series B2000 CEMA B idlers

B2000
The Link-Belt® Series B2000 belt conveyor idler is designed to
handle a variety of lightweight materials at medium capacities and
belt speeds. • Die-Formed
The newly redesigned Link-Belt B2000 idler is radically different • Extra clearance end brackets

ference-fit pressed head design to maintain roll integrity. This between roll ends and bracket
pressed head design uses a ductile iron cast head, which eliminates
welding and any of its associated problems (distortion, misalignment,
weld quality, etc.) and delivers very low T.I.R. (Total Indicator Run
Out) values as compared to welded roll designs.
The rugged ductile iron head casting is precision
machined for accurate bearing/shaft alignment. The bearings
are placed closer to the support which results in a shorter
moment arm, minimizing shaft slope and extending
bearing life.
The B2000 utilizes a two-step system in preventing
contaminants from entering the bearing cavity of the
precision, 17mm deep groove ball bearings. The first
line of defense is a single-lip, low-friction nitrile wiping
seal that is protected by the cast ductile iron head.
The second line of defense is the factory-installed
contact seals on the ball bearing. The factory-lubricated
sealed ball bearing eliminates any need for re-lubrication
and its associated costs.
Each roller is equipped with a solid C1018 carbon
steel shaft for minimum defection under loads
resulting in increased service life. Precision
machined heads, optimum bearing placement,
accurate bearing alignment, and solid carbon
steel shafting permit this design to exceed
CEMA B load ratings.

series C2000 CEMA C idlers

C2000
The Link-Belt® C2000 ball bearing idler bridges the gap between the Link-
Belt Series B2000 ball bearing and Series C3000 roller bearing idlers by
addressing the needs of less demanding applications such as those of sand
and gravel plants. The C2000 belt conveyor idler is designed to handle a
variety of light- to medium-weight materials at medium capacities and belt
speeds. It offers a wide range of capabilities for users in pulp and paper,
chemical, sand and gravel, food processing and environmental related
industries.
Like the Link-Belt B2000 idler, the newly redesigned C2000
idler is radically different from competitive belt conveyor
idlers because it incorporates an interference-fit pressed
head design to maintain roll integrity. This pressed head
design uses a ductile iron cast head, which eliminates

series D2000 CEMA D idlers

D2000
Link-Belt® Series D2000 belt conveyor idlers are designed for harsh
applications where loads exceed CEMA C limitations. Exclusive features Contoured end brackets
such as FMC’s pressed head design and new seal technology make the to prevent material wedging
Link-Belt D2000 ball bearing idler fundamentally different from competitive
belt conveyor idlers and permit this idler to exceed CEMA D load ratings.
The D2000’s interference-fit pressed head design is performance
proven to maintain roll integrity. By eliminating welding and its associated
problems such as distortion, misalignment, weld quality, etc., this design
delivers very low T.I.R. (Total Indicator Run Out) values as compared to
welded roll designs. The pressed head design incorporates a ductile iron
cast head which is precision machined for accurate bearing/shaft alignment.
The bearings are placed closer to the support which minimizes shaft slope
and extends bearing life..
The D2000 sealing system prevents contaminants from entering the
bearing cavity of the precision, 30 mm deep groove ball bearings and
eliminates the need for relubrication. The first line of defense is a quad
horizontal labyrinth outer seal that is incorporated into the cast ductile iron
head. A dual lip nitrile rubber inner seal is located deeper inside the roller
which protects it from the outside environment as well as the abrasion and
tearing that commonly results in damage to soft rubber contact elements.
A contact seal on both sides of the ball bearing provides even further pro-
tection from contaminants. The factory-lubricated and sealed ball bearing
eliminates any need for re-lubrication and its associated costs.
Each roller is equipped with a solid C1018 carbon steel shaft for
minimum defection under loads resulting in increased service life.
Rollers and frames are protected from corrosion by a polymeric powder
coating (Corvel Gray) which is applied following a three-stage phosphate
cleaning operation. The finish is then baked on at high temperatures
to provide resistance to abrasive elements. In addition, the head is
zinc plated for maximum corrosion protection.

series D7000 SST II™ CEMA D idlers

D7000
First introduced in 2002, the D7000 SSI™ Tapered Bearing Idler is a quad bearing
belt conveyor idler that delivers significant advancements in technology, quality, per- Higher load
formance, reliability, and value. FMC Technologies’ patented SST design is a totally
new idler and not a modification of any existing product. Since its initial introduction, zero
FMC’s engineers have continued to enhance the original SST design, and in 2004,
the next generation in this revolutionary series, the SST II™ was released. The SST
II delivers significantly longer service life without compromising the significant tech-
nology advancements of the original design.

New Quad Tapered Roller Bearing Technology

Since the introduction of the first SST Idler, FMC has continued
to focus on the importance of bearings in idler roll design. The
result is a new, proprietary bearing developed exclusively
for the D7000 SST II idlers. The new FMC bearing has a
20 percent longer service life than commercially available
quad tapered roller bearings. Used in conjunction with
FMC’s zinc-plated stub shaft, this unique design offers
significantly higher load ratings, impact capabilities and
service life than competitive belt idlers. Ratings exceed
CEMA D standards in all sizes and are constant for all
belt widths, decreasing only by the weight of the roll.
Because shaft slope through the bearings is minimized,
the quad bearing/ stub shaft design also improves ser-
vice life over thru-shaft designs with no reduction of
bearing life under applied loads. The SST Troughed
Idler has load ratings that are 37 percent higher than
CEMA specifications, while the SST Return Idler has
load ratings that are more than five times greater than
CEMA specifications.

Advanced Sealing System

The SST II Idler has an advanced sealing system
that repels contaminants, extends bearing life, and
eliminates the need for relubrication. Extensive labo-
ratory and field testing confirmed that the SST contact
lip seals provide the best protection for the heart of
the idler, but lip seals generate friction that creates drag. FMC’s engineers redesigned D7000 SST II Series Features
the seal to decrease the amount of friction introduced into the idler roll, resulting in a • Sealed Forever

scale idlers
scale idlers
Link-Belt scale idlers are used in conjunction with
mechanical-type weighing devices. They
are available in CEMA D and E series for 20˚,
35˚ or 45˚ troughing installations. In order to pre-
vent load shift and obtain weighing accuracy,
these idlers are fabricated to rigid belt scale
manufacturers specifications:

Roll run-out does not exceed .015” T.I.R.

Footstraps are within .015” of flat surface.
Axis of rolls is +
_ .031” from perpendicular
through center of base. Backing dimension
of center roll is +.000” -.125”. End bracket
is perpendicular to base 90˚+ _ 1˚. Troughing
angle is template checked.

All rolls are factory lubricated and “sealed for life”.

Link-Belt® Series E2000 belt conveyor idlers are designed for harsh,
severe environments such as mining and aggregates, where loads exceed
Contoured end brackets
CEMA D limitations. The Link-Belt E2000 ball bearing idler features exclu-
to prevent material wedging
sive design elements such as FMC’s pressed head design and new seal
technology that make the Link-Belt E2000 ball bearing idler fundamentally
different from competitive belt conveyor idlers, and permit this idler to
exceed CEMA E load ratings.
The E2000 design incorporates a performance-proven, interfer-
ence-fit pressed head to maintain roll integrity. Because welding
and its associated problems such as distortion, misalignment,
weld quality, etc. are eliminated, this design delivers very low
T.I.R. (Total Indicator Run Out) values as compared to welded
roll designs. The pressed head design incorporates a preci-
sion machined, ductile iron cast head for accurate bear-
ing/shaft alignment. The bearings are placed closer to the
support which minimizes shaft slope and extends bearing
life..
The E2000 sealing system prevents contaminants from
entering the 40 mm deep groove ball bearings and elimi-
nates the need for relubrication. The first line of defense is
a quad horizontal labyrinth outer seal that is incorporated
into the cast ductile iron head. A dual lip nitrile rubber inner
seal is located deeper inside the roller where it is shielded
from the outside environment. A contact seal on both sides of
the ball bearing provides even further protection from
contaminants. The factory-lubricated and sealed ball
bearing eliminates any need for re-lubrication and its
associated costs.
Each roller is equipped with a solid C1018 carbon
steel shaft for minimum defection under loads result-
ing in increased service life. Rollers and frames are
protected from corrosion by a polymeric powder
coating (Corvel Gray) which is applied following a
three-stage phosphate cleaning operation. The fin-
ish is then baked on at high temperatures to pro-
vide resistance to abrasive elements. In addition, the
head is zinc plated for maximum corrosion protection.

series E4000 “sealed for life” or regreaseable

E4000
The Link-Belt Series E4000 Idler line features factory lubricated and sealed
for life rolls which eliminate relubrication maintenance costs, thus lowering your
total operating cost. Boasting load ratings which exceed CEMA E requirements,
this rugged idler line is designed for maximum capacity and continuous handling
of the heaviest, coarsest, most abrasive materials, such as coal, iron ore, copper,
large stone and overburden.
Available in 36 to 96-inch belt width, 20, 35, and 45 degree
troughed, positive action training, impact, and return idlers, the
unique design of the E4000S idler provides extended, trouble
free service life for your belt conveyor equipment.
The E4000 rollers and frames are protected from
corrosion by a polymeric powder coating (Corvel Gray)
which is applied following a three-stage phosphate
cleaning operation. The finish is then baked on at
high temperatures to provide resistance to abrasive
elements. Assembly hardware is electro-zinc
plated to ensure extended service.
The Series E4000 rollers, available in both 6
and 7-inch diameters, feature an exclusive, full
length center tube and precision die-formed heads
that are recessed into hot rolled mechanical shells.
The entire unit is then continuously welded roboti-
cally, thus ensuring an integral, airtight unit wherein
contaminants and corrosion cannot enter. This
unrivaled center tube design guarantees perfect
shaft/bearing alignment. Bearing life is increased by
using solid, cold drawn steel shafts to minimize
deflection and increase load ratings.
The redesigned premium quality Delrin triple
horizontal labyrinth outer seal protects the precision
tapered roller bearings in several ways. The outer
deflector cap (flinger) features a 90 degree con-
toured lip to deflect material away from the roll
end. Triple horizontal, greased-filled labyrinths
and nitrile triple lip contact primary seals, along
with rear non-contacting seals, ensure against

series F5000 “sealed for life” idler

F5000With load ratings up to 80 percent higher than standard E4000 Series

idlers, series F5000 idler assemblies are recommended where loads
exceed CEMA E ratings. The heavy duty design which incorporates 1.75-
inch diameter precision tapered roller bearings offers significantly higher
load ratings and impact capabilities than competitive belt idlers. F5000
idlers are available in belt widths from 48- to 120-inches and with rolls of
7- or 8-inches diameter.
The F5000 idlers are sealed for life with a grease filled,
triple horizontal labyrinth seal that repels contaminants,
extends bearing life and eliminates the need for relubri-
cation. The primary seal is a nitrile rubber triple lip
contact member and the rear seal is a non-contact
metallic seal. To resist water, the lubricant used is
a water resistant, grade 2, lithium-based grease.
The F5000 idler features a solid shaft that is
1.75-inches diameter at the bearings. Optional
stepped shafts with diameters of 2- and 2.44-inches
are available.
A polymeric powder coating (Corvel
Gray)protects the F5000 rollers and frames from
corrosion. The coating is applied following a three-
stage phosphate cleaning operation and is then
baked on at high temperatures to provide resis-
tance to abrasive elements. Assembly hardware is
electro-zinc plated to ensure extended service.
The inverted angle frame base of the F5000
idler is constructed of ASTM A-36 steel and is
designed to shed material build-up. Slotted foot-
straps ensure quick, easy mounting and align-
ment. The heavy duty, die-formed, steel end
brackets have a contoured profile and generous
clearances to prevent spilled materials frombe-
coming jammed and impeding the rotation of
the rollers. All idler frames and rolls are
welded in accordance with AWS D1.1
specifications for structural welds.

catenary
series 40,000 and 70,000 catenary belt conveyor idlers
Link-Belt Series 40,000 and 70,000 Catenary Belt Conveyor Idlers combine the proven
capabilities of the Link-Belt roll design with the benefits of a catenary suspension to
form a smooth natural trough and ideal load conveying surface.
Series 40,000 and 70,000 Catenary Idlers are manufactured to withstand heavy
impact at loading and transfer points as required by wide belts through 96-inch width.
Superior performance and proven dependability are the result of rugged roll
construction, exclusive labyrinth seal design and high-capacity
“sealed for life” tapered roller bearings.
Especially suited to loading areas or transfer points in
reclaiming installations where high impact loads must be
absorbed, these catenary idlers have the design and built-in
ability to adjust under varying loading conditions.
The Series 40,000 exclusive outboard seal effectively protects
bearings three ways...a triple lip nitrile rubber primary seal...triple
labyrinth...and grease-filled clearances. This design makes the
idlers impervious to moisture and contaminants, extending idler
life.
The complete line of Link-Belt Series 40,000 Catenary Belt
Conveyor Idlers includes 35˚ 3-roll Troughing Idlers, 55˚ 5-roll Impact
Idlers, and 10˚ and 15˚ 2-roll V-Return Idlers. V-Return Idlers are sup-
plied with steel rolls. This full range of idlers provides the design engineer
with components required to select an efficient material
conveying system.
All Series 40,000 idlers are available for belt widths from 36 up to 96-inch
and can be supplied with either 6 or 7-inch diameter rolls. Prior to shipping, rolls
are protected by a baked on polymeric powder coating.
When load carrying requirements exceed standard limitations, the Series 70,000
Catenary Idler provides more than double the capacity of the Series 40,000
Belt Conveyor Idler.
Catenary Chain Connecting Devices are an economical and effective means for
suspension of 3-roll Troughing Idlers and 2-roll V-Return Idlers. A bar link arrange-
ment for 5-roll Impact Idlers is also available. There are various other Connecting
Devices available for the Link-Belt Catenary Idlers which allow the conveyor designer
complete freedom in choice of support structures. Details can be furnished upon
request. Quick Disconnect Devices for FMC Technologies Catenary Idlers can also
be provided which permit operators to drop an idler out of service without stopping
the conveyor.
Your local FMC Technologies Territory Manager can help you select the
proper Link-Belt Catenary Belt Conveyor Idler to provide long, trouble-free belt
conveyor performance.

belt cleaners
Link-Belt® Scavenger™ belt cleaners
Introducing the “belt-friendly” self-adjusting belt cleaner that outperforms and
outlasts the competition. Link-Belt® Scavenger™ Belt Cleaners feature a patented,
radically different ‘parallelogram’ design that ensures consistent blade-to-belt
pressure and blade-to-belt angle over the full width of the conveyor belt. Easy to
install and maintain, Scavenger belt cleaners will increase belt life while signifi-
cantly reducing downtime related to blade maintenance and replacement.

Principle of Operation
The unique parallelogram design is the key to the
Scavenger’s outstanding belt cleaning capabilities. Individual
parallelogram modules form the cleaning unit which is supported
by a rubber air bladder. Pressurization of the air bladder alters
the angles within each parallelogram module, providing
consistent blade pressure on the belt surface regardless of
blade wear. As wear occurs toward the center of the unit, the
system automatically compensates, and equal blade-to-belt
pressure is maintained across the width of the belt. A pressure
gauge provides a visual indication of blade-to-belt pressure.
The parallelogram design also maintains a constant, pre-determined optimal
blade-to-belt angle regardless of blade wear. The blades are applied to the belt in
such a way as to exploit the flexible properties of rubber; embedded material is
squeezed from the belt rather than scraped, thus preserving both belt and blade
life by eliminating abrasive material before it passes over the blade.

Scavenger™ Belt Cleaner Features

• Precise pressure control for maximizing belt and blade life

• Pre-determined blade-to-belt angle remains constant

• Remote blade pressure monitoring - no mechanical adjustment required

between blade changes

• Extremely long blade service life due to wear-resistant tungsten tipped

blades

• Modular components provide for cost-effective maintenance and

exchange

• Fully compatible with reversible belt systems

Primary Cleaner
Scavenger™ Primary Cleaners provide an efficient, cost-effective cleaning
solution at the head pulley where space for mounting a secondary is at a mini-
mum. Primary cleaners are comprised of multiple blade sections, each
mounted on individual parallelogram modules which together, form the unit.
The modular design maintains optimal blade-to-belt angle regardless of
blade wear.
The Scavenger’s blunt blades are applied to the belt at high pressure to
exploit the flexible properties of rubber such that embedded material is
squeezed from the top cover rather than scraped. The combination of
blunt, wear-resistant, tungsten-tipped blades, applied continuously at
high pressure, maximizes both belt and blade life
by eliminating abrasive material before it
passes over the blade. The shock-tolerant

108
Scavenger system can easily handle mechanical splices and belt reversals,
and is equally effective on fast or slow belts regardless of material
abrasiveness. Scavenger belt cleaners require no mechanical adjustment
between blade changes.

Secondary Cleaner
Scavenger™ Secondary Cleaners remove residual
material on the conveyor belt top cover as it returns
from the head pulley. Secondary cleaners are
mounted at or beyond the point where the belt
leaves the pulley, an added advantage because
the belt is not bent over the radius which can
New Blade Worn Blade
expose plies, steel cords or tears in the belt.
Secondary units provide all the same advantages as the
primary cleaner, plus they are fail-safe by design. The
Scavenger Secondary Cleaner is so effective in the majority of
installations that pre-cleaning by a primary cleaner is not required.
In demanding conditions, a secondary and tertiary (which is the
same unit as the secondary) configuration is recommended over
a primary and secondary configuration.
Wear-resistant polypropylene
Manual or Automatic Air Pressure Maintenance
deflectors protect the unit from
The Link-Belt® Scavenger™ belt cleaner is an independent,
abrasive material
stand-alone unit. Once the Scavenger is installed, all that is
required to maintain the correct blade-to-belt pressure is the
periodic addition of air into the bladder. A manual air pump is
supplied with all Scavenger units.
Complete hands-off maintenance of the pressure within the air
bladder is also possible with the addition of an automatic pressure
regulator which maintains the optimum pre-determined air pressure
through a combination of a pressure regulator and a relief valve. With
this configuration, no manual adjustment or pressurization of the
cleaner is required between installation and blade replacement.
If the on-site air pressure supply is intermittent, the pressure
regulator has a non-return valve that ensures that pressure cannot
be lost from the air bladder. Where necessary, air filters and moisture
traps ensure a constant supply of dry, uncontaminated air.

No-Load Device
When a belt is running but not conveying material, there is no
reason for the belt cleaning system to be activated. An optional
No-Load Device is available that uses ultrasonic sensing technology
to detect no load conditions and remove pressure from the bladder
as long as the belt runs dry. This avoids unnecessary mechanical
and thermal wear to both the belt and the cleaning system.
Operation of the Scavenger No-Load Device is completely
hands-off.

Clip Avoidance System

The Link-Belt® Scavenger™ System is excep-
tionally accommodating of mechanical joints
because of these features:

• Non-aggressive blade angle

• Blunt, leading-edge blade

• Parallelogram-mounted blade that moves
back and down with minimum resistance

To further enhance blade and mechanical joint life, the

Scavenger Clip-Avoidance System detects the mechanical joint
using an inductive sensor and momentarily reduces pressure in
the air bladder, allowing the joint to pass over the cleaner blades
with a minimum of resistance and interference.

is fabricated from round bar stock to reduce the frame weight by 50%. An
added benefit of this truss frame design is a 40% increase in load rating as
compared to the conventional CEMA D inverted angle frame. The design of
the frame, with rounded surfaces and the lowest roll gap available (.25 mm),
ensures against costly material spillage buildup around the idler that may
impede production. The Link-Belt Truss Idler is available in a variety of
materials; #304SS, #316SS and, of course, carbon steel. This is espe-
cially critical in today’s markets for the handling of harsh chemicals,
phosphate, salt, acids and many other corrosive materials that tend to
shorten the life of your equipment. For these caustic applications we
complete the offering by placing premium HDPE Polyethylene
rollers into the stainless steel or carbon steel frame. The polyethyl-
ene rollers greatly extend the life of your belt conveyor equipment

DISASSEMBLY

The Cam-Loc™ segmental impact idler

features three idler rolls mounted individu-
ally on segments that are free to move
along the slider base. The slider base is
made of a support frame with a cam shaft
mounted internally, extending the length
of the base. The cam shaft lobes are
located directly under each end of the
idler segments.

114
...easier installation, roll replacement
and maintenance

The idler segments can be raised or

lowered by rotating the cam shaft 180˚.
A 180˚ rotation will lift the idler seg-
ments, causing them to be clamped
into place. A 180˚ rotation in the oppo-
site direction will lower the idler seg-
ments 1/2-inch, allowing them to slide
along the slider base. Once the idler is
lowered, the adjacent idlers support the
conveyor weight and the idler segments
can be easily removed for servicing.

impact slider system
FMC Technologies now offers a super efficient, simple to install, modular,

slider
Impact Slider System that solves your heavy loading problems while reducing
wear and tear on the belt, minimizing downtime, and increasing productivity.
The FMC Technologies Impact Slider System premier design begins with
FMC’s CEMA C/D or E heavy duty impact idler frame, featuring demountable
end brackets, solid steel
reinforcing plates welded underneath cross angles, and steel gusset plates
welded to the center brackets on both sides, for unparalleled strength.
Custom designed steel roll replacement inserts fit snugly in each idler
frame. The inserts are slotted to accept the T-bolts that
securely connect the impact bars to the inserts. One
person can easily mount the solid, one-piece impact
bars to the inserts to complete the system.
The 3-inch thick impact bars are designed and man-
ufactured utilizing premium 3/8-inch UHMW top covers

alignment
conveyor belt alignment

A belt conveyor which is properly designed, constructed, erected, and maintained

theoretically will consistently run true without concern for belt misalignment. However, in
actuality, properly aligned belts are normally the exception rather than the rule. The following
belt training troubleshooting guide is provided to assist you in your efforts to correct belt
misalignment problems that invariably lead to premature failure of belting, idlers, and pulleys.
Please follow these steps to ensure satisfactory performance of your belt conveyors:

1. Square and level the head and tail pulleys with their axis at 90 degrees to the intended path of the
belt.
2. Square all carrying and return idlers with the conveyor frame during the belt conveyor installation,
be sure the idlers are in line and lie in the same horizontal plane, and secure all attachment bolts.
3. Level all frames to ensure a cross-section parallel to the ground plane. If one side of the conveyor
frame is lower than the other, gravity will force the belt off-center.
4. The belt must be straight and the belt splice square. If side creep occurs only in the vicinity of the
belt splice, the splice may not be square with the belt. In general, if detraining follows the belt
movement, there is a problem with the belt. If it remains in one general vicinity, there are other
problems with the conveyor. Some new belts may tend to wander to one side, in a certain
position or portions of their length, because of temporary lateral mal-distributions of tension.
Operation of the belt under tension corrects this condition in practically all cases. Use of
self-aligning idlers will aid in making the correction.
5. The belt should make constant contact with all troughed idler rollers.
6. Conveyed material should always be centrally loaded onto the belt by means of chutework,
loading hoppers, skirtboarding, etc.

There may be occasion when the above procedure is not sufficient and the belt detrains to
one side. The following corrective measures may be initiated to prevent side movement:

1. While running the belt at the lowest speed possible, find the point of maximum side motion. The
idler preceding this point along the direction of belt travel can be adjusted to minimize side
movement. The belt may be centered by pivoting, or “knocking” ahead (in the direction of belt
travel) the end of the idler to which the belt runs. Shifting idlers in this way should be spread over
some length of the conveyor preceding the region of trouble. Once the belt is centered, increase
belt speed and load the belt with material. Continue adjusting until normal operating conditions do
not cause the belt to misalign.
2. Recheck pulley alignment to ensure that they are level and with their axes at 90 degrees to the
intended path of the belt. Head and tail pulleys should not be shifted in an effort to center the belt
with the exception of the snub pulleys which may have their axes shifted when other training
measures have failed.
3. Training idlers are not intended to compensate for a belt that has been poorly aligned, or to
correct for off-center loading conditions. However, both troughed training and return training
positive action idlers are recommended for lengthy conveyors to assist in correcting and
recentering occasional wandering belts. They should normally be located 50 feet from terminal
pulleys and spaced 50 to 100 feet. Free rotation of the trainer’s vertical actuating rolls is
essential for proper operation of the idler. Please refer to the index page 103 in this publication
for FMC Technologies model numbers and complete dimensional information regarding Link-Belt
positive action training idlers.
4. Recheck conveyor belt to verify that all splices are correct and square.
5. If the above steps do not resolve the belt training issues, the conveyor should be laser aligned
and corrective action taken based upon the survey data.
