WARM-UP
Build a Vocabulary Wall
Describing
Appearance

● Objective: In this task, students will create a visual reference for themselves by
building a "Vocabulary Wall" to gather and categorize vocabulary related to
describing people's appearances.

● Materials Needed:

1. Large sheets of paper or poster boards

2. Markers

3. Sticky notes or index cards

4. Colored pens or markers

● Instructions:

1. Divide the class into small groups. Each group is responsible for a
specific category of vocabulary related to appearance: facial features,
hair, clothing, accessories, body types, age, expressions

2. Provide each group with a large sheet of paper or poster board.

Instruct them to create a "Vocabulary Wall" on which they will organize
the vocabulary and expressions related to their assigned category. The
wall should include:

● A central title for their category (e.g., "Clothing and Accessories").

● Words and expressions listed neatly and visibly.
● Simple sketches or visual representations of the words (optional).

3. Each group should use different colored pens or markers to make their
vocabulary stand out. They can also use sticky notes or index cards for
words and expressions that can be rearranged or updated.

4. Encourage students to be creative and think about synonyms,

adjectives, and descriptive phrases related to their category. For
example, the "Clothing and Accessories" group might include words like
"scarf," "elegant," and "wearing a stylish hat."

5. After a set amount of time, have each group present their Vocabulary
Wall to the class. They should explain the significance of their chosen
vocabulary and how it relates to describing appearances.
