Windows Server 2012 Configuration

Configure the Local Server


In the bottom right corner > right click the computer icon
• then click Open Network and Sharing Center
• Change advance sharing settings
• turn on all network discovery in Private (current profile) section
• in Guest or Public section turn on network discovery and turn on file and printer sharing
• then in All Networks section turn on sharing then turn off password protected sharing
• Save changes

Go to Server > Click on the No. 1


• Change Time Zone and Date and Time
Find Time zone > Click blued text > Click Change time zone... > Click the box bellow
Time zone Find (UTC+08:) Kuala Lumpur, Singapore > Then Click > Click OK > Click
Change date and time... > Change the Date and Time > Click OK > OK
• And Date and Time
• Configure IPv4

Find Ethernet > Click blued text > Right click ethernet > properties > double click
Internet Protocol Version 4(TCP/IPv4 > Click Use the following IP address >

IP Address: ex. 192.168.0.2


Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 (it will automatically add)
Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1 (the default must be the ip address of the router)
------
Preferred DNS server 192.168.0.2
Leave the Alternate DNS server empty

Click OK > OK > Close Tab

• Turn off Windows Firewall

Find Windows Firewall > Click blued text > Click Turn Windows Firewall on or off >
Click Turn off Windows Firewall in Private and Public network settings > Click OK >

Close Tab

• Allow Remote Desktop Connection

Find Remote Desktop > Click blued text > Click Allow remote connections to this

computer > uncheck Allow connections only from computers > Apply > OK

• Change Computer Name

Find Computer name > Click blued text > Click Change... > Type the Computer name:
ex. Server > Click OK > OK > Close > Restart Now
Adding Roles to the Server
Go to Server Manager > Click on the No. 2 (Add roles and features)
• Click Next --> Next --> Next

Install the following Roles


• Check Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS)
--> Click Add Features

• Check DHCP Server


--> Click Add Features

• Check DNS Server


--> Click Add Features

• Check Print and Document Services


--> Click Add Features

• Check Remote Desktop Services


Next -->

• Scroll down and find and check the box of Windows Server Backup
Next --> Next --> Next --> Next --> Next -->

• Check Remote Desktop Session Host


--> Click Add Features

Next --> Next --> Next

• Check Restart the destination server automatically if required


• Click Yes
• Click Install

- If it did not automatically restart? just restart it


• After the restart the Username will be Administrator

Configuring the AD DS
After the computer rebooted, the installation will continue. Wait for the installation to
finished then;

• Click "Close"

• On Top Left go to the Notification panel (Look for the yellow warning sign) > Click
"Promote this server to a domain controller"

• Select "Add new forest" > Type your root domain name into the Root Domain Name field
NOTE: The Root Domain Name will depend on the Assessor but in default
ex. "server.com or .local and .net"
Click Next >

• Select a Domain and Forest functional level it will be Windows Server 2012 R2. Once
selected, fill in a DSRM password in the provided password fields. The DSRM password
is used when booting the Domain Controller into recovery mode

• Next --> Next --> Next --> Next --> Next

• Install
Wait for the installation to finished then the computer will restart itself
After promoting the Server to a Domain Controller, go back to the notification panel and
click Complete DHCP Configuration

• Click "Next"

• Select "Use the following user's credentials"

• Click "Commit"

• Close
Implementing
DHCP Scope to
• Go to upper right corner then find Tools --> DHCP

• expand or double click the the domain to see the IPv4

• Right-click IPv4 --> New Scope

• Next --> Enter Scope name (ex. Server Scope)

• Next

• Enter the starting IP Address ex. 192.168.0.3 which is the ip address of your client

• Enter the ending IP Address ex. 192.168.0.10

• Next --> Next --> Next

• Select "No, I will configure this option later"

• Next --> Finish

Creating
Users OU's, Group &
• Go to upper right corner then find tools --> Active Directory Users and Computers

• Expand or double click the domain name

• Right-click on the domain name --> Select "New" --> "Organizational Unit"

Note: Right here the Organizational Unit, it also depends on the assessor how many OU
he/she will let you make but in default you will only make (two) Organizational Unit
ex. Teacher and Student

• Right-click the created OU --> "New" --> "User" -->

Note: In the Organizational Unit which is the Teacher and Student, both Add/Create
atleast (two) names for both Teacher and Student ex. Juan then Click Next add a
password any password but i suggest use the last name. But this will also depend on the
Assessor how many User he/she will let you create.
• Add the First name box only and put the First name you created in User logon name" -->
Click Next --> fill in the password and confirm the password
Note: the password format is alpha numeric it contains big and small letters and also
numbers ex. Delacruz12345

• Uncheck the first box --> Check the second and third box --> Next --> Finish

File Sharing - Folder


Redirection
• Create a folder on Desktop
Rename the folder anything you like

• Right-click the created folder and rename it Folder Redirection --> Properties

• Under properties, Go to Sharing --> Click "Share" Add Everyone , change its
permission level into Read/Write

• Click "Share" --> Done

• Proceed to "Advanced sharing" --> Check Share this folder --> Click on Permissions --
> Add the users you created Click Add ex. Juan --> Then Click Check Names --> Then
Click OK --> check full control of each added users

• Click Apply --> OK


Do the same for your other Users

• Go to Security --> Click Edit --> Click Add --> Enter all the users you have created
including domain users --> Check Names --> OK --> check full control of recently
added users --> Click Apply --> OK --> Apply --> OK
Note: Do the same to the other Users

• Go back to Sharing --> Copy the Network Path (this is Above the Share.. Button) -->
Click Close

• Go back to server Manager --> Go to tools --> Group Policy Management

• Expand or double click Forest --> Expand or double click Domains --> Expand or
double click the Domain name

• Right-click one of the OU's you have created --> Click Create a GPO in this Domain,
and name it as "Folder Redirection" --> Click OK

• Right-click the GPO you have created --> click Edit

• Go to User Configuration --> Expand or double click Policies -->Expand or double


click Windows settings --> Expand or double click Folder Redirection

• Look for Desktop --> Right-click --> Properties

• Change "Not Configured" into "Basic - Redirected everyone's folder to the...."

• Paste the copied network path into "Root Path" field --> Click Apply --> Yes -->OK -->
Close the Group Policy Management Editor tab

• Under desktop properties, Go to Settings --> unchecked the first checkbox --> check the
third checkbox --> Change its policy removal into "Redirect the folder..."

• Click Apply --> OK

• Go back to Group Policy Management tab --> Right Click the other OU's --> Click
"Link an Existing GPO" --> find the "Folder Redirection" and Highlight--> Click OK.

Note: do this to the remaining OU's


Installing Printer Drivers
• Connect the Printer to the Server PC

• Go to Control Panel --> Select Hardware --> Devices and Printers

• Click Add Printer --> Click "The printer that I want isn't listed"

• Select "Add local printer or network printer with manual settings" --> Select "Use an
existing port" --> Change LPT1 in USB --> Click Next

• Plug-in your flashdrive that contains printer drivers into the system unit of the server -->
click "Have Disk" --> Click "Browse" --> Look for printer driver in the inserted
flashdrive

• After the installation of the driver, go back to devices and printers --> Right-click the
recently installed printer --> Printer Properties

• Under printer properties, go to sharing --> Check share this printer --> Check List in
directory

• Under printer properties. go to security --> Click "Add" --> Enter all the users you
created

• Click Apply --> OK

Printer Sharing - Printer


Deployment
• Go to Tools --> Print Management

• Click "All Printers" --> Select the printer you have installed recently --> Right-click -->
Click Deploy with group policy --> Click "Browse"

• Select an OU ex. (css.server.com) --> OK

• Right-click on the blank area --> Click "New", name it as "Printer Deployment" --> Click
OK

• Check the first checkbox (per user) click "Add"

• Click Apply --> OK

• Go to group policy management --> Right-click the remaining OU's --> Click "Link an
existing GPO" --> Select Printer Deployment
Turn off the firewall before you proceed to Windows 10

Windows 10
Configuration
In the bottom right corner > right click the computer icon
• then click Open Network and Sharing Center
• Change advance sharing settings
• turn on all network discovery in Private(current profile) section
• in Guest or Public section turn on network discovery and turn on file and printer
sharing
• then in All Networks section turn on sharing then turn off password protected
sharing
• Save changes

• Change Time Zone


At the Bottom Right Corner Right Click the date and time > Click Adjust
Date/Time > Turn off "Set time automatically and Set time zone
automatically" > In the Time zone Scroll down and find (UTC +8:00) Kuala,
Lumpur > Next Click "Change date and time" then change the todays date >
Close the Tab

• Configure IPv4
At the Bottom Right Corner Right Click the "Computer Icon" > Click "Open
Network and Sharing Center" > Click "Change adapter settings" > Right
Click "Ethernet" > Properties > Double Click Internet Protocol Version 4
(TCP/IPv4) > Select "Use the following IP address"
IP Address: ex. 192.168.0.3
NOTE: Server must be above the client ex. 192.168.0.1 this is the default gateway and so
the server must be 192.168.0.2 and the client will be 192.168.0.3
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 (it will automatically add)
Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1 (the default must be the ip address of the router)
------
Preferred DNS server 192.168.0.2 (the Preferred DNS will be always the server IP

Leave the Alternate DNS server empty

• Turn off Windows Firewall

Press "Windows Key"> Search "Windows Firewall" > Press Enter > Click

Turn Windows Firewall on or off > Click Turn off Windows Firewall in Private

and Public network settings > Click OK > Close Tab

• Allow Remote Desktop Connection

Press "Windows Key"> Search "File Explorer" > Right Click "This PC" >
Click "Properties" > Click "Remote Settings" > Click Allow remote

connections to this computer > uncheck Allow connections only from computers

> Apply > OK

• Change Computer Name

Press "Windows Key"> Search "File Explorer" > Right Click "This PC" >
Click "Properties" > Click "Change Settings" > Click "Change" > Type the
Computer name: ex. Client > Click OK > OK > Close > Restart Now
After the computer rebooted, check the connectivity by executing the ping command

• To use Ping Command Click Windows Key + R > Then type CMD then press
ENTER
• then type ping 192.168.0.2 which is the IP adress of the Server
• if you get a reply from the server? you are good to go
If the pinging was successfully finished, you can now connect this computer to a domain

• Press "Windows Key"> Search "Control Panel" --> Click Control Panel -->
Select "System and Security" --> Look for "System"

• Under system --> Click "Change settings" --> Click "Change"

• Select Domain --> Enter Domain name --> Login your your Domain with User
and Password --> Then Click OK --> OK --> Close --> Restart Now
After that, you will need to restart the computer
After the computer rebooted, go back to control panel > System and Security >
System > Change settings > Look for remote

• Under remote, Click Select Users --> Add all the users you have created in server
one by one --> Click Add --> then enter the user one by one --> Click Check
Names --> if it requires to Enter network credentials? just login the user and
password of your Server --> Then click OK -- After you add all the User? Click
OK --> OK
NOTE: Do the same on the Server PC

• Sign out
• Log in as Other User--> Enter the log in credentials of one of the users you have
created ex. (Username: dient , Password: **************)

Windows Server Backup


• Go to Client PC Create a folder in Desktop > Open the folder > Right Click >
New > Text Document

• Go to Server PC Open Server Manager > Tools > Scroll down find and click
Windows Server Backup > Local Backup > Find Backup Once... in the right
side and click

• Next > Select Custom > Next > Add Items > Double Click Local Disk (C:) >
Users > Administrator > Desktop > Theres a Box on the left side of the folder
you created Check it > Click OK

• Next > Next > Change Recovery Into Local Disk (D:)

• Next > Backup

• to check if the Back up is working? delete the folder you created in the Client
Desktop > Delete it also in the Recycle Bin

• Now go to Server PC and in the right side Click Recover...

• Next > Next > Next > Expand the Server folder until you find Desktop

• Next > Next > Recover > Close

• Now Check the Desktop on Client PC if the Folder you deleted is recovered

Adding Printer
Client PC to the
• Go to control panel --> Look for "View Devices and Printers"
• Click "Add Printer"
• Wait for a while until the shared printer shows up --> Click the shared printer to
install
You are Almost Done!!
Perform the following:

• create any file on desktop in your client


note: The created file in your client must redirected to the created folder in your
server.
• Remote Desktop Connection

Well Done!!!
