:Introduction
Networks are everywhere or so it seems. You
can hardly do anything
with data that does not involve a network.
Like the human networks
that we are all part of, computer networks let
us share information and resources. In
business, the reliance on networks is even
more pervasive than in homes or schools

Types Of Computer Network

lan wan
man

: Local Area network (lan)-1

3
If the network is contained within a
,relatively small area
such as a class- room, school, or single
.building
it is commonly re- ferred to as a local area
.network (LAN)
This type of network has the lowest cost
and least overall capability
.of the three geographic classifications
Be- cause the pieces of equipment in a
LAN are in relatively close proximity,
.LANs are inexpensive to install

4
:Advantages , Disadvantage of LAN
: Advantages
resources like hard-disks, DVD-ROM, -
and printers can share local area
.networks
of all network users can be stored on a -
.single hard disk of the server computer

:Disadvantage
LAN admin can check personal data -
files of every LAN user, so it does not
.offer good privacy
Local Area Network requires a -
constant LAN administration as there
are issues related to software setup
.and hardware failures
:Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) -2

5
As the computers get further
apart, a LAN becomes more difficult
,to install
and additional measures such as
additional communications equipment
may
need to be employed. Although the
speeds achieved in a MAN are
typically as high as in a LAN, it
requires high-speed connections, such
as fiber optics. Increasing the distance
and the technology levels increases
the relative installation and operation
.costs of MANs

6
:Advantages ,Disadvantage of Man
: Advantages
offers fast communication using high-speed -
.carriers, like fiber optic cables
It provides excellent support for an extensive -
.size network and greater access to WANs
MAN network mostly includes some areas of -
.a city or an entire city

:Disadvantage
You need more cable to establish MAN -
.connection from one place to another
In MAN network it is tough to make the -
.system secure from hackers

:Wide Area Network (WAN) -3

The MAN outgrows its usefulness when the
network must expand beyond
7
the confines of the typical metropolitan area.
When the network spans a larger
area, as shown in Figure 1.4, it is classified as
.a wide area network (WAN)
Because of the extensive distances over which
WANs communicate, they use
long-distance telecommunications networks
for their connections, which increases
.the costs of the network

Advantages ,Disadvantage of
:Man
: Advantages
8
WAN helps you to cover a larger -
.geographical area
-phones, mobile like devices Contains
laptop, tablet, computers, gaming consoles,
.etc

:Disadvantage
.initial setup cost of investment is very high -
.It is difficult to maintain the WAN network-
You need skilled technicians and network -
.administrators
There are more errors and issues because of -
the wide coverage
.and the use of different technologies

:Conclusion

9
In conclusion, a network is two or
more computers connected together
using
a telecommunication system for the
purpose of communicating and
sharing resources. Without having a
network, Companies would not be
able to share resources and increase
productivity more effectively..
Networks have many benefits to the
end user. Weather your Network is
Wired or Wireless, Networks area
.important part of technology
