PDF Ip Addressing and Subnetting Ipv4 Workbook Instructors Version v2 1pdf - Compress

This document outlines the subnetting and IP addressing scheme for 3 networks: New York with 325 hosts, Washington D.C. with 220 hosts, and Dallas with 150 hosts. The subnet mask is 255.255.240.0, requiring a minimum of 5 subnets. 9 subnets are needed to allow for 70% growth. New York is assigned the range 135.126.0.0 to 135.126.15.255 using 553 addresses. Washington D.C. uses 135.126.16.0 to 135.126.31.255. Dallas is assigned 135.126.32.0 to 135.126.47.255. The remaining ranges are used for router connections.

Visualizing Subnets Using

The Box Method

The box method is the simplest way to visualize the breakdown of

subnets and addresses into smaller sizes.
Start with a square. The whole square
is a single subnet comprised of 256
addresses.

/24
255.255.255.0

1 Subnet

Split the box in half and you get two

subnets with 128 addresses,

get eight subnets with 32 addresses,

Visualizing Subnets Using

The Circle Method

The circle method is another method used to visualize the breakdown

of subnets and addresses into smaller sizes. By shading or coloring in the
different sections of the circle you can easily break up your subnets without
overlapping your addresses. You adjust each subnet to the correct size
needed.
Start with a circle. The whole circle is
a single subnet comprised of 256
addresses.
