 Medicine Entry Requirements
A-LEVELS/ AS-LEVELS
All requirements are correct as of September 2022 but may be subject to minor change and the approval of the Higher
Education Council of Bahrain.

5 Year Programme
DIRECT ENTRY
Required Subjects Three A-Level subjects. They must include Chemistry and at least one additional lab
science (Biology or Physics). The third A-Level can be Biology, Physics, Mathematics or psychology. You must
also have a minimum six GCSEs or equivalent (including English and Maths).
Minimum Grade A,B,B or A,A,C. You must also have a minimum C/4 in GCSE English and Maths.
English language requirements Minimum Grade C/4 in GCSE English or an IELTS Academic minimum of
6.5 overall (minimum 6.0 in any band) or TOEFL equivalent.

6 Year Programme
FOUNDATION YEAR
Required Subjects Three A-Levels from the following; Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics. You
must also have a minimum six GCSEs or equivalent (including English and Maths).
Minimum Grade B,C,C. If you have three A Levels but only two of the required subjects (as shown above) you
will need a minimum B,B,C or A,C,C (with one of the required subjects at minimum grade B).
You must also have a minimum C/4 in GCSE English and Maths.
English language requirements Minimum Grade C/4 in GCSE English or an IELTS Academic minimum of
6.0 overall (minimum 5.0 in any band) or TOEFL equivalent.

MEDICAL COMMENCEMENT PROGRAMME (MCP)

Required Subjects Four AS-Levels. They must include three of the following; Biology, Chemistry, Physics and
Mathematics. You must also have a minimum six GCSEs or equivalent (English and Maths).
Minimum Grade A,A,B,B. You must also have a minimum C/4 in GCSE English and Maths.
English language requirements Minimum Grade C/4 in GCSE English or an IELTS Academic minimum of
5.0 overall (minimum 4.5 in any band) or TOEFL equivalent.
Applicants who do not meet the 6 year programme minimum requirements for A-Levels, may be
considered for entry to the MCP by the Admissions Committee on a case by case basis.

Applicants who present GCE A-Levels without GCSEs must present evidence of completion of equivalent education level in
another school system.
Applicants applying with AS-Levels must have exited school after AS-Levels and cannot have continued on to A-Level.

6 Year Programme
FOUNDATION YEAR
Required Subjects You need to study the Science stream with competitive grades in the following;
Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics . You must also take the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SATs).
Minimum Grade You need a minimum cGPA of 92% (or 3.60 out of a 4.0 scale) calculated over Grades 10, 11
and 12. You will also need an SAT score of 1050 from 1600 (must include a minimum score of 500 from 800 in
Evidence-Based Reading & Writing and 550 from 800 in Math).
English language requirements An IELTS Academic minimum of 6.0 overall (minimum 5.0 in any band) or
TOEFL equivalent.

MEDICAL COMMENCEMENT PROGRAMME (MCP)

Required Subjects You need to study the Science stream including three of the following subjects; Biology,
Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics .
Minimum Grade You need a minimum cGPA of 90% (or 3.50 out of a 4.0 scale) calculated over Grades 10, 11
and 12.
English language requirements An IELTS Academic minimum of 5.0 overall (minimum 4.5 in any band) or
TOEFL equivalent.

Bridging Year to 3rd Level education. It is a 1-year course that upon completion would facilitate entry into the 6
Year Foundation Programme.

INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE
(IB) DIPLOMA

5 Year Programme
DIRECT ENTRY
Required Subjects You need to study six subjects in total. Three Standard Level subjects (SL) and Three
Higher Level (HL) subjects. Higher Level subjects must include Two of the following; Biology, Chemistry,
Physics and Mathematics (all types are accepted). However, IF Mathematics is presented at Higher Level,
another science subject (as shown above) must be presented at Standard Level (SL).
Minimum Grade You need a minimum score of 35 IB Diploma points (inclusive of bonus points).
English language requirements Minimum score 5 in SL (IB) English or an IELTS Academic minimum of 6.5
overall (minimum 6.0 in any band) or TOEFL equivalent.

6 Year Programme
FOUNDATION YEAR
Required Subjects You need to study six subjects in total. Three Standard Level subjects (SL) and three
Higher Level (HL) subjects. Subjects must include English, Mathematics (all types are accepted) and at least
one laboratory science subject (Biology, Chemistry and Physics).
Minimum Grade You need a minimum score of 30 IB Diploma points (inclusive of bonus points).

overall (minimum 5.0 in any band) or TOEFL equivalent.

MEDICAL COMMENCEMENT PROGRAMME (MCP)

If you do not meet the 6 year programme minimum requirements for IB, you may be considered for entry to the
MCP by the Admissions Committee on a case-by-case basis.

TOEFL equivalent.

6 Year Programme

Required Subjects You need to study three AP subjects from the following; Biology, Chemistry, Physics and
