I. DESCRIPTION
In this course, students will demonstrate command of the basic rules of English grammar and
their usage both orally (listening and speaking) and in writing (reading and writing). They will
compose sentences by using the standard conventions of English language. In addition,
students will reinforce their vocabulary knowledge for a better understanding of English in
everyday situations.
II. EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1. Demonstrate command of the basic rules of English grammar and their usage both orally
(listening and speaking) and in writing (reading and writing).
1.1. Identify nouns, adjectives, prepositions, and conjunctions.
1.2. Use verb tenses for the conveyance of different times, sequences, conditions, and
states.
1.3. Distinguish appropriate and inappropriate shifts in verb tense.
1.4. Show the correct use of prepositions and their relationship with nouns.
2. Compose sentences by using the standard conventions of the English language.
2.1. Formulate sentences starting with capital letters and ending with the correct
punctuation mark.

2.2. Apply editing strategies such as combining, expanding, and reducing sentences for
shifts in meaning.
3. Reinforce their vocabulary knowledge for a better understanding of English in everyday
situations.
3.1. Apply spelling rules correctly to the appropriate level words.
3.2. Analyze words based on context clues.
COURSE METHODOLOGY
For the on-ground learning environment, students are required to attend classes at regular
hours. For the online learning environment, students are not required to attend classes at
regular hours. However, it is important that they follow the participation guidelines and
comply with the assigned tasks on the stipulated due dates. Communication will take place
through announcements published in the learning platform and through email.

The evaluation methods measure the work assigned in and out of the classroom. Students must
comply with the assignments to attain the knowledge and skills required in the course.
Although specific time allocated for in-class and out-of-class activities may vary for each
student, they should keep in mind that the overall time commitment, both in and out of class,
will be necessary to satisfactorily complete the course.
Standard grading curve will be used.

acts of falsification, misrepresentation, intellectual dishonesty, whether intentional,

misusing grant or institutional funds, facilitating other students’ acts of academic
dishonesty, incurring in academic sabotage, and resubmitting work completed in
