Discussion
Medicine
 is a drug or a substance used or taken by a living organism that helps
treat disease and maintain good health. It comes in different forms,
shapes, and sizes.
It can be absorbed by the body orally'
By drinking or swallowing
Inhaling, through absorption (as cream or gel)
By injection. (vaccines)
There the some uses of medicines this are the following:
a. For protection- these medicines are taken to protect a particular body
organ from damage or from getting disease, especially it the person is at high
risk or has a family history of particular body Illness
Example: sunscreens and medicines for the heart or for diabetes.

b. For prevention- these medicines are used to boost the immune system or
to prevent future health problems
Example: vitamin supplements, vaccines, and medicines good for the eyes,
for liver, or for the heart

c. To cure these medicines are taken to cure an existing health problem.


These medicines, like antibiotics for treating bacterial infections. Usually
prescribed by a doctor during a medical checkup.
Medicines come into two types.
1. Prescription medicine- it is a medicine that can only be acquired or
purchased legally with a doctor’s prescription. It is available only in
pharmacy. Prescription drugs whose symbol Rx
Example: antibiotics, pain relievers, and anti- depressants.

2. Nonprescription medicine- also known as over- the-counter drug it

The following are some things to keep in mind when taking


medicines.
1. Use medicines only under adult supervision.
2. Read and check labels before taking the medicine.
3. Consult with a doctor first.
4. Follow the doctors' instructions and/or the medical prescription.
5. Check expiration date on the medicine package.
6. Observe proper storage of medicines.
7. Buy medicines from reliable sources only like a pharmacy, or a
reputable grocery or supermarket for over-the-counter drugs.

Application

Direction: The class will be divided into two groups, each group will role
play the task below.

 Group 1 your member is in sick but you as a family did not go to the
hospital you give the illness person a medicine without permission in
the doctor.

 Group 2: when your family is in illness and the member of the


family are decided to go to the hospital.
