Air Standard Otto Cycles
1. Calculate the ideal air standard cycle efficiency based on the Otto cycle for a gas engine with a cylinder bore of 50 mm, a stroke of 75 mm and a clearance volume of 21.3 cm3. 2. An engine of 250 mm bore and 375 mm stroke works on Otto cycle. The clearance volume is 0.00263 m3. The initial pressure and temperature are 1 bar and 30oC. If the maximum pressure is limited to 25 bar, find the following: i. The air standard efficiency of the cycle, ii. The mean effective pressure for the cycle. 3. The minimum pressure and temperature in an Otto cycle are 1 bar and 27oC. The amount of heat added to air per cycle is 1500 kJ/kg. Determine, The pressure and temperatures at all the points of Otto cycle. Also calculate the specific work and thermal efficiency of the cycle for a compression ratio of 8:1. 4. In an Otto cycle air at 1 bar and 290 K is compressed isentropic ally until the pressure is 15 bar. The heat is added at constant volume until the pressure rises to 40 bar. Calculate the air standard efficiency and mean effective pressure for the cycle. 5. An ideal Otto cycle with air as the working fluid has a compression ratio of 8. The pressure and temperature at the end of the heat addition process, the network output, the thermal efficiency, and the mean effective pressure for the cycle are to be determined. Consider heat addition of 750 kJ/kg. 6. The compression ratio of an air-standard Otto cycle is 9.5. Prior to the isentropic compression process, the air is at 1 bar, 35oC, and 600 cm3. The temperature at the end of the isentropic expansion process is 800K. Determine the highest temperature and pressure in the cycle; the amount of heat supplied per cycle (in kJ); the thermal efficiency; and the mean effective pressure.
