candidate is enabled to hold a place for that course; consequently, the position of the candidate
in the rankings relating to his/her subsequent choices will not be processed. For all the previous
choices, the candidate is still placed on the waiting list (candidate RESERVED), unless all courses
chosen with a higher level of preference according to the order of choices expressed in the of requests
are saturated (in this case the candidate will be ASSIGNED to the first course with vacant places).

HOW TO CARRY OUT THE TIL (ONLINE ENTRY TEST) IN REMOTE MODE

A.A. 2023/24

The test will take place via a special browser which, during the test, blocks all other PC activities and
makes a video and audio recording via webcam and microphone. Virtual Classrooms will also be
activated, which candidates will have to access via a browser on both PCs and smartphones or tablets.
The Virtual Classrooms will allow the Commissioners to supervise the conduct of the test.

Details on the methods of the test and on the equipment required to support it remotely are
illustrated below.

How to equip yourself

To take the TIL, each candidate must have the equipment described below available and carry out
some tests from home sufficiently in advance of the test date.
The mandatory tests to be carried out, as well as listed in this document, will be detailed in the TIL
section of your personal page on the Apply portal. The equipment required of each candidate is as
follows:
1. a desktop or laptop PC (hereinafter referred to as a TIL device) with Windows 10 or higher or Mac
operating system, connected to the mains and to the internet, equipped with video camera and
microphone. This PC must have Google Chrome installed and an additional software called
"LockDown Browser". Instructions for installing the LockDown Browser will be provided on your
personal page. The PC will be used to: ÿ carry out the test; ÿ allow surveillance;

2. a stable data network with which to be able to access the Internet with the TIL device; 3. a
smartphone or tablet or other PC (hereinafter referred to as a surveillance device)
connected to the mains and to the internet, equipped with video camera. The surveillance device
will be used by the Commissioners of the Virtual Classrooms to identify the candidate as an additional
control tool;
4. a stable data network with which the surveillance device can access the Internet, possibly different from
the one used for the TIL device.

The test must be carried out in a private room (henceforth called a room) which is quiet and well lit;
the candidate will have to organize the table on which the TIL device (hereafter called workstation) will
be placed so as not to be backlit during the test.

During the entire course of the test, no other person will have to access the room, except for
people who may be assigned to assist candidates who have presented certifications of disabilities or specific
learning disabilities (DSA).
The workstation must be free from any type of material, with the exception of an identity document, some
rigorously white sheets and a pen or pencil. The candidate will have to prepare this material before the test
starts, as it will not be allowed to get up to get it after the test has started.

What to do in the days before the test

Within a few days from the date set for the test, and in any case within the day before the test itself,
candidates are advised to carry out the following operations:

27
Machine Translated by Google

1. install or update on your device for TIL Google Chrome and LockDown Browser software; instructions and links are
provided on the personal page on the Apply portal. It is reiterated that the LockDown Browser must be installed
using the installation file linked on your personal page on the Apply portal: other versions must be uninstalled
because they are incompatible;

2. take the test quiz made available in the TIL section of your personal page on the Apply portal at least once; this
will allow the candidate to test the installation of the LockDown Browser and familiarize themselves with its use.

The candidates are required to take the simulation test in order to verify the absence of technical problems that
could compromise the outcome of the admission test.

What to do right before the test

On the day of the test, the candidate will have to prepare the room from which he/she will take the TIL, as indicated in the
"How to equip yourself" section. The network connections of both devices must always be active throughout the entire
test (if necessary, take into account the fact that the expected data traffic will be in the order of 500MB for each device).

The test will be considered invalid if any continuous disconnection from the system lasts long enough to not ensure
regular test performance; the decision will take place at the unquestionable judgment of the Central Commission. For
further details, consult the paragraphs "Procedures in the event of persistent connection problems" and "Procedures in
the event of disconnection from the Virtual Classroom", indicated below.

It should be noted that the Virtual Classrooms will record the entire test, including the audio. The recordings will
eventually be used by the Commission to verify the correct execution of the test.

The candidate will therefore have to make sure that they have an identity document available which must be shown
for recognition, blank sheets of paper, writing material.

What to do at the time of the test

At the time indicated for the convocation, the candidate must carry out the following operations:

1. With both devices access your personal page on the Apply portal using
Google Chrome;

2. With the surveillance device access the page to start the test and from this page
access the Virtual Classroom called Surveillance Classroom. Access to the Virtual Classroom on the Apply portal
will be equivalent to a signature of attendance and proves that the test has actually been carried out.

3. The candidate will then have to wait for the Commissioner's instructions.
4. When the Commissioner makes the roll call to start the recognition procedure, each candidate must:
a. use the surveillance device to show an identity document, your face, to show the room and the

workstation, and in particular that any note sheets are completely blank;

b. place the surveillance device behind you in position slightly

side, so that the video camera views the candidate/s at the workstation in a broad way.

5. After recognition, the Commissioner will give the candidate permission to start the
test.

6. Through the TIL device, again from their reserved area on the Apply portal, the candidate must click on
the "Click here to start the test" button.

28
Machine Translated by Google

7. You will be asked to start the Lockdown Browser and then a window with the TIL virtual classroom
will automatically open. It is therefore necessary to keep the webcam and microphone active on both
devices for the entire duration of the test.
How to behave during the test
Carrying out the test requires the candidate to comply with the rules of conduct normally due in an
exam. To guarantee the validity of the test, the candidate must, during the entire duration of the TIL, strictly
observe the following rules of conduct:

1. for the entire duration of the test:

to. do not interrupt the connection to the Virtual Classrooms, keeping the camera and microphone
of both devices active and do not use the latter for other purposes;
b. do not allow other people to access the room in which the TIL is being performed;
c. observe absolute silence so as not to disturb the other candidates present in the virtual room,
except when it is necessary to contact the Commissioner;
d. if necessary, use only white paper and a pen;
and. if requested by the Commissioner, show the workstation again and the
document.
2. in the event of technical problems during the performance or other needs, immediately
notify the Commissioner by raising his hand and possibly verbally calling his attention.

In the event that there should be a continuous disconnection from the system (with both devices) the
test will be considered invalid if it lasts long enough to not ensure regular test performance. The decision
will be made at the unquestionable judgment of the Central Commission.

In the event of persistent connection problems, the Central Commission may order the rescheduling to
another date only once, without the need to pay a new registration fee. Details on rescheduling the test will
be promptly provided to candidates via ticket.

In the event of similar problems following the first rescheduling, the candidate will be able to decide
whether to re-register for a test session independently, by paying the relative registration fee.

Procedures foreseen in case of disconnection from the Virtual Classroom

In the event that, during the performance of one of the sections of the test, a disconnection from the
Virtual Classroom should occur for a duration that does not ensure the smooth running of the section in
progress, the candidate will receive video messages .
The commissioner will have to disable the test for the candidate, who will however be able to terminate the
section in progress; the candidate will be able to start the next section only after having re-established the
connection.

In the event of any disconnections depending on the quality of the candidate's connection that
cannot be resolved in time to complete the test within the expected duration of the shift, it will be necessary to
reschedule the test to another date, either in the same session or to a session next; in this case the test will
have to be taken again in its entirety, regardless of the section affected by the disconnection.

Should technical problems arise on a section attributable to the Politecnico, the possibility will be given to
retake the same, keeping the results valid in any sections already completed. Details on the rescheduling of
the section concerned will be promptly provided to candidates via ticket.
