Q.1. A magnetic core has a circular cross sectional area of 12.

5 cm2, a mean path length of 25 cm and an air


gap length of 0.3 cm. a 350 turns coil is wound around the magnetic core and a current of 5 amp. Is
supplied to the coil assume 𝜇𝑟 = ∞ and the fringing of flux in the air gap is negligible.

a. Calculate the reluctance of magnetic circuit.

b. Find the magnetic flux density in the air gap.

c. Calculate the inductance of coil.

Q.2. A magnetic circuit shown in the figure has Ac = 9 cm2, Ag = 9 cm2, g = 0.05 cm, N = 500 turns. Assume
that the value 𝜇𝑟 = 5000 for the iron. Find the following.

a. The current for Bc = 1 wb/m2

b. The flux ø and the flux linkage λ .

c. The value of emf.

d. The inductance L

e. The energy.

f. Repeat the answers for Bc= 1 sin(377t).

Q.3. The magnetic circuit shown in figure has two parallel paths which link the winding. For N = 1000 turns, I =
0.2 amp., g1=0.5 mm, g2 = 1 mm, Ag = 645 mm2. Find the flux and flux density in each of the legs of the
magnetic circuit , and the inductance of the winding in henries. Neglect fringing at the air-gaps and any
leakage field. Assume that the relative permeability of the iron is to high that the ampere-turns if the
winding are all consumed only in the air gap.
Q.4. An electromagnet with two air gaps is shown in Figure The relative permeability of the iron is assumed to
be infinite, and flux fringing in the air gaps can be neglected. The coil has 500 turns. and it is supplied with
a current of 2.5 A.

Find:

a. The magnetic flux in each air gap

b. The total flux linkage of the coil

c. The magnetic energy stored in this system

Q.5. A cylindrical electromagnet is shown in Figure. The plunger is free to move in the vertical direction. The
air gap between the core shell and the plunger is uniform at 0.5 mm. It may be assumed that magnetic
flux leakage and flux fringing in the gaps arc negligible and
the relative permeability of the core is infinitely high. The
contains 600 turns and is supplied with a DC current of 8 A.

a. Calculate the magnetic: flux density in the air gap


between the surfaces of the center core and
plunger when the air-gap length g = 1.0 mm.

b. Find the inductance of the coil.

directed upward. The induced voltage across the coil has an rms value of 1000 V. Determine the required
value of flux density.

Q.8. A coil of 50 turns is in the shape of a square with 15 cm on each side. It is driven at a constant speed of
600 rpm. The coil is placed in such a way that its axis of revolution is perpendicular to a uniform magnetic
flux. density B of 0.15 T in the vertical direction. The coil is in a position of maximum flux linkage at time t
= 0. Determine (a) the time variation of the flux linkage and (b, the instantaneous voltage induced in the
coil.

b. The kinetic energy of the charge at t = 0.

Q.11. The magnetic flux density in a free space region is given as B = -3x ax + 5y ay – 2z az T . find the total force
acting on the rectangular loop lies in the plane z = 0 and is bounded by x = 1 , x = 3 , y = 2 and y = 5 where
all dimensions given in cm. ( I loop =10 A ).
