Introductory Message

For the facilitator:

Welcome to the Mathematics 10 Self-Learning Module on Other Statistical

Methods!

This Self-Learning Module was collaboratively designed, developed and

reviewed by educators from the Schools Division Office of Pasig City headed by its
Officer-in-Charge Schools Division Superintendent, Ma. Evalou Concepcion A.
Agustin, in partnership with the City Government of Pasig through its mayor,
Honorable Victor Ma. Regis N. Sotto. The writers utilized the standards set by the K
to 12 Curriculum using the Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELC) in
developing this instructional resource.

This learning material hopes to engage the learners in guided and independent
learning activities at their own pace and time. Further, this also aims to help learners
acquire the needed 21st century skills especially the 5 Cs, namely: Communication,
Collaboration, Creativity, Critical Thinking, and Character while taking into
consideration their needs and circumstances.

In addition to the material in the main text, you will also see this box in the
body of the module:

Notes to the Teacher

This contains helpful tips or strategies that
will help you in guiding the learners.

As a facilitator you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this
module. You also need to keep track of the learners' progress while allowing them to
manage their own learning. Moreover, you are expected to encourage and assist the
learners as they do the tasks included in the module.
For the learner:

Welcome to the Mathematics 10 Self-Learning Module on Other Statistical

Methods!

This Self-Learning module was designed to provide you with fun and
meaningful opportunities for guided and independent learning at your own pace and
time. You will be enabled to process the contents of the learning material while being
an active learner.

This Self-Learning module has the following parts and corresponding icons:

Expectations - This points to the set of knowledge and skills

that you will learn after completing the module.

Pretest - This measures your prior knowledge about the lesson

at hand.

Recap - This part of the module provides a review of concepts

and skills that you already know about a previous lesson.

Lesson - This section discusses the topic in the module.

Activities - This is a set of activities that you need to perform.

Wrap-Up - This section summarizes the concepts and

application of the lesson.

Valuing - This part integrates a desirable moral value in the

lesson.

Posttest - This measure how much you have learned from the
entire module.
EXPECTATION
1. Uses appropriate measures of position and other statistical
methods in analysing and interpreting research data.

PRETEST

Read each item carefully and identify what is being asked. Write your answer
on the space provided.

_________________1. It is defined as the proportion of scores in a distribution that a

specific score is greater than or equal to.
_________________2. It is a collection of facts or information.
_________________3. It is used to characterize values according to the percentage
below them.
_________________4. It is systematic investigation into and study of materials and
sources in order to establish facts and reach new conclusions.
_________________5. It is a process of reviewing data through some predefined
processes which will help assign some meaning to the data and
arrive at a relevant conclusion. It involves taking the result of
data analysis, making inferences on the relations studied, and
using them to conclude.

RECAP

Directions: Read each statement and identify what is being asked.

___________ 1. It is a chart that summarizes values and their frequency. It's a useful
way to organize data if you have a list of numbers that represent the frequency of a
certain outcome in a sample.
___________ 2. The ninety-nine score points which divide a distribution into one
hundred equal parts so that each part represents 1/100 of the data set.
___________ 3. It is use particularly useful in relating individual scores to their
positions in the entire group.
___________ 4. This method is done when a person solicits information from another
person.
___________ 5. This method is advisable if the survey requires a series of questions,
which the interview method will be very slow to use.
LESSON

Methods of Survey Data Collection

Data Gathering is defined as the procedure of collecting, measuring and

analyzing accurate facts or information using standard validated techniques.
Collection of data is an important part of Statistics. Data should be collected
in a manner that they are accurate and convenient to use.
Data is a collection of facts or information. They may be gathered by using the
following methods.

The percentile of grouped data is used to characterize values according to the

percentage below them.

Example:

Mr. Covie conducted a 50-item summative test in mathematics to his Grade

10 students. A score of 35 and above will pass the exam. Arnold, one of the
students and his score belongs to the 75th percentile. Should Arnold be glad
about his score or not?

To answer the question of Arnold, he gathered all the scores of his classmates
to determine his performance in summative test among his classmates.

The data below shows their scores in summative test in mathematics.

35 40 44 36 38 40 40 42 33 45
38 38 40 42 35 20 22 25 24 30
33 34 35 38 25 45 46 48 32 34
28 29 30 32 39 38 34 37 38 40
34 38 39 35 37 34 36 34 30 31

Arnold organizes a table of values using their score in mathematics.

scores tally f l.b. <cf

44-47 IIII 4 43.5 50
40-43 IIII - III 8 39.5 46
36-39 IIII – IIII - III 13 35.5 38
32-35 IIII-IIII - IIII 14 31.5 25
28-31 IIII-I 6 27.5 11
24-27 III 3 23.5 5
20-23 II 2 19.5 2
To determine his performance in summative test among his classmates he
used the percentile of grouped data.

Solution:

𝑘𝑁
− 𝑐𝑓𝑏
𝑄𝑘 = 𝐿𝐵 + [ 100 ]𝑖
𝑓𝑃
75(50)
− 25
𝑄75 = 35.5 + [ 100 ]4
13
37.5 − 25
𝑄75 = 35.5 + [ ]4
13
12.5
𝑄75 = 35.5 + [ ]4
13

𝑄75 = 35.5 + (0.96)4

𝑄75 = 35.5 + 3.84

𝑄75 = 39.34

Therefore, 75% of the students got a score less than or equal to 36-39. Arnold
should be glad because his score belongs to 36-39 and he passed the exam.

ACTIVITIES

ACTIVITY
Direction: Apply the knowledge and skills you have learned in this lesson to evaluate
and interpret test results and to make/formulate meaningful decisions based on the
results to resolve the difficulties of the students.

The students are assigned to do the following:

1. Formulate a TITLE of your study.

2. Gather data.
3. Construct a frequency distribution table.
WRAP–UP

Data Gathering is defined as the procedure of collecting, measuring and analyzing

accurate facts or information using standard validated techniques.

Data is a collection of facts or information. They may be gathered by using the

following methods.

The percentile of grouped data is used to characterize values according to the

percentage below them.
