IT 101 Midterm Project

This document provides instructions for an IT 101 midterm project. Students will work in groups of up to 3 people. The project involves identifying a platform, evaluating it based on HCI principles and guidelines, and redesigning it if needed. Students must create a high-fidelity prototype and documentation. The prototype and documentation will be graded based on rubrics assessing consistency, navigation, feedback, responsiveness, readability, visual appeal, and engagement. Individual scores will be calculated based on peer and self-evaluations of each group member's contribution.

IT 101 MIDTERM PROJECT

DIRECTION:
1. Identify one platform (website, mobile/desktop app, etc.).
2. Evaluate and Assess the chosen platform based on the HCI principle, theories, and guidelines.
3. Redesign the platform (if based on the assessment, the platform does not need redesigning, then
identify other platform and repeat steps 1,2,3)
Group composition: Maximum of 3 students of the same section
Deadline: Last day of Midterm Examination Week (Saturday)
Expected Outputs:
1. High Fidelity Prototype  link can be access by anyone, if not possible then share to
[email protected]
2. Documentation  for specific content, refer to the next page of this document

High Fidelity Prototype: 28 * 2 = 48 pts

Highest Possible Score: Documentation: 52 pts
TOTAL: 100pts

Peer Grading (Individual Scoring):

Each student will rate his/her groupmates and self-rate based on the contribution in the format of %.
Minimum of 1% and maximum is 100%. The individual score will be calculated based on the equation given:
PG 1+ PG 2+ SG
IS=GS∗( ∗0.01)
3
 where GS is the total score received by the group;
 where PG1 and PG2 is the Peer Grade given by group members, and SG is the grade you given to your self
 where IS the total individual score the student will receive
PLATFORM EVALUATION AND REDESIGN CHALLENGE
IT 101 - Midterm Project

Platform Name:
Platform Homepage:
Proposed Design: Prototype Link

Evaluators: Student 1, Student 2, Student 3

Section:

I. About the Platform (2 pts)

*should contain a brief background of the platform. Must answer the following:
 What is the purpose of the platform and the services it provides?
 Why the platform was created?
 Other important information that helped you to evaluate the site
*do not copy-paste the platform description and functionality (rephrase)

II. Task Modeling and Human Problem-Solving Model (10 pts)

*create the current TM and HP-S model of the current platform
*create the proposed TM and HP-S model (if any); kindly specify the changes created (if any)

III. Principle of HCI (10 pts)

*define the attributes of the platform that adhere to or do not adhere to the principle of HCI. Show evidence such as
screenshots and/or narration.

IV. HCI Guidelines (10 pts)

*select at least one suitable guideline crafted by several organizations. Here are some notable HCI standard
1. ISO 9241: Ergonomics of Human-System Interaction Series
2. ISO 14915: Software ergonomics for multimedia user interfaces
3. ISO 13407: Human-centered design processes for interactive systems
4. ISO 16071: Graphical symbols for use on equipment
5. ISO 20282: Ease of operation of everyday products
6. W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)
7. IEEE 830: Software Requirements Specification
8. ISO/IEC 25010: Systems and software engineering — Systems and software Quality Requirements and
Evaluation (SQuaRE) — System and software quality models

10. ISO 6385: Ergonomic principles in the design of work systems

V. Predictive Performance Assessment using GOMS (Goals, Operators, Methods,

Selection) (10 pts)
*create the GOMS to all applicable interactions

VI. High Fidelity Prototype (10 pts)

*first column should be the current interface, while the second column is the proposed new interface design
*should be comprehensively labeled and arrangement of the snippet reflects the TM and HP-S model in section II.
