Di-Phenyl Methane

Diphenylmethane can be synthesized through two main reactions: 1) the Friedel-Crafts reaction of benzyl chloride and benzene, and 2) reducing benzophenone with HI/P. It undergoes several characteristic chemical reactions including oxidation to benzophenone, reduction to fluorene, nitration, and bromination. Diphenylmethane is a white solid with the molecular formula C13H12 that consists of two isolated benzene rings connected by a methylene bridge. It has medicinal uses as an antispasmodic, antiulcer, antihistamine, and antianxiety agent.
