Module 4 Trends Networks and Critical Thinking in The 21st Century

1. This lesson discusses parts and wholes in creative imagination. It explains that creative imagination allows thinkers to integrate different parts like technology, culture, and business into a creative whole through innovations. 2. The five components of globalization - economy, politics, migration, ideas, and environment - constitute the whole through integration. Each part must be balanced or it can negatively impact the entire system. 3. Creative imagination helps improve products by incorporating consumer feedback, allowing parts to be reworked and ensuring the whole achieves perfection through quality testing.

Parts of a Whole
Globalization is synonymous to learning the history of the world
to be able to fully grasp its depth and dimension. Because the
world is unfolding to the age of technology, everything becomes
so quick and handy. The six components which are economy
(trade, finance, foreign aid), politics, migration (people and
culture), ideas and environment are so interconnected that they have become
tools to the expansion and growth of world business and development (Sygaco,
2017).

INTRODUCTION
In the previous lesson, we learned about the five components of
globalization. Here, we will learn more the importance of
balancing all these parts to maintain the entire whole as
globalization requires updating and improving the structure of
every department to secure sustainable development.

In this lesson, you will still explore the global networks and globalization.
This may help you in understanding the role of creative imagination in balancing
its parts in maintaining the entire whole.

1
OBJECTIVES
In this lesson, you are expected to perform the following:

1. Identify and discuss the different contributions of the parts to a whole.

2. Stress the important role of the creative imagination in putting together
the various parts of a whole.
3. Create a poster showing the parts and the wholes in creative
imagination.

VOCABULARY WORDS
Before starting our lesson, let us read and get acquainted with
the meaning of following words.

a. COMPONENTS – one of the parts of something (such as a system or

mixture): an important piece of something.

b. CREATIVE IMAGINATION - The method wherein unique concepts are

generated, particularly whenever this doesn’t appear to be accountable
merely by the blending of present concepts.

c. CRITICAL THINKING – the process of analyzing information in order to

make a logical decision about the extent to which you believe something
to be true or false.

d. INTEGRATE – to combine (two or more things) to form or create

something.

PRE-TEST
DIRECTIONS: Write the letter “T” if the statement is true and “F” if
the statement is false. Write your answer in your answer sheet.

1. Creative imagination and critical thinking go hand-in-hand.

2. Providing solutions is one of the important role of creative imagination.

3. Through creative imagination, product or services no longer goes through

a series of quality assurance test in achieving perfection.

4. When parts are well-balanced, the entire whole can be maintained.

5. Parts doesnt affect the whole of a specific component.

2
LEARNING ACTIVITIES

After answering the pre-test, you may now proceed to the lesson.
In this part, you are expected to learn about parts of a whole, the
important role of the creative imagination in putting together the
various parts of a whole as well as create a poster showing the parts and the
wholes in creative imagination. You may also search and study additional
information about the lesson from other resources.

LET’S START!

PARTS & WHOLES IN CREATIVE IMAGINATION

Understanding parts of a whole highlights two basic and important

concepts i.e. perception and mereology. How did they aid your undertstanding
toward parts and wholes? First, you need to conceptualize them based from
their definition. Perception is a process that involves interpretation, use of
knowledge, and understanding. In other words, it is actually the representation
of what is perceived; basic component in the formation of a concept. While,
Mereology is a study of the wholes they form from its parts.

Figure 1

Figure one (1) explains the part and whole relationship showing the whole
apple sliced in two equal parts yet these parts when paired will form a definite
whole of an apple.

The term part refers to something determined in relation to something

that includes it. While whole refers to all components without exception; being
one unit or constituting the full amount or extent or duration or complete.

The Contributions of the Idea of the Parts to a Whole

1. According to Inquire (1994), each “part-part-whole schema allows

children to deal with problems more flexibly by interpreting the semantic
structures of different addition and subtraction problems in terms of parts
and wholes”.

3
2. The “part-part-whole arrangement allows individuals to adaptably handle
situations by deciphering the semantic structures of various parts and
wholes.

3. According to Gestalt theory: the world is a functional logical whole, the

events and experiences in real life are arranged into significant
components, and the natural elements have their individual structure.

The five components of globalization such as the economy, politics,

migration, ideas and the environment constitute and integrate what we have
today. If one part overpowers the other or plays least – it creates a domino
effect that will completely affect the entire system. It is important to balance all
these parts to maintain the entire whole, otherwise it will collapse and
disintegrate. When crisis happens, solutions are provided to create and make
a reliable whole.

Creative imagination offers opportunity and allows thinkers to integrate

the parts of a whole such as technology, culture, science and business
altogether. The combination and blending of all the parts into a creative whole
will result to innovations among existing companies and institutions which will
give birth to a new product or service. Through globalization the new invention
or innovated product/service is distributed to all its potential markets worldwide.
The pace of its development is so fast and the distribution is so magnified that
globalization turns the world to an open market. Likewise, it is easy to spot if a
creation is successful or not by the trends and buying power of the consumers.
Social network becomes a powerful tool in advertising and every new, old
product or service can be easily gauged with the statistics available by market
research.

Creative imagination allows the developer or creator to improve the

weakness of a product and thereby will provide solutions to it by going back to
the consumers and asking the reasons of why the product is inferior in some
aspects. The research team who are think tanks definitely will incorporate all
the product or service goes through a series of quality assurance tests to truly
achieve perfection.

Creative imagination makes the thinkers of the product or service to have

a foresight of possible threats or expansion of the creation. This will determine
whether these parts such as the various sectors are willing to take the risk of
matching the quality between competitors. Data collection from the market
survey will answer what the market really needs and what problems or
advantages may occur in the future.

When all the parts engage into creative imagination such as positive and
critical thinking it can be inferred that the whole will be able to sustain the
changes in the environment. Therefore when each part of the system thinks
and acts creatively, it becomes the key to survival and endurance.

PRACTICE TASK 1
LET’S DO THIS!
Directions: In your own imaginative way, list down five
contributions of the parts to a whole in creative imagination.
Explain the following contributions you have presented. Write
your answer on your separate answer sheet.

CONTRIBUTIONS OF THE PARTS TO A WHOLE

1. __________ 2. __________ 3. __________

4. __________ 5. __________

Process Questions:
1. What do you think is the most important contribution of the parts to wholes in
creative imagination?
2. Do you think the whole, itself can sustain its entire system? Why and why not?
3. Is it important to identify the contributions of the parts? If yes, how does it help to
prevent the disintegration of each parts of a whole?

PRACTICE TASK 2
LET’S DO THIS!
Direction: In your own understanding, complete the graphic
organizer by showing the concepts that would describe the role
of creative imagination.

CREATIVE
IMAGINATION

Process Questions:
1. What is your own understanding about creative imagination?
2. Do the concepts lead you to better understanding of the role of creative
imagination? Why and why not?
3. How does creative imagination work in balancing each part of a whole?

5
PRACTICE TASK 3
LET’S DO THIS!
Direction: Create a poster showing how creative imagination
balance the parts and wholes of the components of globalization.

Poster

Process Questions:
1. How did you find the activity?
2. Did you feel the importance of your own imaginative skills?
3. Through imagination, can you imagine the world without globalization? Is it
possible? Why? Why not?

POST-TEST
ESSAY WRITING
DIRECTIONS: Discuss the important role of creative imagination
in putting together the various parts of a whole by writing an
essay. Please be guided by the rubric. Write the answer on your
answer sheets.
