Triang LE

1. Triangle is a polygon with 3 sides and 3 angles. The largest side is opposite the largest angle and the smallest side is opposite the smallest angle. If two sides are congruent, the opposite angles are also congruent. 2. The interior angles of any triangle sum to 180 degrees according to the Triangle Angle Sum Theorem. The Triangle Angle Sum Theorem also applies to polygons with more sides, adding 360 degrees divided by the number of sides to the running total with each additional side. 3. The Isosceles Triangle Theorem states that if a triangle is isosceles, the base angles are equal. The Exterior Angle Theorem states that an exterior angle is equal to the sum of the remote interior

Triangle

Triangle
Is a polygon having 3 sides and 3 angles

B C
Relationship between the angle and sides

In any triangle, the largest the side and largest angle are opposite one another.
In any triangle, the smallest side and smallest angle are opposite one another
In any triangle, the mid-sized angle and mid-sized angle angle are opposite one another

If two sides are congruent (EQUAL IN MEASURE) then the corresponding two angles will
be congruent.

Included side is the side common to two angles of a triangle.

Included angle is the angle between two sides of a triangle.
Example

Given the XYZ,complete the following:

Triangle Theorems
1.Triangle-angle-sum Theorem
• Interior angles are angles form by the sides of the polygon
• In every triangle the sum of the measurement of the 3 interior angles
is 180.
angle-sum Theorem
In fact, the angles in a quadrilateral add up to ______. In a 5-sided figure, the angles add
up to _____. When you add a side, you add ______ to the sum of the angles

2.Isosceles Triangle Theorem (ITT)

In Isoceles Triangle, the base angles are equal

3.Exterior Angle Theorem (EAT): the measure of an exterior

angle of a triangle is equal to the sum of the measures of the
two remote interior angles of the triangle
Parts of Triangle
The BASE of a triangle can be any one of the three sides, usually the one drawn at the
bottom. You can pick any side you like to be the base. Commonly used as a reference side for
calculating the area of the triangle. In an isosceles triangle, the base is usually taken to be the
unequal side.
The ALTITUDE of a triangle is the perpendicular from the base to the opposite vertex.
(The base may need to be extended). Since there are three possible bases, there are also three
possible altitudes. The three altitudes intersect at a single point, called the orthocenter of the
triangle.
The MEDIAN of a triangle is a line from a vertex to the midpoint of the opposite side.
The three medians intersect at a single point, called the centroid of the triangle.
INTERIOR ANGLES -The three angles on the inside of the triangle at each vertex
EXTERIOR ANGLES -The angle between a side of a triangle and the extension of an adjacent
side.
Seatwork
1. Triangle ABC is equilateral with AB = 3x − 2, BC = 2x + 4, and CA = x + 10.
2. Triangle DEF is isosceles, angle D is the vertex angle, DE = x + 7, DF = 3x − 1,
and EF = 2x + 5.
