growth but for society
as a whole. The innovation journey is divided into three main stages: initiation, development, and
implementation, which we should focus on one at a time. Failure is a part of this journey and we
should welcome foolish ideas to discover new domains to experiment with, doing things for which
we have no good reason, and to be playful with the conception of ourselves.
