System Monitoring
Application purpose

▪ The System Monitoring application in SAP Focused Run provides an overview of the current status of technical
systems, including their associated instances, databases, and hosts.
▪ System Monitoring is based on automated checks in regular time intervals in the four categories Availability,
Performance, Exceptions, and Configuration. In each of these categories, several metrics and corresponding
thresholds can be defined per managed object.

▪ The configuration is based on a template

concept. Predefined templates can be used as a
starting point to derive own customer-specific
templates.
▪ The System Monitoring application provides
information about the current status according
to the last measurement of each metric. In
addition, alerts will be created and can be handled
via the Alert Inbox in case thresholds are violated.
▪ System Monitoring allows to detect issues early
and prevent major disruptions by proactively
monitoring the general health of the IT landscape.

Alert Management
Application purpose

Alert Management is the central access point to handle

alerts in SAP Focused Run. It allows efficient alert handling
based on consolidation of single alerts to alert aggregates.
Alerts from modeled use-cases (System and Database
Monitoring) and unmodeled use-cases (Integration &
Exception Monitoring, Real User Monitoring) are handled in a
single point of truth. Beside alerts created by SAP Focused
Run applications, alerts from third-party applications can also
be fed into Alert Management.
Improve operational quality
▪ Manage and distribute the workload from incoming alerts in the
operations team
▪ Trigger alert resolution procedures specifically for incoming alerts
▪ Provides additional documentation for alert resolution
▪ Logging of every activity
Reduce manual efforts and cost in IT operations
▪ Correlate all alerts resulting from one issue into a single alert cluster
▪ Automatic creation of incidents and sync between incident status and
alert status

Operations Intelligence
Application purpose

With Operations Intelligence, SAP Focused Run

provides different kinds of machine learning and
data science technologies to optimize the
operation of a large system landscape.

The scope of the application is herby in three

different areas
▪ Provide advanced insights into single metrics
▪ Predict future behavior of single metrics
▪ Predict potential future system outages and degradations
based on the behavior of multiple metrics of a system

Improve operational quality

▪ Optimize threshold settings for a single metric
▪ React on predicted status of a metric

Threshold recommendation – Calculation background

The recommended threshold is based on a Extreme

statistical approach
▪ Middle half of all measurements is considered a box,
the range from the lowest point in the box to the
highest point is the “interquartile range” Outlier
▪ All measurements from the box boundary to box
boundary + 1.5 * interquartile range are considered
as neither outlier nor extreme values

Value
▪ Points above or below this range are outliers
