2023-03-15 UTEW 311 Assignment Instructions Fin-1
Minimum requirements:
● You must upload group work evidence under the special “Group work evidence” tab in
the Assignment tool. Failure to submit group evidence will result in a 0 for Assignment A.
● You must participate in peer assessment. You are expected to be able to assess any
one of the five options of assignments - the system will randomly distribute
assessments. Failure to complete the peer assessment process result in a 0 for
Assignment A for the entire group. Peer assessment will help you meet several module
assessment criteria, graduate attributes, and study unit outcomes (see purpose below).
This module focuses and critical thinking and reasoning. Therefore, you must be able to
critically and constructively engage with peers.
● If you fail to complete the three comment sections in the peer assessment rubric, a
penalty of 30% will apply.
Purpose:
● This assignment is structured so that certain module assessment criteria, graduate
attributes, and Study Unit outcomes can be assessed (please see a separate document
purpose of assessment to view these)

● Ensure that the infographic includes citations for any sources used.
● Ensure that the infographic contains clear and concise descriptions

Once you have completed your collage, write a 200-word reflection that analyses how the visual
elements in your collage relate to the chosen trend in African philosophy. You should consider
questions such as: What themes and motifs emerge from your collage? How do these themes
relate to the principles of your chosen trend? What insights did you gain about the trend from
creating the collage? How might these insights inform your teaching practice in the future?

Option 4 (Study Unit 2)
Create a 4-5 minute podcast or video that explains authentic dialogue or discussions of
decolonisation in education to a novice in the field. Your podcast or video should also explain
how these concepts relate to education.
Specific instructions:
1. Conduct research on either authentic dialogue or discussions of decolonisation in
education and its application to education.
2. Create a script for a podcast or video that explains the following:
-What is an authentic dialogue in the context of African philosophy, or what is
decolonisation?
-How do these concepts relate to education?
-What are the benefits of using authentic dialogue or decolonisation in a classroom?
-Provide examples of how an authentic dialogue or decolonisation can address complex
problems in education.
3. Record the podcast or video and submit the podcast or video on eFundi. The video must
be limited to 5 minutes and compressed using Handbrake (video compression tool that
can be downloaded and used for free)

say over a mark and may adjust a mark accordingly using the rubric. After receiving the
notice, you will be able to see your assignment mark and feedback from the assessors
on eFundi. You will also be given a chance to ask for a re-mark if your assignment has
not been accurately assessed – provided you provide detailed reasons along in line
with the rubric for review of the mark. When applying for a re-mark, only the final
mark of the lecturer will be considered.

● When the assignment is finished, the team must evaluate each member using the 2023-
03 UTEW 311 Informal group assessment rubric.
● Each group leader must complete a google form (it will be available through eFundi
announcements) to indicate who the group members are. This must be done BEFORE 24
March. This information is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT, because it will determine if you will
get a mark or not. In this form you will also be expected to fill in your group name.
Apart from the individual roles, the duties of each member are the following:
● Find at least two academic sources related to the team’s topic.
● Make a summary of the two academic sources.
● Participate in each team meeting.
● Provide critical comments on the final draft of the assignment.
● Write a summary of what you did in the assignment (e.g., I was responsible for designing
the layout of the info graphic. I summarised two sources and made critical comments on
the final product. And so on…)
● Write a reflection (150 words) on what you learned about research through participating
in your group.
Documents that must be uploaded under group work evidence by 05 April 2023 (@23:30)
on eFundi:
● Group contract
● Record of team meetings and WhatsApp group communication.
● All the academic sources (including YouTube video links) and notes were made about the
sources used for the assignment.
● Screenshots of communication with AIs (when applicable)
● Individual summaries (compiled into one document) state what the person did in the team and
individual reflections on what they learned through group participation.
● The 2023-03 UTEW 311 Informal group assessment rubric on members’ collaboration during
group work.

2. Use the rubric you downloaded when you completed your assignment to assess the
assignments assigned to you.
3. Each assignment you assess must have its own rubric.
4. Assess the assignments together - see this as a learning opportunity. You can reflect on
what you learned in the process for personal gain.
5. Be honest in assessing the groups' peer assignments and give them fair marks.
6. If your assessment were unfair because you neglected the task, you would forfeit 50% of
your assignment mark.
7. When you have completed the assessment, the group leader must follow these steps:
STEP 1: Open eFundi, click on your UTEW 311 site.
STEP 2: Go to the Assignments tab
STEP 3: Go to the heading Assignment A'.
STEP 4: Click on the student whose work you have assessed.
STEP 5: Type your assigned mark for the assignment in the space provided.
STEP 6: Upload the rubric file on which you indicated the groups' marks and comments.
STEP 7: Make 100% sure you have attached the correct rubric and inserted the correct marks
STEP 8: When you have completed the above steps, make sure you click on Submit.
Complete and submit the peer assessment no later than 14 April 2023 @ 23:55.
When the feedback is submitted on eFundi, the group leader (or a person appointed by the
group leader) must fill in a groogle form which will be shared through eFundi announcements. In
this google form you will be expected to copy the comments on the rubric to a space provided in
the google form.
