INTRODUCTION

Piezoelectricity is a fascinating phenomenon that occurs in certain materials when subjected

to mechanical stress or vibration, resulting in the generation of an electric charge. Discovered
by the Curie brothers in the late 19th century, piezoelectric materials have found applications
in various fields, ranging from sensors and actuators to energy harvesting devices. One
significant application is the piezoelectricity generator, which harnesses mechanical energy
from vibrations or movements in the environment and converts it into electrical energy. The
piezoelectric effect refers to the ability of certain materials, such as crystals and ceramics, to
generate an electric charge in response to mechanical stress. This inherent property has paved
the way for the development of piezoelectric generators, devices capable of converting
mechanical vibrations or movements into electrical energy.

The introduction of piezoelectricity generators marks a promising advancement in the realm

of renewable energy. These generators harness ambient vibrations, whether from footsteps,
vehicle movements, or other environmental sources, and transform them into a usable
electrical charge. This technology holds immense potential for various applications, including
powering wearable devices, sensors, and even providing supplementary energy for low-
power electronic systems.

One of the key advantages of piezoelectric generators lies in their ability to harvest energy
from everyday activities and surroundings, offering a sustainable and efficient alternative to
conventional power sources. As the world continues to seek cleaner and more innovative
energy solutions, the piezoelectricity generator emerges as a viable option, contributing to the
ongoing efforts to create a more environmentally friendly and energy-independent future.
This report delves into the principles, applications, and advancements of piezoelectricity
generators, exploring their role in the ever-evolving landscape of renewable energy
technologies.

A piezoelectric generator is basically a type of generator that converts one form of energy to
another form. The generator converts mechanical energy into electricity and has a vast
application in modern day life.

Working principle
It is an important and innovative method of generation of electric energy from mechanical
energy without the need of rotational effect of generators. Therefore, piezoelectric generator
provides the method of direct conversion of electric energy to mechanical energy without
typical movement in rotation. Therefore, it has no moving parts that makes it easy to use,
compact and reliable as well. In addition, these features make conditioning of the signal
easier in piezoelectric generator.

The mechanism of piezoelectric generators involves electric dipoles generation and the
operation of piezoelectric generation is based on it. Dipole is basically two opposite charges
that have small distance as separation like bar magnet. If force is applied on piezoelectric
material, there is a minor change in the structure of crystal that induces the dipole formation.
Therefore, voltage is appeared on the crystal faces an it provides small amount of charge. The
extracted voltage could be used to charge the battery or power some sort of electric circuit.
The reverse of the entire process is also possible and it is applied in piezo buzzers and
ultrasonic transducers.

OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

 To develop an innovative product for environmental friendly electricity generation.

 To check the feasibility of innovative product in the market.
PROBLEM STATEMENT

In today's rapidly advancing technological landscape, there is a growing demand for

sustainable and environmentally friendly power sources to address the challenges of climate
change and reduce our reliance on non-renewable energy. Traditional power generation
methods often contribute to environmental degradation and are finite in their availability. As
a result, there is a critical need for innovative solutions that harness clean and renewable
energy. As the world faces an increasing demand for sustainable and clean energy sources,
the need for innovative and efficient power generation technologies becomes imperative.
Traditional methods of electricity generation often rely on non-renewable resources,
contributing to environmental degradation and climate change. In remote or off-grid areas,
access to a reliable power supply is a significant challenge, hindering economic development
and access to basic services.

The escalating global demand for sustainable and renewable energy sources has prompted a
critical examination of conventional power generation methods. One of the pressing issues
facing our society today is the need for innovative solutions that can harness ambient energy
to power various devices and systems.

In response to these challenges, there is a pressing need for a compact, efficient, and
environmentally friendly power generation solution. The current energy landscape demands
innovations that can harness energy from unconventional sources, allowing for decentralized
and off-grid power generation.

One promising avenue for innovation lies in the development of a more efficient and versatile
piezoelectricity generator. Current piezoelectric devices have limitations in terms of power
output, scalability, and practical applications. The existing technologies are often not
optimized for capturing and converting ambient mechanical energy into electrical power in a
way that is both economically viable and environmentally sustainable.

The challenge lies in developing a highly efficient and scalable piezoelectricity generator that
can harvest energy from various sources such as human motion, vibrations in machinery, or
even natural forces like wind and water flow. This innovation should address issues such as
low conversion efficiency, limited scalability, and the need for cost-effective manufacturing
processes.
IDEATION & DEFINING THE PRODUCT

This is where the innovation of a piezoelectricity generator comes into play. Piezoelectric
materials have the unique ability to convert mechanical vibrations and deformations into
electrical energy. This property opens the door to a wide range of applications, especially in
scenarios where ambient vibrations or mechanical movements are present but currently go
untapped.

Piezoelectricity generator addresses the need for alternative and sustainable energy sources.
These devices convert mechanical Vibrations, such as those from movement or pressure, into
electrical energy.

This technology is particularly useful in situations where a small, efficient power source is
required, such as in certain sensors, wearable devices, or low- power electronics,
Piezoelectricity generators will contribute to the development of self-powered systems,
reducing reliance on traditional energy sources and offering a greener solution in various
applications.

Piezoelectric sensors have a fast response time, allowing them to quickly convert mechanical
energy into electrical energy.

These do not require external power sources or batteries to operate. Once set up, they can
generate electricity without the need for ongoing maintenance.

These generators are environmental friendly because they do not produce harmful emission
or pollutants during operation.

The biggest advantage of piezoelectric generators is their size and versatility. Piezoelectric
elements are usually very flat and flexible to a certain extent, so it’s easy to incorporate them
into many things. Though the amount of electricity generated is little, it can be conditioned
and stored to do something useful later, like charging a phone or powering an emergency
flashlight. Multiple units can also be stacked to provide more output power, however, after a
certain point, there are diminishing returns since they require more force to compress.

Since piezo elements harvest waste energy from devices, a piezo attached to a motor, for
example, can harvest the energy from vibrations and lessen the noise since the vibration
energy has been converted to electrical energy.
Common Piezoelectric Materials
Piezoelectric Materials can be found as both naturally occurring and artificially occurring
elements. Some famous piezoelectric materials are mentioned below.
Naturally Occurring Materials:- Quartz was the first naturally occurring material that was
discovered to exhibit the piezoelectric effect. Quartz is made of silicon oxide and has a
piezoelectric coefficient of around 2pC/N.
Other materials like Rochelle salt (Potassium Sodium tartrate) and Sucrose (common sugar)
exhibit piezoelectricity too.

Artificially Occurring Materials:- Ceramics are commonly used as piezoelectric elements.

Some examples include Zinc Oxide, Barium titan ate, and Lead zircon ate titan ate.
