different angles it cover different distance when it is
projected or releases at the angle of 30 degree making a
parabolic path, it covers less distance when it is
projected at the angle of 60 degree distance, it covers the
distance, when it release at the angle of 45° making a
parabolic path it cover the maximum distance.
Scientifically it can be said that the angle of 45 degree is
the best angle for achieving maximum distance.

2.Initial velocity :- The distance covered by an object

depends on the initial velocity of the projectile. If the
initial velocity is more, the object covers maximum
distance. On the other hand, if initial velocity is less, the
object covers less distance.

3.Gravity :- It is the force of attraction exerted by the

earth towards its centre on a body or an object. The

greater weight of an object, the greater the influence of
gravity upon it. Gravity a projectile as it decreased the
height of projectile that can be obtain.

4.Air resistance :- When a projectile move through the

air, it is slowed down by air resistance. Air resistance
decreases the horizontal component of a projectile.
There are following factors which are related to the
amount of air resistance acting on a projectile:-:-

5.Surface of the object

6. Surface to volume ratio
7. Mass
8. Speed.

35. Ans. Basal metabolicRate(BMR)andRestingMetabolicRate(RMR) are 2+3
the terms usually used interchangeably. These terms are very
similar;however, there is a slight difference between BMR and RMR.
(i) BasalMetabolicrate.Basal metabolic rate is minimum number
ofcalories a person needs to sustain his basic life functions, should they
rest for the entire24hours of a day.It is accurately measured in
labsetting.
(ii) Resting metabolic rate. Resting metabolic rate is an estimate of the
numberof calories a person burns during a period of inactivity or rest. It
is usually measured in the morning before you eat or exercise and after
full night soundsleep.
BMR was introduced to the world by James Arthur Harris and Francis Gano
Benedict. So, the equation is popularly known as the Harris-Benedict formula.
A new equation was formulated in 1990, which is known as the Mifflin-St.
George equation.
Women: P- (9.99 × m/1kg) + (6.25 × h/1cm) – (5 × a/1years) – 161
P= total energy output during rest(BMR)
M= weight of the person in kgs.
H= height of the concerned person
A= age of the incumbent
S= constant which is +5 for males and -161 for females
Example- If a 55 year old woman‘s body weight is 59 kg and her height is 168
cm, her BMR will be 1204 calories per day with this equation.
36. Friction is the force acting along two surfaces in contact which opposes the 1+4
motion of one body over the other. It has very importance in sports. For
example when a cricket ball or hockey ball is hit it moves very fast in the
direction of force in the ground. After sometimes its motion becomes less and
ultimately it comes in static position.
Advantages
Friction has a great significance in the field of sports. Many sports require more
friction and other need lesser friction. In some sports we can not give a better
performance without friction. For example in athletics the shoes are designed to
increase friction so that better speed can be generated.
The spikes have small nails to crease the friction. Gymnasts sometimes use lime
on their palms to perform on horizontal bar uneven bars to increase friction. In
these sports friction is necessary thus regarded as advantageous.
Disadvantages
On the other hand some games do not require friction. For example the games
like snow skiing the skis are designed to have minimum friction. In cycling there
should not be more friction between road and tyres of the cycle. Thus the tyre
should be fully inflated to reduce the force of friction. If there is more friction it
will be more wastage of energy of the cyclist. Moreover the cyclists use pointed

helmets silk body fitted costume and bend their bodies while cycling to reduce
air friction.
Swimmers use goggles cap and full body swimsuit to reduce the force of
friction caused by water. In roller skating less friction is also needed for better
performance. Thus in these games friction is regarded as disadvantageous.
37. Endurance is the ability to do sports movements with the desired quality and 1+4
speed under conditions of fatigue.
Endurance in sports are of different types. These are as follows –
Endurance

Basic endurance is the ability of an individual to do the movement in which

large no. of body muscles involve at slow pace for a long duration such as
walking, jogging, swimming at a moderate speed. General endurance is the
ability of an individual to do movement under the condition of fatigue.
Specific endurance is the ability of an individual to complete the task without
any fatigue. It‘s requirement is depends upon the nature of activity (games and
sports). Requirement of specific endurance of a boxer is different from that of a
wrestler.
Speed endurance is the ability of an individual to perform a movement with
high speed under the condition of fatigue upto 45 seconds. In short terms
endurance, the activity lasts from 45 seconds to 2 minutes. Ex. 800m race.
The medium time endurance is needed for 1500m race, lasting from 2 min to
11 minutes.
Long term endurance is needed for those sports which require more than 11
minutes time. Ex. 5000m to 10000m race.

20 1. Nutritive components (1+1)

Nutritive components of diet are those components which
contribute or provide energy to the body. The nutritive
components of diet are proteins, carbohydrates, fats,
vitamins and minerals.
2. Non-nutritive components
Non - nutritive components of diet are those components
that do not contribute to provide energy or nutrition to the
body . Some non - nutritive components like roughage ,
water , plant compounds are essential for healthy living

21 1.Self - esteem: Physical activities are beneficial for (1+1)

children with special needs because such activities develop
a sense of self - esteem and self - confidence. As a matter
of fact, interaction and involvement with other students in
physical activities help to give children a sense of
accomplishment and confidence.

22 EFFECTS OF EXERCISES ON MUSCULAR SYSTEM (0.5*4)

When we do regular exercise , some permanent changes take
place in our muscular system . These changes occur only when
exercises are performed daily . If we do exercise only once ,
there will be changes in our muscular system but only for a
temporary phase . Following changes in our muscular system
can be seen if exercises are done on regular basis .

1. Change in Shape and Size of Muscle : Through regular

exercise , the shape and size of muscle is changed . In fact ,
cells of muscles are enlarged which change the shape and size
of the muscle .
2. Formation of More Capillaries : When exercises are done ,
the colour of muscles is changed , because a number of new
capillaries are formed for a better and efficient blood
circulation .
3. Muscle Remains in Tone Position : When exercises are
done on regular basis our muscles remain in toned position . In
fact , muscle remains under some degree of contraction .
Muscle becomes firm and maintains a slight , steady pull on the
attachments .
4. Controls Extra Fat : Regular exercise controls the extra fat
of the body . Exercises burn the extra calories deposited in the
form of fat .
5. Change in the Connective Tissue : The connective tissue ,
which connects fibres , becomes powerful . These tissues can
bear stress of strenuous activity and can be extended up to
some degree .

23 Advantages (0.5*4)
1. It keeps the heart rate up allowing an athlete to get good
cardiovascular endurance.
2. It is good for aerobic and anaerobic fitness. That is why it
makes an athlete a better sprinter and a better long-distance
runner.
3. Due to the sprinting intervals, it makes the body versatile. 4.
It is flexible in nature.
5. A number of athletes can take part in this training
simultaneously.
6. In this training method no equipment is required. Hence , it
can be organized without any problem .
7. It can be easily adapted to the athlete's need.

24 1. Oxygen uptake: (1+1)

The amount of oxygen which can be absorbed and consumed
by the working muscles from the blood is called oxygen
uptake. The oxygen uptake depends on the rate of diffusion
which is further determined by the speed of blood flow ,
temperature and partial pressure of oxygen in the blood and of
Page 43 of 109
carbon dioxide in the muscle cell . The speed and amount of
oxygen consumption also depends on the number , size and
metabolic capacity of the mitochondria and fortunately these
can be improved to a certain extent through training .
2. Stroke Volume Increases at Rest :
Regular exercise helps in increasing the stroke volume at
rest . The stroke volume at rest remains up to 50-70 ml /
beat in untrained individuals , 70-90 ml / beat in trained
individuals and 90-110 ml / beat in the best endurance
athletes .

26 Types of Aggression in Sports These are the following. (1+1+1)

1. Hostile Aggression : Hostile aggression is inflicting or
causing harm whether it is physical or psychological on
someone else . It is sometimes referred as reactive
aggression and can be accompanied by anger . In hostile

aggression , the main aim is to cause injury to other
sportsperson . The intention is on causing pain and
suffering . In simple words , hostile aggression is when the
primary aim is to cause physical harm or injury to your
opponent . A good example of hostile aggressionis a
bowler throwing a bouncer deliberately to shake up the
concentration of a batsman . Some cricketers have
deliberately done this in the past with the intent towards
causing injury .
2. Instrumental Aggression : Instrumental aggression is
displaying aggressive behaviour in the pursuit of a non -
aggressive goal . It is also known as channeled aggression
and is not accompanied by anger . This type of aggression
comes in contact sports . In other words , instrumental
aggression is behavior that has the intent to hurt in order to
achieve money , praise or victory . In case of instrumental
aggression an athlete may intend to injure the opponent ,
but the most important goal to be achieved by the
aggressive act is to win the competition .
For example , a rugby player using aggression to tackle his
opponent to win the ball . Actually the player is not using
his aggression to hurt the opponent but rather to win the
ball back .
3. Assertive Behavior : Assertive behavior is different
type of aggression / aggressive behavior . This is defined
as behavior that involves the use of legitimate physical or
verbal force to achieve one's purpose . For example ,
sledging in cricket to cause psychological discomfort for
the batsman . For an act to be assertive it must be goal
directed with no specific intention to harm with the use of
legitimate force with no rules broken . In assertive
aggression or assertive behavior , the intention is to
establish dominance rather than to harm the opponent .
Any physical injury that may occur through assertive
behavior is accidental and unintentional . In fact , assertive
behavior is related to four main criteria i.e. , it is goal
oriented , not intended to harm , uses only legitimate force
and does not break any rule of the game or sport . Even
when coaches say to their players to be aggressive they
mean to say that they be assertive .

Eating Disorders Most of the girls with female athlete
triad try to lose their body weight as a way to improve

their performance in the field of games and sports . In
order to lose weight , they may practice unhealthy weight -
control methods , including restricted food intake , self -
induced vomiting , consumption of appetite suppressants
and diet pills and use of laxatives . Many girls deny their
eating disorders due to embarrassment , shame , fear of
losing control of their dieting regimen and a mistaken
belief that excessive weight loss enhances sports
performance . These eating disorders can be fatal . There
are following types of eating disorders .
1. Anorexia Nervosa : In this eating disorder , the female
athletes think only about food , dieting and body weight all
the time . They have distorted body structure . Other
individuals usually feel them that they are becoming thin
but they do not believe this . In front of the mirror they see
themselves as obese .
2. Bulimia Nervosa : It is also an eating disorder in which
a female athlete eats excessive amount of food and then
vomits it in order not to gain weight . In this disorder , an
individual binges on food and feels a loss of control . Then
, to prevent weight gain , tries to vomit the food .

28 Methods to Improve Flexibility (1+1+1)

Flexibility can be improved or developed effectively with
the help of following methods
1. Ballistic Method : In ballistic method , the movement is
performed with a swing in a rhythmic way . The related
joint is stretched with a swing . The stretching exercise can
be performed rhythmically with a count . At each count ,
the joint stretched to the maximum limit and then it is
again flexed . Before performing such exercise ,
appropriate warm - up is essential because there are
maximum chances of over - stretching of a joint .
2. Static Stretching Method : Static stretching method
involves gradually easing into the stretch position and
holding the position . The amount of time a static stretch is
held depends on one's purpose . If it is a part of cool down
, then the stretch should be held for 10 seconds . If it is
improve the range of flexibility then hold it for 30 seconds
. In static stretching , it is advised to move further into the
stretch position as the stretch sensation comes to a lower
level . 3. Dynamic Stretching Method : Dynamic
stretching consists of controlled leg and arm swings that
take you gently to the limit of your range of motion . If an

event requires a dynamic movement , it is appropriate to
conduct dynamic stretching exercises . Start with the
movement at half speed for a couple of repetitions and
then gradually work up to full speed .

30 Non - Nutritive Components of Diet (1+2)
Non - nutritive components of diet are those components
that do not provide energy of calories . Roughage or fiber ,
water , colours , flavours , pesticide residues , etc. , are
among tens of thousands of non - nutritive components of
diet or food . As a matter of fact , there are a lot of non -
nutritive components of diet that can be identified easily .
However , there are also many non - nutritive components
of diet that have been discovered recently .
1. Fiber or Roughage : Fibre or roughage has no nutrient
value . Hence , it is included in the non - nutritive
components of diet . It is the undigested part of the food or
it can be said that it cannot be digested by the human
intestinal tract . It consists of water and improves intestinal
function by adding bulk to food . It satisfies the appetite .
It helps to correct the disorders of large intestine . It
prevents constipation . Roughage or fiber can be divided
into two categories , i.e. , soluble and insoluble fibers .
Soluble fibers can dissolve in water , whereas , insoluble
fiber can't . The soluble fibre reduces blood sugar
fluctuation and lowers cholesterol .
2. Colour Compounds : Food or diet is made more
appetizing and attractive by the wide reflection of colors
made possible through pigments . Natural pigments are
found in fruits and vegetables . The colors derived from
animal products and grains are less bright . There are
various colours derived from fruits and vegetables such as
red , orange , yellow , green , blue and cream .
3. Flavour Compounds : Flavors are derived from both
nutritive and non - nutritive components of food .
Sometimes it becomes very difficult to know the source of
a specific flavor . An acidic food provides sour taste while
an alkaline one provides a bitter taste .
4. Plant Compounds : In addition to colour compounds
and flavor compounds , there are some plants which
contain other non - nutritive substances . When these
substances are ingested they may have beneficial or
harmful effects .

35 Talent Identification in Sports (5)

Talent identification refers to the process of recognising
current participants with the potential to become elite
players . It entails predicting performance over time by
measuring physical , physiological , psychological and
sociological attributes as well as technical abilities , either
in isolation or in combination . As per other studies , talent
identification in sport is a process in which individuals
who are more likely to prosper in a given sport are
identified according to the test of specific factors . Hadavi
and Burns defined talent identification as a means of
harnessing sporting talent to bring about future success in
international arena .
Talent Development in Sports Talent development in
sports is the most important stage in the process of
achieving sporting success . It is aimed at providing the
most optimal learning environment to help promising
youth athletes realise their potential . Optimum
environment involves provision of adequate number of
competent coaches , experts and managers , adequate and
availability of quality facilities and equipment for training
and testing as well as time for training , actual training and
practice that are directed towards enhancing athletes '
development . Availability of these essential resources can
significantly influence the ability to engage in the required
amount of high quality training . It is recommended that
these resources be allocated to help identify and develop
talent to enable athletes to reach the top in their sport .

Sports Training Cycles There is a concept of periodisation
in sports which includes three different training cycles .
which Periodisation is an organised approach to training v
involves progressive cycling of various aspects of a
training programme during a specific period of time . It
can be defined as the purposeful variation of a training
programme over time , so that the competitor closer gets
his s or her optimum adaptive potential just before an
important event . It is based on the principles of
multilateral development , specialisation , variety and long
- term training .
Micro Cycles A micro cycle is the shortest training cycle ,
typically lasting a week with the goal of facilitating a
focused block of training . Each micro cycle is planned
based on where it is in the overall macro cycle . An
example of this is an endurance block where a cyclist
strings three or four long rides together within one week to
progressively overload their training volume .
Meso Cycles. The meso cycle represents a specific block
of training that is typically made up of 3-4 micro cycles 3-
4weeks that is designed to accomplish a particular goal . A
meso cycle form a number of continuous weeks micro
cycles where the training programme focuses towards
improving the same physical adaptations , for example
maximal strength , static strength , maximal speed or
Functional Threshold Power ( FTP )
Macro Cycles:This cycle is the longest of the three cycles
and The macro typically includes four stages of a
periodised training programme , for example this may be
1. Intensity 2. Endurance 3. Recovery 4.Competition
A macro cycle is an annual plan that works towards
peaking for the goal competition of the year.

36 Endurance : (5)
Endurance is the ability to sustain an activity. Barrow and
McGee, define endurance as the result of a physiological
capacity of the individual to sustain movement over a
period of time. Here also define Endurance as the ability to
resist fatigue. In all sports activities, endurance is directly
or indirectly of high importance. It is usually measured by
the number of repetitions.
For example, the number of sit-ups an individual can
complete in one minute is often used to measure the
endurance of the stomach muscle.

The types of endurance can be studied under the following
heads.
1 Types of Endurance According to the Nature of Activity
According to the nature of activity, endurance can be
divided into the following types.
(a) Basic Endurance: Basic endurance is also called
aerobic endurance because
It depends mainly on aerobic endurance. In fact, basic
endurance is the ability to perform movements in which
large number of body muscles are involved and the
activity (movements) is performed at a slow pace for a
long duration such as jogging, walking, slow running and
swimming at moderate speed for more than 30 minutes.
Basic endurance form the basis of all type endurance.
(b)General endurance
General endurance is the ability to resist fatigue
satisfactorily caused by different types of activities. These
activities may be for a longer duration. However, this
duration is much shorter than required for aerobic or
anaerobic in nature. These activities may be of low or
high intensity but basic endurance activity. In other
words, it can be said that general endurance enables a
sportsperson to perform different types of activities for a
long duration without getting tired.
(c) Specific Endurance: Specific endurance is the ability to
resist fatigue caused by a specific or particular sports
activity. As the nature of fatigue is different for different
sports , the specific endurance is also different ,
respectively . For example, specific endurance of a
wrestler is to combat effectively in the three rounds or six
minutes, whereas it is of four rounds for a boxer.
2. Types of Endurance According to the Duration of
Activity
According to the duration of sports , endurance can be
divided into the following types .
( a ) Speed Endurance : Speed endurance is the ability to
resist fatigue in activities lasting up to 45 seconds . The
event of 400 m sprint is the most suitable example of
speed endurance . Speed endurance is mainly dependent
on the power and capacity of energy production.
( b ) Short Term Endurance : Short term endurance is
needed to resist fatigue in sports activities lasting from
about 45 seconds to 2 minutes . This endurance also
depends to a large extent on strength and speed endurance
. The endurance needed for 800 m race is the most
Page 52 of 109
suitable example for short term endurance .
c) Middle Term Endurance : The middle term endurance is
needed for such sports activities which last from 2 to 11
minutes. It also depends on strength endurance and speed
endurance but to a limited degree. The endurance needed
for 1500 m race and steeple chase race by a runner is the
most suitable example of middle term endurance .
d) Long Term Endurance : Long term endurance is needed
in such sports activities which last for more than 11
minutes. The sports activities such as 5000 m , 10,000 m
cross country and marathon races require such type of
endurance .

at generating short bursts of strength or speed than slow muscles.
20 personality, a characteristic way of thinking, feeling, and behaving. Personality 2
embraces moods, attitudes, and opinions and is most clearly expressed in
interactions with other people. It includes behavioural characteristics, both
inherent and acquired,

An ambivert is someone who exhibits qualities of both introvert and extrovert.

They cannot be labeled as pure introverts (shy) or extroverts (outgoing).
Omnivert is another word used for the same personality type, but both the words
hold the same meaning.
21 1. You burn a lot of calories. 2
2. Interval training workouts can boost your endurance.
3. It can help you lose weight and build muscle.
4. It improves oxygen efficiency in the muscles.
5. You get full-body training with variations.
22 Protection, Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation, or P.R.I.C.E., adds the concept 2
of ―protection‖ to the traditional R.I.C.E. protocol formula. Protecting the injured
area from further damage is crucial to the healing process.
MICE means
M – Motion
I – Ice
C – Compression

24 Calcium is needed for growing and building strong bones and teeth during 2
childhood. Our bones hold on to most of the calcium in our body. As much as
99% of the body's calcium is found in the bones. This needs to be ‗topped-up‘
daily from our diet. If we don't have enough calcium in childhood, we may be at
risk of weak bones and fractures in later life.
SECTION-C
25 Advantages of physical activities for children with Special needs 3

Reduced level of anxiety, stress and depression: physical activities may help in
reducing the level of anxiety, stress and depression of children with disabilities.

Improved social interaction: physical activities provide ample opportunities for

improving the social interaction among children with special needs. Social
relations are developed during involvement in physical activities.

Better emotional and psychological health:physical activities are beneficial for

children with special needs because such activities improve psychological and
emotional health.

Cognitive benefits: physical activities lead to cognitive skill improvement in

children with disabilities. These activities allow them to discover and access
strengths that cannot be challenged in the classroom setting.
26 Vitamins are organic compounds that people need in small quantities. Most 3
vitamins need to come from food because the body either does not produce them
or produces very little.

Vitamins are either soluble, or dissolvable, in fat or water.

Fat-soluble vitamins
Vitamins A, D, E, and K are fat-soluble. The body stores fat-soluble vitamins in
fatty tissue and the liver.

Water-soluble vitamins
Water-soluble vitamins do not stay in the body for long and cannot be stored.
They leave the body via the urine
27 Seeding: Seeding is a process by which good teams are fitted in fixture in such a 3
way that stronger teams do not meet each other in earlier rounds. This seeding
method is only possible if the standard of the teams is known before hand.
Advantage:
2. Owing to less number of matches it requires less time to complete the
tournament.
3. Minimum number of officials are required in organising such type of
tournaments.
Disadvantages:
c) Knock-out TournamentThere may be many chances of elimination of
good teams in 1st or 2nd round.
d) Spectators may not have enough interest in the final match.
28 Personality is a complete unit in itself but the unit of personality is made up of
various dimensions.Such as-physical dimension,mental dimension,social
dimension,and emotional dimension.

c) Physical dimension:It is based on the fact that first impression is the last
impression.Infact physical dimension is related to good physique, good
aappearence, good health,good posture,good height, body weight,and
bright face etc.
d) Mental dimension:It is related to mental and intellectual strength and
abilities. Many great personalities of the world were not good looking but
they possessed mental and intellectual qualities. If one lays more stress on
struggles and learning ,one become more intellectual.
29 (a) Lack of fitness of player. (b) Lack of psychological readiness. (c) Equipment 3

30 Osteoporosis means that you have less bone mass and strength. The disease often 3
develops without any symptoms or pain, and it is usually not discovered until the
weakened bones cause painful fractures. Most of these are fractures of the hip,
wrist and spine.
Causes:
Osteoporosis occurs when too much bone mass is lost and changes occur in the
structure of bone tissue. Certain risk factors may lead to the development of
osteoporosis or can increase the likelihood that you will develop the disease.
Factors that may increase your risk for osteoporosis include:
Age, sex, Body size, Family history, Changes to hormones.

Pachimottansana, Ardha – Matsyendrasana, Dhanurasana, Ushtrasana,
Suryabedhan pranayama.

How to do Trikonasana?

Stand straight with your legs apart. The distance between your legs should be a
little more than the span of your shoulders.
Inhale. Raise your right hand straight above your head. The right arm should be
parallel to the right ear.
Exhale. Bend your torso at the waist, to your left side.
Simultaneously, slide your left arm down along your left leg till your fingers are
at your ankle.
At this point, your right arm must be horizontal as your head is tilted left.
Hold the pose with your knees and elbows straight. Hold the position for 30
seconds.
Inhale. Straighten yourself and stand erect. Repeat the posture on the other side.

35 Arm Curl Test: This exercise assesses upper-body strength. 5

Scratch Test of the Back – this is to assess upper body flexibility.
Chair stand test- this is to test lower body strength.
Sitting in a chair and reaching the feet- this is to test lower body flexibility.
Chair Stand Test for lower body strength
The purpose of the Chair-Stand is to measure the strength of the lower body of
adults over 60 years of age. Lower body strength is important for activities such
as getting out of a chair, on the bus, out of the car, and rising up from a kneeling
position in the house or garden. The strength of your lower body can directly
affect the ease with which you perform the activities you do every day.

Equipment: Chair without arms, Stopwatch.

Procedure:
Place the chair against a wall where it will be stable.Sit in the middle of the chair
with your feet flat on the floor, shoulder width apart, back straight. Cross your
arms at the wrist and place them against your chest.
The test partner will tell you when to begin and will time you for 30 seconds,
using the stopwatch.
You will rise up to a full stand and sit again as many times as you can during the
30-second interval.

36 Static Friction – The opposite force that comes into play when the body tends to 5
move over the surface of another, but the actual motion has not yet started.
Dynamic Friction:- The opposing for that comes into play when one body is
actually moved over the surface of another body. Dynamic friction may be of two
type.
Rolling friction and Sliding friction

Advantageous or disadvantageous with example.

Friction is usually called a necessary evil. It means that it is essential in games
and sports. Without friction we cannot give a better performance for example
athletes use spikes and football players use studs to have appropriate friction,
without friction they are unable to run fast. Even gymnasts use lime powder on
their palms to perform on horizontal bar, Uneven bar and roman rings.
On the other hand friction is disadvantageous in some games. In cycling there
should not be more friction between road and the tyres of the cycle. If there is
more friction there will be more wastage of energy of the rider and leads to
damage of equipment.
37 Strength is the ability of a muscle to exert force in single muscle contraction or it 5
is the ability to overcome resistance. Strength is an essential component of
physical fitness.
Types of strength are
Maximum Strength
Explosive Strength
Strength Endurance
Static Strength

Isometric
In isometric exercises, the muscles do not shorten or lengthen. These exercises
are often referred to as static. For example, a person may hold a plank position
and therefore no muscles shorten or lengthen. Other isometric exercise examples
are abdominal vacuums and bridges.
Isometric exercises can help to maintain strength, and to a lesser degree, help to
build strength.

Isotonic
With isotonic exercises, the same amount of muscle tension or weight is
maintained throughout the movement. An example is performing a bicep curl as
the weight remains the same as the joint moves through the entire range of
motion. Other examples of isotonic exercises include push-ups, pull-ups, and
squats. The weight of the body remains the same as the joint moves between the
start and end ranges.

30 Vitamin:- Vitamins are chemicals, which are required in very small amount 3
to keep our body healthy.

There are four fat-soluble vitamins in the human diet:

 vitamin A
 vitamin D
 vitamin E
 vitamin K

Vitamin A is required for the maintenance of normal mucous membranes

and for normal vision. It occurs naturally only in foods of animal origin,
such as liver, butter, whole milk, and egg yolks,
Carotenoids are present in dark-green, leafy vegetables and in yellow and
orange vegetables and fruits. In addition, skim milk, margarines, and certain
breakfast cereals are fortified with vitamin A. From food composition
tables,
Vitamin D
The active form of vitamin D promotes intestinal absorption of calcium and
phosphorus and influences bone mineralization. Vitamin D occurs in two
forms that are equally well utilized in the body.
Vitamin D occurs naturally only in animal foods such as liver, butter, fatty
fish (fish containing high levels of cholesterol or fatty acids as glycerides),
and egg yolks. Because natural milk is a poor source,

34 four asana used for prevention Obesity:- 5
1. Vajrasana
2. Urdhva hastasana
3. Trikonasana
4. Ardhmatseyendrasana

Steps to practice Trikonasana (Triangle Pose)

Starting Position: Stand upright keeping the spine erect, head
straight, feet together with big toes and heels slightly touching
each other. Hands to the side of the body. The weight of the body
should neither be on the heels nor on the toes but distributed
evenly on both of them. Relax and take deep breaths.
Move the legs 3-4 feet distance apart. Raise both the arms
straight out to the sides, in line with the shoulders and parallel to
the floor with the palms facing downwards.
Move the right foot to the outside direction. Turn the left foot
slightly to the inward direction. The knees must remain straight
throughout the practice.
Slowly begin to bend the trunk towards the right side. Make sure
the body doesn‘t go in the forward direction.
Once the trunk is completely bent the hand must be close to the
right ankle with the fingers slightly touching the floor. Ideally
the right palm rest on the floor. Avoid forcing this position as
with regular practice it comes easily on the floor.Stretch the left
arm vertically. Move the head in the upward direction and look
straight.
Hold the position for a minute or half or even lesser in the
Page 91 of 109
beginning. Gradually increasing the time as you begin to feel

35 Test items listed under fitness test by SAI (Age group 5-8yrs). 5

Explain any two of them in detail:-

1. B.M.I
2. Plat tapping test
3. Femingo balance test
Plat tapping test:-
The rectangle is placed equidistant between both discs. The non-
preferred hand is placed on the rectangle. The subject moves the
preferred hand back and forth between the discs over the hand in
the middle as quickly as possible. This action is repeated for 25
full cycles (50 taps).

Flamingo balance test:- The test requires participants to stand on one leg
on a beam, with the other leg flexed at the knee and the foot of this leg
held close to the buttocks. This single leg balance test assesses the strength

of the leg, pelvic, and trunk muscle as well as dynamic balance.

36 projectile is any object that is given an initial velocity and then follows a 5
path determined entirely by gravity. There are following factors that affect
projectile trajectory:
1.Angle of projection:- An object which is projected at different angles
covers different distance. When it is projected or released at angle of 25O,
making it a parabolic path and coves lesser distance. When it is released at
angle of 42O & 45O, makes a parabolic path and covers. Maximum
distance. So the distance covered by an object (Shot Put, Hammer, Javelin,
Discus etc. depends on the
2.Projection height relevant to the landing surface:- If the projection
height and landing surface are equal the thing should be release/thrown at
an angle of 42o to 45o it cover maximum distance. If the level of landing
surface is more than projection height the angle shall be increased i.e.
should be more than 45o.So thing are cover a maximum distance. If the
level of Landing surface is less than projection height the angle of
projection should be decreased. I.e. should be less the 45o. The things are
cover maximum distance. So the distance of horizontal depends upon the
relevancy of projection height and landing surface.
3.Initial velocity:- The distance covered by on object depends on the initial
velocity of the projectile. If the initial velocity is more, the object covers
maximum distance. And if the initial velocity is less the object covers less
distance.
4.Gravity:- It is the force of attraction exerted by the earth towards the
object‘s. A Leaner object, if projected will have longer elivation in
companison to a light weight object with the same force. Gravity affects a
projectile as it decreases the height of the force of gravity acts on the object
to stop its upward movement and pulls it back to earth. Limiting vertical
component of the projectile.
5.Air Resistance:- When a projectile moves through the air, it is slow down
by air resistance, Air resistance decrease the h o r i z o n t a l component of
projectile. The effect of air resistance is very small but it increase the
horizontel component of air resistance acting on a projectile mass surface of
Page 93 of 109
the object. Following factors - Surface of the object volume, mass & speed
related to the amount of air resistance of a projectile.

What is the training cycle?
A training cycle is a program designed over a set period of time. The
cycle organizes specific training elements within this time frame
Macro,meso,and micro cycle
Macro-A macro cycle is on annual plan for training .It is the longest of the
three cycle, there are three phases macro cycle;preparation
period, competition and transitional period.macro cycle is include all 52
weeks of annual plan . which is provide a important view of hole year
training.
Meso-A meso cycle is a single training with in year macro cycle.A meso
cycle usually range form 2 to 6 week, but it can be shorter and longer.there
are longer major cycle duration preparatory phase and shortest during
competition phase.
Micro- A micro cycle is the shortest training cycle. It is usually of one
week long,a micro cycle provide in information on athlete need to complete
his training for that week. Micro cycle may be similar form week to week.

as elements. Essential elements of our diet are

(i) Carbohydrates These are the compounds of

carbon, hydrogen and oxygen.
Sources Fruits, milk, vegetables, pulses, bajra,
rice, cakes, etc.
Functions
The main function of carbohydrates
is to provide energy to the body, brain and
nervous system.

(ii) Proteins Proteins are a chain of amino acids that

contain carbon, oxygen, hydrogen and nitrogen.
Sources Eggs, milk, meat, beans, animal
products, etc.

Functions Proteins are the main components of

muscles, organs and glands. The cells of

lungs.
21 Rider's bending forward can be related to Newton's 1+1=2
First Law of Motion. It states that a body at rest will
remain at rest and a body in motion will remain in
motion at the same speed and in the same direction
unless any external force is applied on it to change
that state.
22 The purpose of Plate Tapping Test is to measure 1+1=2
speed and coordination of limb movement of
children.
The equipments required for this test include table
of adjustable height, 2 yellow discs of 20 cm
diameter each and stopwatch.
23 The volume of blood pumped into the heart 2
with every heartbeat is known as the stroke
volume. In an untrained male, it is 50 to
70 ml/beat while in a trained male athlete, it
maybe 70-90ml/beat.
24 Mental imagery can be useful in several 1+1=2
circumstances including
(i) Developing self-confidence.
(ii) Developing pre-competition and competition
strategies.
(ii) Helping the athlete focus their attention on a
particular skill they are trying to develop.
(iv) Dealing with the actual competition situation
and stress.
25 Comparison between passive flexibility and active 1×3=3
flexibility are
. Passive Flexibility The exercises of passive
flexibility refers to someone physically moving a
part of your body for you. This requires no effort
on the part of the athlete. For instance, a
therapist may grasp your arm gently and move it
in a circular motion. This may be also required in
certain tests conducted to measure the flexibility
Page 102 of 109
of the person being tested.
• Active Flexibility The exercises of active
flexibility are for people trying to increase or
maintain flexibility on their own. They require no
assistance to perform simple movements, such
as arm circles or flexing of fingers.
26 The procedure of partial curl-ups exercise 1×3=3
• The complete test procedure is explained to the
student. After that the student lies in supine
pose on cushioned surface.
• The kness should be flexed and feet should be
12 inches from the buttocks. Both the feet
should be slightly apart.
• Arms should be extended and rested on thighs.
Head should be in neutral position. This is the
starting position.
• Then, the student curl up with a slow controlled
movement, until his/her shoulders come off the
cushioned surface or mat two inches, then back
down again.
.
One complete curl up is completed every 3
seconds and should be continued till
exhaustion, i.e. the student is unable to maintain
the rhythm.
27 The benefits of Pavanamuktasana which make it 1×3=3
important to reduce obesity include the following
• It cures acidity, indigestion and constipation.
It is helpful for those suffering from
gastro-intestinal problems, arthritis, heart
problems and waist and back pain.
•. It is extremely beneficial for stomach abs.
ble to maintain
It strengthens back muscle.
. It is also beneficial for reproductive organs and
menstruation disorders.
However, it also has certain contraindications which
are as follows
. Those who are suffering from high blood pressure
hernia, heart problems and ulcer should avoid the
asana.
During pregnancy and menstruation women
should avoid it.
Two other asanas which can be performed for
obesity are Tadasana, Katichakrasana
28 The effects of exercise on the respiratory system are 1×3=3
Lungs volume increases due to increase in vital
capacity, which results in greater inhale of O₂ .
Breathing frequency is decreased in trained
individuals, which means better absorption of O₂ .
• Maximum minute ventilation is increased after
exercise, which means greater force of exchange of
gases.
. Tidal volume (amount of air that moves in or out of
lungs with each respiratory cycle) is increased.
Physical exercises enhances ventilatory efficiency.
Diffusion capacity (gas exchange capacity in the
lungs) is increased.
29 The characteristics of introvert personality group are 1×3=3
as follows
These people are more self-conscious.
More interested in their own thoughts and ideas.
Self-centered and shy.
. Reserved and lovers of solitude.
They do not make friends easily and keep in the
background on social occasions.
Philosophers, poets, artists and scientists belong
to this class.

over-bending the finger backwards or catching
the finger somewhere during fast movement.
34 The Chair Sit and Reach Test is part of the senior 1+4=5
citizen fitness test protocol. It is designed to test
the functional fitness of senior citizens.
Purpose This test measures lower body flexibility.
Equipment Required Ruler, straight back chair or
folding chair (seat 17 inch/44 cm high).
Procedure The subject sits at the front edge of
the chair placed against a wall for safety. One foot
must remain flat on the floor. The other leg is
extended forward with the knee straight, heel
touching the floor, with ankle bent at 90°.
Place one hand on top of the other with tips of the
middle fingers even, exhale and reach forward
towards the toes by bending at the hip.
Keep the back straight and head up.
Avoid bouncing or quick movements and never
stretch to the point of pain. Keep the knee straight
and hold the reach for 2 second. The distance to
be measured is between the finger tips and the
toes. If the finger tips touch the toes, then the
score is zero.
If they do not touch, measure the distance
between the fingers and the toes they get a
negative score; if they overlap, measure by how
much, then they get a positive score.
Perform two trials and record the better score.
35 Eric is suffering from lordosis. A person affected 1+4=5
with an inward curvature of the spine is said to be
affected with lordosis. It is an increased forward
curve in the lumbar region. It creates problems in
standing and walking.
The causes of lordosis are
the lower vertebrae (spinal bones). This disease
Page 105 of 109
* Spondylolisthesis is a spinal condition that affects
causes one of the lower vertebrae to slip forward
onto the bone directly beneath it.
S 12
• People who are suffering from obesity are more
susceptible to lordosis.
• Osteoporosis means weakening of the bones with
age and also leads to lordosis. Poor posture also
leads to lordosis.
◆ Discitis, meaning an inflammation of the discs
between the spinal vertebrae, is also one of the
main causes of lordosis.
The corrective measures for lordosis are
• People who are suffering from lordosis can do
medication to reduce pain and swelling.
.
Yoga is one of the most useful therapies to improve
lordosis. The asanas useful in this condition are
Utkatasana (Chair Pose), Navasana (Boat Pose)
and Eka Pada Rajakapotasana (Pigeon Pose).
Weight loss is also a good option to overcome this
problem.
• Perform sit-ups to get rid of this problem.
• Undertake exercises to control the positioning of
the pelvic region.
36 Eating disorders refer to taking very little calories due 2.5+2.5=5
energy. Eating disorder is related to mental illness
deficiency can be essential nutrients or even lack of
and affects a person's physical and mental health.
To improve athletic performance, most of the female
enough food containing fat and particularly iron,
athletes try to lose weight. Due to this, they do not eat
which leads to serious disorders like anorexia
nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and anaemia. These are
discussed below
Anorexia Nervosa It is a condition where a person
refuses to eat well and maintain normal body
weight according to the height. This condition
leads to several other health issues including
reduced bone density, damaged kidneys, and
heart disorders.
Bulimia Nervosa It is a condition in which an
individual binges on food, followed by methods to
avoid weight gain. It is a potentially life-threatening
eating disorder.
. Anaemia It is a condition which causes low red
blood cells in the body. This is due to lack of iron in
the diet. Women athletes do vigorous exercises
Page 106 of 109
and if it is not followed by a healthy diet, then it
leads to anaemia. Other causes are excessive
blood loss from menstruation or any disease.
Symptoms of iron-deficiency anaemia include
fatigue, muscle burning, shortness of breath during
exercise, nausea, and frequent infections.
37 A trainer can improve the cardiorespiratory system 1+2+2=5
with the help of exercise in the following ways
·
●Decrease in Rate of Respiration When a
beginner starts exercise, then his rate of
respiration increases. But when the same
individual performs exercise daily, then his rate of
respiration decreases in comparison to the
beginning stage at rest.
Lung Volume For normal breathing at rest, lung
expand and there is a change in air pressure.
During exercise, due to rapid movement of
diaphragm and intercostal muscles, total area of
lung expands to accommodate more exchange
of gases.
•Lung Diffusion Capacity During exercise, the
lung diffusion capacity increases in both trained
and untrained persons. However, trained athletes
may increase their diffusion capacity 30% more
lung Ta
than that of an untrained person because
athlete's lung surface area and red blood cell
count is higher than that of non-athletes.
Pulmonary Ventilation The amount of air
passing through lungs each minute is called
Pulmonary Ventilation. The Pulmonary Ventilation
(PV) is a product of Tidal Volume (TV and
Respiratory Rate (RR) and therefore, at rest it is
around 8 l/min.
AB
During exercise time both TV and RR increase,
due to which PV will also increase depending on
the intensity of exercise. For an ordinary person,
the value of PV may be 40-50 l/min and for
well-trained athlete, it may be around 100 l/min.
Residual Air Volume It is the volume of air in the
lungs which is left after exhalation. With
exercises, the residual air capacity increases
which enhances efficiency of lungs.
