Q: Tell me about yourself.
A: My name is Johnny, I’m 12 years old .I will be in grade 8 on the following
semester, and my family immigrated to Canada last year. (Family members, include
pi) My friendly and outgoing personality helps me make a lot of friends. I like to
talk with others and is eager to do things for others. My mind is always full of
curiosity. New things that I haven’t done are always on my bucket list. I always
like to persistently put effort my work that I like, and enjoys the feeling of
succession after I had stepped out of my comfort zone and accomplished my goal.
(Hobbie simple.)
Q: Hobbies?
A: I am versatile. I love art and sports the same as academics. I have been fond
of music since I was a little kid, and my love of music seems to be born in the
blood, which I think was influenced by my mother, who likes music very much.
I have been playing the piano for eight years, practicing two hours a day. I
won gold in city and provincial tournaments and achieved level ten two years ago in
China. I currently play keyboard in a jazz band. My band won gold at the National
Musicfest Canada in May this year. I like playing solos the most, I can create
freely, instead of being limited to playing music with the chords written
mechanically.
I also created a small band at Fern Hill School, and played “Libertango”
together with the vocal teacher at the school’s art and music night. I also have
been playing the violin and trumpet for two years, and plan to learn drums, guitar,
and other instruments in the next two years. Music increases my empathy,
attention span, and confidence. I believe that music will become a lifelong passion
for me.
I really enjoy being on stage. Last year I took part in the school musical “The
Lion King Jr”, and this year I played the main role in the school musical “Moana
Jr”. I went to New York City with my family this summer to watch a Broadway
musical.
When it comes to sports, my favorite is swimming. I started swimming when I
was six years old, and now I’m in the New Stars Swimming club training six times a
week, four times a week are at Appleby College. The morning trainings are at 6:00
AM. I will be participating in a MAC Rising Stars swimming race tomorrow and the
day after. My perspective of long-term training is that it not only strengthens my
body, but also hones my perseverance.
Add: (Through competition with my team, I have cultivated my ability to
withstand pressure and a competitive consciousness. Every time I swim in the
water, I enjoy this feeling of freedom. I think swimming would develop my strong
and optimistic characteristic, which is the wealth of my life.)
Q: How do your parents support you?
A: My parents help me a lot in my life. They completely support all my hobbies and
help me find resources such as good teachers and bands. They ask me the progress
of my favorite hobbies and make it possible for me to learn them. They get up
early to help me cook breakfast and drive me to the destinations. They also let me
do everyday chores to help me reinforce my self-independence and take my
responsibility. They let me see the outside world by letting me travel to fourteen
foreign countries all around the world. And every journey, they let me do the pack
up and discuss the travel plans for our trips to harness my self-managements. They
bring me to concerts, musicals, museums, and art galleries to let me immerse in
art. My parents even brought me to the golden hall in Vienna to let me watch a
concert, I was only seven years old then. I think that doing so could develop my
potential and make my life a lot richer of colour.
Q: What are three things good about yourself?
A: I’m an optimistic person, who faces the challenges in a positive way. I am
creative, utilizing things that I know and convert them to new ideas. One of the
ideas is I used circuits to create a “Math Question Board” as my dad’s birthday
present. Lastly, I am a very curious person who likes to try new areas of interest.
Q: Movies?
A: I watched many documentaries about nature such as Seven Worlds, One Planet,
Africa. I hope to care for the animals that evolved on Earth and give them the
space they need to live in the unique world.
Q: Why do you choose our school?
A: I am very familiar of the campus because I’ve been coming here to go swimming
four times a week. Even my puppy seemed to be familiar for my parents bring him
for a walk here when I have swimming at your campus. I think the campus is very
beautiful, with a lot of nature, which is the thing I like.
Additionally, I was attracted to the wide range of extracurricular activities
and opportunities for service learning, which align with my interests and goals. I
know a variety of challenging extracurricular programs at your school along with the
debates ,the United Nations and the Walkathon. And several of my friends are
students at your school. They say that the activities are full of fun. I also helped
my friend to donate on the Walkathon! I am eager to join the school band and
orchestra. They are so various they suit me very well! They also talked about the
canteen with the delicious food. The food that attracted me most is the beef and
potatoes.
Several weeks ago, I came to your open house tour and was amazed to see the
library. How I’d wish to borrow books from there! The student ambassadors are so
outgoing and confident! I want to be one of them. I also heard that a student who
graduated went to Berklee College of Music, which is my desired university. I have
met the math teacher here and talked to her about your school’s math programs.
The programs suit me very well. I was particularly impressed by the school’s
commitment to foster a diverse and inclusive community that celebrates differences
and encourages students to be open-minded and empathetic.
Overall, I believe that this school would provide me the opportunity to dive
deep in areas of study that I’m passionate about and prepare for the next stage of
my journey.
Q: How do you contribute to your school or community?
A: At school I often donate for the McMaster Childrens’ Hospital, donating food,
toys, and money to children in need. My family and I often donate to the Kerr
Street food drive. It’s a great opportunity to help others in our community. I love
to take care of little kids. I occasionally teach JK kids to play soccer, and read
books for them at school. In the morning, I always arrive at school earlier than
others to help the teacher write down our schedule and take down chairs off tables
for my classmates. Sometimes I clean up our school yard too. During trick or
treating, I help serve hot chocolate for the whole community. Tomorrow my jazz
band will perform in a nursing home in Markham. In the future I am going to do
more community service in other areas.
Q: Who do you admire?
A: I admire David Attenborough. He is an environment protector, and has gone to
several countries. He is 98 years old now. He has gone through many forests. He
made many documentaries to tell people that it is important to save the
environment.
Q: Why shall we pick up you?
A: The school’s focus on developing not just academic knowledge, but also critical
thinking, creativity, and character.
I am confident, enthusiastic to study new things. I also like to contribute to
the school and community and have a lot of potential as well. I am looking forward
to pursuing challenges that could increase my capabilities. I believe that Appleby
College can provide the opportunity to dive deep into areas of study that I am
passionate about. In addition, I am versatile. I can join the math club and jazz
band; I might even create my own band at your school. I think that joining the
school will give more colour to your school as well.
Q: What do you need to improve yourself/weakness?
A: I am sometimes impatient, sometimes I just want to jump to the conclusions
while there is still a long road ahead of finish. However, I have been improving this
for a long period of time and is getting better.
Q: What is your favorite subject, and why?
A: My favorite subject is computer studies. Because I love coding with Python and
designing 3D printing models. I love Math as well because it can improve the
intelligence of mankind and it is a vital thing in our lives. When I finally solve a
hard math question, I will usually feel sense of accomplishment. (I attended
the Mathematica Centrum Pythagoras Contest and achieved the certificate of
proficiency.)
Q: What is your parents’ job?
A: Before I arrived in Canada, my father was a marketing director of a real estate
company. My mother used to be a civil servant in a taxation bureau. My father
is a self-employee of security investment. He is looking at the market right
here and is planning to do real estate development. He is hard working and love
to learn new things and ideas. My mother spends a lot of her focus on making
lunch program donations. The lunch program is a program in which you raise a
thousand dollars a year to help lunch of a child in need.
Q: Strong things you are good at.
A: Academically, I am strong at Math. I attended the Mathematica Centrum
Pythagoras Contest and achieved the certificate of proficiency. Now at school,
I’m learning the grade 8 and grade 9H book. I believe that Math will develop
my potential as well.
Q: Adaptation at school.
A: I adapt to the school very well. I adapted to the teacher’s teaching method and
enjoyed it very much. Because my hobbies are wide and I am an outgoing
person, I have made many friends from my class and from other grades. I
participate in almost all the events at school. (School activities include choir,
band, musical, PSAA softball and cross country, bird banding, fundraising). I
also like to help teacher too. By getting to school early and help write down
the schedule for the class, I make the teacher feel less stressed for the day.
