Sptve - Techdrwg 8 - q1 - m14

Here are the steps to sketch the following lines and shapes: 1. Horizontal line - Hold your pencil at an angle. - Draw a line from left to right keeping it parallel to the bottom edge of your paper. 2. Vertical line - Hold your pencil perpendicular to the paper. - Draw a line from top to bottom. 3. Inclined line - Hold your pencil at an angle that is neither horizontal nor vertical. - Draw a line from one point to another at that angle. 4. Curve line - Hold your pencil at the tip and draw a smooth curvy line freehand. 5. Rectangle - Draw two vertical lines and two horizontal

TECHNICAL DRAWING 2

Quarter 1
Self-Learning Module 14
Title : Sketching Lines and Shapes
Introductory Message

For the facilitator:

Welcome to the Technical Drawing 2 Self-Learning Module 14 on Sketching Lines

and Shapes!

This module was collaboratively designed, developed and reviewed by educators from
Schools Division Office of Pasig City headed by its Officer-In-Charge Schools Division
Superintendent, Ma. Evalou Concepcion A. Agustin in partnership with the Local
Government of Pasig through its Mayor, Honorable Vico Sotto.
The writers utilized the standards set by the K to 12 Curriculum using the Most
Essential Learning Competencies (MELC) while overcoming their personal, social,
and economic constraints in schooling.

This learning material hopes to engage the learners into guided and independent
learning activities at their own pace and time. Further, this also aims to help learners
acquire the needed 21st century skills especially the 5 Cs namely: Communication,
Collaboration, Creativity, Critical Thinking and Character while taking into
consideration their needs and circumstances.

In addition to the material in the main text, you will also see this box in the body of
the module:

Notes to the Teacher

This contains helpful tips or strategies that
will help you in guiding the learners.

As a facilitator you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this module.
You also need to keep track of the learners' progress while allowing them to manage
their own learning. Moreover, you are expected to encourage and assist the learners
as they do the tasks included in the module.
For the learner:

Welcome to the Technical Drawing 2 Self-Learning Module 14 on Sketching

Lines and Shapes!
The hand is one of the most symbolized part of the human body. It is often used to
depict skill, action and purpose. Through our hands we may learn, create and
accomplish. Hence, the hand in this learning resource signifies that you as a learner
is capable and empowered to successfully achieve the relevant competencies and
skills at your own pace and time. Your academic success lies in your own hands!

This module was designed to provide you with fun and meaningful opportunities for
guided and independent learning at your own pace and time. You will be enabled to
process the contents of the learning material while being an active learner.

This module has the following parts and corresponding icons:

Expectation - These are what you will be able to know after

completing the lessons in the module

Pre-test - This will measure your prior knowledge and the

concepts to be mastered throughout the lesson.

Recap - This section will measure what learnings and skills

that you understand from the previous lesson.

Lesson- This section will discuss the topic for this module.

Activities - This is a set of activities you will perform.

Wrap Up- This section summarizes the concepts and

applications of the lessons.

Valuing-this part will check the integration of values in the

learning competency.

Post-test - This will measure how much you have learned from
the entire module.
EXPECTATIONS

At the end of the lesson, the learners should be able to:

1. identify the different kinds of lines and shapes;
2. enumerate the principles of sketching shapes; and
3. show interest to learn about principle of sketching lines and shapes.

RECAP
Before we proceed to our new lesson, try to answer the following questions:

1. Give the two basic tools used in freehand sketching?

2. What is meant by freehand sketching or drawing?

LESSON
Sketching Principles.
Sketching is a basic skill to be learned by the student before he will be exposed
to the higher level of drawing activities. Sketching is a preliminary layout or draft
before making it into final drawing. This can be done in a light line forms with the
use of sketching tools and materials.

Basic consideration in freehand sketches.

It is necessary to expose the learner in the different line exercises as basic
activities in freehand sketches. The following are the form of line:
1. Horizontal line. It is a line parallel to the horizon and drawn from left to right.

2. Vertical line. Is a line that be obtained by suspending plumb and this line
form 90 degrees from the horizon. It is drawn from top to bottom.

3. Inclined line. Its neither horizontal nor vertical.

4. Curve line.

Basic shapes of objects.

1. Rectangle- has its opposite sides equal and all its angle are right angle

2. Square- four equal sides and its angles are right angles.

3. Hexagon- is a polygon having six equal sides.

4. Rhombus- all its sides equal and its angle other than right angle.
5. Isosceles triangle- has two equal sides and angles.

6. Right triangle- has an angle of 90 degrees.

7. Circle- a close curve figure, all points are equidistant from the center.

8. Oblong- an elongated shape which originates from the circle.

Basic strokes in sketching lines.

Principle of sketching shapes.
Before doing sketching activities, it is important to know the basic principles
in sketching. The following are:
1. Analyze the proportion of the object.
2. Mentally feature out the basic shape of the subject.
3. Determine the small detail on the subject.
4. Establish the height and width of the subject to be sketched.
5. Use the appropriate sketching materials.

ACTIVITIES
Drawing activities

Materials needed:
1. No. 1 pencil (HB or F pencil)
2. Pencil eraser

Directions. Sketch the following lines and shapes. (Do not use any straight edge as
guide in sketching)
1. Vertical line

2. Horizontal line

3. Inclined line

4. Curve line

5. Square

6. Rectangle
7. Rhombus

8. Hexagon

9. Right triangle

10. Circle
