During reading. Read about the history of New year’s resolutions. Try to guess the meaning of the unknown
vocabulary and use an online dictionary if you need it.

2
• How important is the New Year in your city?
In the city where I am, the importance of the new year is a party that unites many families where different
traditions are carried out and different qualities are shared such as dances, foods and omens that should never
be missing, they decorate most houses. in my community and it is a very nice night

• What food/drink is traditional?

There are several meals where I am.
There is the sancocho, the tamales, the night roast, the rice with chicken, the suckling pig. We also find
different traditional drinks such as canelazo, margaritas, cocktails and soft drinks.

• What customs are there?

In the Customs that are most frequent are
the burning of the Old Year, the 12 grapes, the egg in the glass, the yellow underwear, the walk around the
block with the suitcases, the pockets with lentils, the bath with the 7 bitter herbs, 7 sweet herbs, the bath with
champagne.

Step 2: After Reading. My personal resolutions.

Look at the chart below about personal resolutions:

Post the chart in the forum.

Post ONLY this chart in the forum (no screenshots!)

My 6 best resolutions

2 Start an exercise routine
3 make my company the most sought after

Step 3: Write an email to a friend.
Task: You are going to write an email to a friend telling him/her your new year’s resolutions and asking
about his/her plans. Language focus: Since you are expressing plans in the future, you need to turn the
resolutions into sentences using either “Will” or “Won’t”. Example: Be kind on social media → I will be
kind on social media. Don’t buy things I don’t need. → I won’t buy things I don’t need.
