The word dunya means many things but generally
means the temporary earthly world. Literally, the
word dunya means ‘closer,’ or ‘lower’.
The word deen means a system of life where
Almighty Allah (SWT) is worshipped and obeyed,
in a manner that includes all aspects of human life.
Akhirah refers to the afterlife, the life that Muslims
believe all humans will experience after death.
For Muslims, failing to not
get attached to this dunya
means failing to have
success and security in
the akhirah.
This dunya is only
temporary. Whatever is in Allah has already promised us that whatever waits
this dunya is nothing for us in the akhirah is far better than whatever is in
compared to what Allah this dunya.

“And the next life is certainly far better for you than this
one.”
There is no problem in loving the dunya. It is after all a
blessing for us and a means for us to worship our Creator.
The problem comes in when we make the dunya become
the goal and not the means to the ultimate goal. Allah
knows how we forget the dunya’s place in our journey to the
hereafter. He says in the Quran:

“But you prefer the worldly life, while the Hereafter is better
and more enduring.” (QS Al-’Ala : 16-17)
We often hear: “Life is short, enjoy it.” But often
forget: “Eternity is long, prepare for it.“ We
often forget that this life is only temporary and
that whatever is waiting for us is forever, which
is why we should make the best of it.
Ibn Mas’ud reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him,
said, “Verily, Allah Almighty made the world for a short time, and what remains
is but the shortest of it. (Sahih according to al-Albani)
Insya Allah
we can all get closer with our deen
