Writing a GCSE Data Handling coursework can be a challenging task for many students.

It involves
a thorough understanding of statistical concepts, data analysis, and effective communication of
findings. Here are some reasons why students might find it difficult:

1. Complexity of Data Handling: Dealing with large datasets and applying various statistical
methods can be complex. Students need to demonstrate a strong grasp of the techniques
learned in class and apply them appropriately to their chosen dataset.
2. Technical Skills: Some students may struggle with the technical aspects of data analysis,
such as using software tools like Excel or statistical packages. Learning and applying these
skills can take time and effort.
3. Interpretation of Results: It's not just about crunching numbers. Students need to interpret
the results of their analysis and draw meaningful conclusions. This requires critical thinking
and a deep understanding of the subject matter.
4. Time Management: GCSE students often have a busy schedule with multiple subjects and
assignments. Balancing the workload and managing time effectively is crucial for producing
a high-quality coursework.

Get this resource as part of a bundle and save up to 20% A bundle is a package of resources grouped
together to teach a particular topic, or a series of lessons, in one place. To extend my investigation
further, I will look at the height of girls and boys separately. However, this was no always possible
and therefore, these values could have had an effect on the patterns that the graphs and data showed.
In order to find all these factors I will have to produce another frequency table. For example, there
are 4 girls and also 4 boys who are in the 170cm boundary. This method shows how the data
increases as a total. I am going to compare the height and weight because I know that their bodies
will go through some changes. Skewed left means that the left side is heavier than the right side. For
example, the number of people in year 7 is 151. I will examine these and gather evidence to prove my
hypothesis right or wrong. The low-priced makes, the medium priced makes and the expensive
makes. To prove my hypothesis, I had to present the data in the same way as for my first one, to
compare the heights of the girls and the boys in year 11. Additionally, I found that I had only
sampled two out of five year groups in the whole school. Boys would usually go through puberty at
a much later time. This meant that I was studying the data for boys in more depth because I had a
larger sample. Indicating that the expensive make is the most spread out meaning that it has a wide
range. Get this resource as part of a bundle and save up to 17% A bundle is a package of resources
grouped together to teach a particular topic, or a series of lessons, in one place. Also the IQR for
boys is also much greater than girls indicating a wider spread of data. I will use that same method for
my age and make investigations. Furthermore, the limitations of this investigation could have had an
effect on it, such as the different sample sizes (mentioned previously, page 13). The tallest girl in ear
7 may be an outlier, however, I decided to keep it because of the girl who came before her in terms
of height. The mathematical process that best shows the comparison was the Box and Whisker
diagrams as they were a simple way of portraying a lot of mathematical data, the mathematical data
which is of least significance are the dot plots because I believe I could have possibly represented the
data in a better way eg bar charts are similar but are easier to read. Quantitative data is data produced
numerically, for example, IQ, height and weight. I will show this by drawing a scatter graph and
seeing if there is any difference in the prices. There were limitations in this hypothesis (see
limitations) but luckily, I was able to identify all the anomalies and explain them using theories I had
researched, such as body mass index. For example, in year 7, there are 282 pupils, so I must click:
“Rnd (1x282)”. The majority of people in year 7 lie between the values of 140cm and 170cm.
Quantitative data is good especially if you want to do statistical comparisons. I will use different
makes of cars and the choices I have picked are Mercedes, Ford and BMW; however I think that
because of my knowledge I know that the Mercedes is a more expensive make of a car and therefore
it should have a higher used price than the rest of the cars. The standard deviation is the square root
of the variance (the sum of squared differences between the average value and all observed values).
It is the number that divides the distribution into halves; half of the numbers are above the median
and half are below it when the data are arranged in an ascending or descending order. In addition,
there is a bigger range between the lowest and highest in boys than in girls, suggesting a wider
spread of data with more widespread outliers. I also added up the total amount of boys which was
correctly 25 (showing no errors were made in the tally chart). Tabloids tend to present their articles in
a much more casual manner, an informal use of vocabulary and briefer sections of text, combined
with bigger, bolder headlines and a larger amount of the paper devoted to adverts and pictures give
Tabloids a more unrefined atmosphere. After counting up my frequencies, had to work out the mid-
point of each interval in order to plot my graph, as in frequency polygons, it’s the mid-point which
represents all the points in that interval. Repeat this 26 times for set 1 to get set 1’s data. During the
investigation, I came across a few outliers where the result was much bigger than the average. The
reasons to why I have chosen this particular things Is because they will make it easy for me to
present my data and also compare it. It shows that mean word length to be higher in the Broadsheet
rather than the tabloid. It also shows that there are fewer boys with weights between 20 and 60kg
than girls. The reason why I think this is because from my own experiences in school, I have noticed
that there is not much difference between the girls in Year 9 and the girls in Year 11, particularly
when comparing their heights. Our customer service team will review your report and will be in

Not the right resource. This could be a reason why boys are weightier than girls. Using more samples
means my data will be more representative of the results and therefore more accurate. Our customer

exclusive cars as I hope this will make the range of my investigation wider. I feel that if I have more
pupils to look at, my results would also be more reliable. This could be due to the inaccuracy and
limitations of the data. This could mean that girls don’t grow as much by the time they are in Year 11
compared to boys. The graph shows that height and weight have a proportional relationship. I will
examine these and gather evidence to prove my hypothesis right or wrong. The gradients are steep
for the side of the curve, but the gradient decreases rapidly when the weight reaches approximately
70kg. Some people may be over weight or underweight, everyone’s body mass indices are different
therefore there are anomalous results. So if a car of a good make such as BMW is 5 years old it will
still depreciate less then a car of say Ford which is also five years old. Maths Handling Data
Coursework: Mayfield High School. The questions all have full working out and answers so students
can identify where they have made mistakes. I will go about this by first tabulating my sample, then
the difference between the brand new cars and the second hand cars. There are more girls than boys
in the 40-49kgs category. During this research I miscounted several times when trying to find the
mean and modes and also quartiles. So, far instance, much greater depth would be required for
averages.
I have chosen the suitable makes with high depreciation making them the low-priced group.
However, the maximum height is higher for girls: 180cm. Check out our shop for more information.

think that the expensive makes would have a bigger gap between there depreciation and there age,
then low-priced makes which will have a smaller difference between there depreciation and there
age. There are however more boys with weights higher than 60kg. There was no difficulty with this
test, the results turned out exactly as I had predicted. This shows the average height of boys in the
school is 162 cm according to the mean height. To extend my investigation further, I will look at the
height of girls and boys separately. This means that the boys’ study was done in more detail because
there were more samples, and therefore the frequencies are higher. However, I my results showed me
that my prediction was incorrect. My frequency polygon shows the frequencies of boys and girls at
different heights; it shows that there are many boys who are taller than girls. The girls however, have
stayed roughly the same compared to the Years 7 and 9. Most of the ideas are easier to access
through animation and slow reveal. If these outliers were to be removed, the graph would follow a
much more regular pattern, and the skewness would most probably decrease. Each topic has a
revision whiteboard file, and a set of exam questions that the students can work through afterwards
(or set as homework). As this is secondary data, I assume it to be reliable, but I am aware that I have
to keep in mind that there may be a few outliers. Although there maybe some problems and
anomalies with this sample because someone maybe away, someone maybe blind or have eye
problems and someone might be handicapped. See other similar resources ?3.00 (no rating) 0 reviews

hypothesis was not correct as there isn’t that much of a difference between boys and the girls.
Therefore I think that people have a further shot putt distance the older they become, as people are
unlikely to lose strength as their age increases. During that time, they may have a rapid increase in
their height and weight. After collecting this data, put it into tables according to the strata.
Secondary data means that it is research which had been collected by somebody else. I need to make
the experiment fair, so I need the same controlled experiment for each person who does the
experiment. The frequencies for the lower heights are very close to 0, and then rise up to reach a peak
point. A sample is necessary as it is not feasible to study all the data from the 1183 pupils that attend
Mayfield. I then used skewness to see how symmetrical my curves are. This anomalous value could
be the result of this particular student not being a healthy eater. This is very close to 67% and shows
a strong similarity between the results and a normal distribution. Some topics also have a 'resources'
document, which contains graphs etc for students to stick into their books, so they can create their
own revision notes.
On the other hand, Broadsheets tend to induce a more sophisticated tone. It allows the teacher to
introduce the key ideas to students via animated slides. Although you can still achieve well results
with small sample sizes, I feel that accuracy is more important so a bigger sample size is better. I also
aim to find out if there is only one factor or a combination of factors affecting the price of the cars.
Maths Handling Data Coursework: Mayfield High School. Then I will write down my observations
and any trends that I can see. All of this supports my hypothesis except that I predicted that girls
would be taller than boys in Yr 7, but the data indicates that they are the same. Qualitative data is
data produced in words and is more descriptive than quantitative data. There are however more boys
with weights higher than 60kg. For example: 0.285. I then multiplied this number by ten, and
rounded it to the nearest whole number. I have proved this in my investigation with the use of
several diagrams, tables and results that back up my claims. Thus my predictions and hypothesis’s
were correct and one of the first things I found out was that the age of the age affects the percentage
depreciation, the older the car is the more it will depreciate by. The reason for the anomalies in my
graph is that age is not the only factor which affects the percentage depreciation, but as most of my
cars fit the pattern I conclude that there is a strong link between the age and the percentage
depreciation and that as the age increases the percentage depreciation also increases for most cars.
This will basically allow be to compare all the makes average prices and so come up with the most
expensive and least expensive makes. This shows that it is more common for a boy to be taller than a
girl in year 11. This is not always true, as there are often anomalous results and outliers for every test
or set of data. The median weight for boys is almost as heavy as the girls highest weight, and the
IQR for boys is bigger than for girls, indicating more consistent data for girls. Then I will consider all
of the conclusions I have formed, hopefully this will then prove my hypothesis. Having learnt about
microplastics and zooplankton separately, the next two lessons sees students test the hypothesis that
zooplankton eat microplastics. A low-priced make with the same age 5 years old, would have a bigger
difference in its percentage depreciation say 55%. A3 sheets with questions now uploaded for
students to use as you go through presentation. As there is so little difference, between the medians
and the estimated means, we can see that either there are very few and inconsequential outliers, or
the outliers are cancelled out by more outliers at the other end of the scale. I will also have the line of
best fit to help me maybe predict future points and also see the difference easily. This could be a
reason why boys are weightier than girls. Write a review Update existing review Submit review

stronger than women. As this is secondary data, I assume it to be reliable, but I am aware that I have
to keep in mind that there may be a few outliers. Through my investigation I found that the boys in
year 11 did weigh more than girls. The median is about 20 and 50% of the results are between -40
and 30. But it is impossible to collect.2 pieces of data. I therefore had to round these numbers to
integers. See other similar resources ?5.00 (no rating) 0 reviews BUY NOW Save for later Not quite

Therefore I think that people have a further shot putt distance the older they become, as people are
unlikely to lose strength as their age increases. My results have proved that compared to the girls,
boys grow much taller and also gain more weight compared to the girls. It is also common for both
gender groups to be the height of 150-159cms. This shows that the girls and boys of year 7 are
similar in height. Apart from those certain result, all other data seem to be much more accurate as
they are all steadily going higher. A low-priced make with the same age 5 years old, would have a
bigger difference in its percentage depreciation say 55%. Reviews Select overall rating (no rating)
Your rating is required to reflect your happiness. Using this method, I will obtain an unbiased sample
of pupils, from each stratum. Therefore, I can say that taller people do weigh more. The Pros and
Cons of using a secondary database are. Every time I click the “equal” key, a random number
between 1 and 282 would appear. Therefore, my total population number changes from 1183 to 452.
So if a car of a good make such as BMW is 5 years old it will still depreciate less then a car of say
Ford which is also five years old. This means that the frequency at each class interval is less for girls
than for boys. Hunter-gathering was very common millions of years ago, where people had to hunt
for their food out in the wild. Some limitations that I might face are that I would not know weather
the make of the car was to blame for the amount of percentage depreciation. I will count sentence
length, calculate and compare word length, finding the averages in the process plus work out the
percentage of the article that is devoted to pictures and photos and record this on a spreadsheet. For
example: 3. I then selected one student from each section of ten. However, when in years 9 and 11,
their height and weight may not increase as much. This enabled me to find anomalies, remove them
and then redraw the curve. The graph shows that height and weight have a proportional relationship.
I have noticed however the median height for the girls in Year 7 is the same as the boys in Year 7.
Therefore this result is an anomaly, and may have an effect on the averages and spread of the data. I
have taken 3 articles on the same subject from each, one from the sports section, one on a fashion
article and an article on politics from each paper, to give a good variation to my data and try to give a
good overview of each paper. I therefore decided to draw my line of best fit by hand, according to
where I think it lies and excluding the anomalies. However, I had decided to keep it as it is possible
to find someone who were of these certain heights. I will do this by pressing the random button on
the calculator giving me a random number. I know this because all three averages, mean median and
mode, are all very similar. I want to then find out knowing that the Mercedes is much more of an
expensive make than the Ford and BMW, so if the mileage has been used up for the Mercedes and
the ford and the BMW will the Mercedes still be expensive. All information from the graph was
copied and placed below. Then I will work out there average cost, meaning the average cost of the
individual Make.
