This is a method of education for young children that stresses the development of a child's own initiative
and natural abilities, especially through practical play. This method allowed children to develop at their
own pace and provided educators with a new understanding of child development. The Montessori
Method, presents the method in detail. Educators who followed this model set up special environments to
meet the needs of students in three developmentally-meaningful age groups: 2–2.5 years, 2.5–6 years,
and 6–12 years. The students learn through activities that involve exploration, manipulations, order,
repetition, abstraction, and communication. Teachers encourage children in the rst two age groups to
use their senses to explore and manipulate materials in their immediate environment. Children in the last
age group deal with abstract concepts based on their newly developed powers of reasoning, imagination,
and creativity.

By self-activity Froebel meant that the child should not indulge in any activity which is suggested by
parents or teachers but he should carry out his own impulses and decisions. Education, he believed, is a
process of individual growth.
This growth is directed by inner forces in the child. As the child has perception and reason he can be made
conscious of the presence of God within him. Divinity is already within the child. That divinity has to be
revealed or manifested through spontaneous self-activities of the child.
Creativeness is the natural inner urge of the child. Man is, he said, by nature an active and dynamic being.
He is not a passive and silent observer of events. He wants to do something and must create.
The Kindergarten training consists of three inter-related activities of self-expression. These are (a) song, (b)
movement and (c) construction. Language development takes place through these activities.
All the songs are about common objects of life. They are intended to exercise the infant’s senses, limbs
and muscles. Every song is related to a nursery game and is based on the physical, mental and moral need
of the child.
