HOMEWORK

1. Trees play an important role in moderating climate effects and improving environmental quality by producing oxygen, improving air quality, and supporting wildlife. However, deforestation is a major driver of global warming as trees that absorb carbon dioxide are destroyed. 2. Trees are cut down for wood products like buildings and paper, and forests are cleared for farming and grazing land. 3. Deforestation contributes significantly to rising global temperatures and the climate crisis by reducing our ability to trap greenhouse gases through photosynthesis. As more forests are destroyed, the world will experience more severe climate impacts like droughts, fires, and storms.

Task 1:
1. Trees control climate by moderating the effects of the sun, rain and
wind. Trees also contribute to our environment by providing
oxygen, improving air quality, climate amelioration, conserving
water, preserving soil, and supporting wildlife. During the process
of photosynthesis, trees take in carbon dioxide and produce the
oxygen we breathe.
2. Trees are cut down for wood that can be burned or used to make
things, such as buildings, furniture, or paper. Large areas of trees
are removed so that the land can be used to grow crops or to
provide places where farm animals can graze.
3. Deforestation is a major contributor to global warming and the
climate emergency. As more forests are destroyed, so too is our
ability to trap these greenhouse gases and slow rising temperatures
around the world which cause droughts, forest fires, and more
frequent hurricanes and typhoons.

2. Ten years → two or three years
3. The U.S → Texas
4. Protects→ destroys
5. Oxygen→ carbon dioxide
6. Small-scale→ large-scale
Task 5:
1. Industrial logging opens up forests in order to extract the most
economically valuable trees, leaving behind a trail of roads and
destruction.
Commercial farming: a farming method that involves growing crops,
raising livestock, selling produce on the market, and making money.
→ Farmers making money without the worry of terrible consequences
for the environment.
2. This would affect the air quality and temperature leading to the global
warming process.
The gradual decrease in rainfall would increase the pest and infection
and less water will minimize the resources of sowing and maintaining
crops.
3. Deforestation causes the loss of habitats and damage to land where plants
and animal species live, leading to the extinction of many species, which
supplies food and medicine ingredients for people.
Task 6:
1. As the world’s climate changes, places sụch as Argentina and Northwest
Passange will have too much water. And places such as Africa, India and
Australia will become drier.
2. Both the melting of the glaciers and deforestation can cause the extinction
of numerous species because it destroy the natural habitat of a number of
animal and plants, both terrestrial and aquatic.

WRITING
CRITICAL THINKING
Task 1:
- Commercial farming by big business⇒ deforestation
- Deforestation⇒ heavy erosion
- Heavy erosion⇒ Flooding in heavy rain
Task 2:
CO2 enters atmosphere and traps heat (greenhouse effect) ⇒ Global
warming ⇒ Less rain ⇒Forests dry out ⇒Fires ⇒ More CO2 emissions
Task 4:
- Human cut down trees to provide land for food ⇒ the amount of
CO2 increases
- The amount of CO2 increases ⇒ Plants are producing more pollen
- Plants are producing more pollen ⇒ more cases of asthma, a medical
condition that make it hard to breathe
