Annual Report 2023-2024

My humble salutations at the lotus feet of our beloved AMMA, Mata Amritanandamayi Devi and
my heartfelt greetings to all.

With the blessings of our beloved AMMA, we have completed another exciting year and I am
presenting before you the Annual Report of our School for the year 2023-24.

Amrita School of Engineering, Bengaluru which started in the year 2002 has completed 22 years of
its subsistence and 20 years under the patronage of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham i.e., since 2004.
Our School has been doing exceedingly well in academic standards in terms of imparting education
par excellence. 18 batches of students have graduated so far and the 19 th batch of students equipped
with value-based education will be graduating in a few weeks from now. The growth of our School
has been remarkable. We take lot of pride in the fact that the students graduating from our university
are multidimensional and therefore will not have any kind of uneasiness in their gestation period,
which is transforming from a student to
a true professional.

I am summarizing below the activities of the School during the Academic Year 2023-24, in a logical
order which is directed towards apprising all concerned.

Our campus is spread over an area of about 45 acres with 4 Schools – School of Engineering, School
of Computing, School of Artificial Intelligence and the School of Business.

We offer 6 UG programmes & 4 PG programmes in the School of Engineering, 2 UG programmes


& 2 PG programmes in the School of Computing and 1 UG programme in the School of Artificial
and Ph.D. programme in Engineering, Computing, Humanities & Physical Sciences.

The current student strength is - B.Tech.: 2780; M.Tech.:112; Ph.D.: 314. Around 2000+students are
Hostellers and the remaining are Day Scholars. We have 154 faculty members of which 109 are with
doctoral degrees and the remaining faculty pursuing their research leading to Doctoral Degrees. The
School also has 6 Post Doctoral Fellows and 1 Research Fellow.
Accreditations

Our University has been accredited with ‘A++’ grade by National assessment and accreditation
council in 2021 and also it has been placed in the highest category i.e., category ‘A’ by the Ministry
of Human Resource Development.

Amrita has emerged as the seventh best university in the National Institutional Ranking Framework
(NIRF) Rankings 2023.

In THE University Impact Rankings 2023, a pioneering initiative to recognize universities around
the world for their social and economic impact for sustainable future, Amrita has been ranked among
the Top 50 in the world.

This has been possibly only with the bountiful grace of our beloved mother SADGURU MATA

Amrita University has always given paramount importance to research. We are emerging as one of
the fastest-growing institutions of higher learning in India as we have established 180+
collaborations with top 500 world-ranked universities in a short span of 18 years with extensive
faculty and student exchanges and cross-continental research projects. Many centers of excellence
have been started in cutting-edge areas.

Compassion-driven research with a strong societal impact is the dominant theme underlying the
University’s vision and priorities.

We have garnered global recognition for our work, breaking barriers with a focus on innovative
thinking, integrated research, and addressing future needs. The researchers at our University have
achieved significant milestones with 500+ research projects, 14,000+ publications and 150+ patents
to their credit.
Researchers of our academic divisions and the University’s lab aim to bring positive change to the
world.

The Research Thrust Areas at Bengaluru campus are AI in Healthcare, AI for Cloud & Security,
Human Language Technology, Green Computing, Data Driven Modelling & Analysis of Complex
Systems, AI, OT & Cyber Security, Remote Sensing & its application in Environment, Micro &
Nano Fabrication of Devices, Signal Processing, Advanced Communication, Microgrid, Robotics &
Automation, VLSI Systems Architecture & Circuits, RF & Wireless Systems, AI & Blockchain,
Materials Science, Sustainable Development Technologies, Graph & Network Theory,
Computational Modelling & Engineering Simulations, E-Mobility, Industry 4.0, Postcolonial
Studies, ELT & Translation Studies and Indian Knowledge System.

These research initiatives have the support of major national laboratories, industry leaders and
agencies like BEL, Samsung R&D Institute, Lighting Technologies, Capgemini, Innovation
Incubator Advisory Pvt. Ltd., IIIT-B,, Nokia, Ericsson, Bosch, IIT-Kanpur, IISc., Intellectyx Data
Sciences, Myelin Foundry, Air Works India, Bosch Global Software Technologies, Karnataka
Science & Technology Academy, Wpiro GE, Emptycup Innovation, Orangewood Labs, Buddi.AI,
Ziroh Labs to name a few.

We are currently executing few extramural funded projects on campus, complemented by seed
grants provided by the University. During the report period, the schools received extramural funding
of Rs.337.42 Lacs from DST-SERB, DRDO-Delhi, ICMR, DRDO-ARDB, ISRO Respond, VGST,
SVR Infotech, alfaTKG Technology, IISc.-Bengaluru, Central Sanskrit University, Central Institute
of Indian Languages & AICTE, 4 consultancy projects worth Rs.21 Lacs and seed grant funding of
Rs.101.2 Lacs.

During the current academic year, the following 4(four) labs have been established, in addition to
the already existing 12 research labs:

These labs represent cutting-edge research and innovation in their respective fields, contributing to
the advancement of knowledge and technology within the academic community and beyond.

In terms of publications, the faculty members of our campus have made significant contributions
publishing in renowned journals across different categories. Notably in 2023, they published 73
papers in Q1 journals, 38 papers in Q2 journals, 26 papers in Q3/Q4 journals along with 192
conference papers and are continuing this momentum in 2024.

Additionally, we are proud to announce the granting of 3(three) patents during the reporting period:

1. Dr. Sandeep Singh Chauhan for the invention titled “CMOS Compatible Micro-machined
Piezoelectric Energy Harveste” in November 2023.
2. Dr. M. Vinodhini for invention titled “System and Methods of an Efficient and High
Throughput Network-on-Chip Architecture” in September 2023.
3. Dr. Amudha J. for invention titled “System and Method for Detection of Features in an
Image Using Knowledge of Expert’s Eye Gaze Pattern” in February 2024.

The second edition of Amrita Research & Innovation Symposium for Excellence (ARISE) 2024 - a
grand confluence of brilliance, innovation, and compassion, aimed at transcending disciplinary
boundaries to collectively address the challenges facing our society, nation, planet, and nature - was
organized in the campus on 29 th February 2024 & 1st March 2024, which saw a participation of 230
members (faculty & research scholars).

These achievements reflect our commitment to pioneering research and innovation, contributing to
the advancement of knowledge and society at large.

Academic Achievements of 2018 batch students


 The 20th Convocation of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham was held virtually in October 2023. The
pass % in the B.Tech. category was 90% and in the M.Tech. category 98%. Our students have
bagged 02 gold medals and 02 silver medals at the University level in the UG and PG categories.
At the campus level, our students have bagged 6 gold medals & 6 silver medals in the UG
category and 5 gold medals & 3 silver medals in the PG category.

Library

The campus has a sprawling Library of about 1625 sq.m. area with a seating capacity of 200
and 150 in the reading halls attached to it. The library is stacked-up with 39800 Volumes,
17700+ Titles, 71 print journals & magazines, 2758 e-journals & 21800 e-books.

There is also an Inter Library Loan Service (ILL Service) available under which we have
subscribed to the Annual Membership for DELNET-New.

The ICT facilities in the campus is worth a mention, the details of which are given below:

The campus is equipped with excellent indoor & outdoor sports facilities which includes shuttle
badminton courts, table tennis, carom & chess, cricket & football grounds, volley ball & basketball
courts, kabbadi & throw ball courts, 200m athletic track and well equipped gymnasiums for boys &
girls.

The prestigious opportunity to be selected for McKinsey & Company’s Next Generation Women
Leaders (NGWL) 2023 event in Asia doesn’t come easy…. as the previous participants were an
impressive list of students from esteemed schools like MIT, Harvard, IIT, NIT and Delhi School of
Engineering to name a few. It is a privilege to be selected among talented female students and
professionals from more than 15 countries across Asia Pacific.

Won a bronze medal in the Karnataka State Powerlifting Championship held at Nelamangala, Rural

Presented their paper titled “OLBR Optimization of Location Based Routing “at ICRISST 2024. The
presentations were in offline mode at Presidency University. The Team secured third place among
the Best papers.
Sanjit Bhatia (BL.EN.U4ELC23019) bagged the 1st place in the inter-deparmtent table tennis and
3rd place in the inter-campus chess competitions

Jonna Nikhil (BL.EN.U4ELC23009) bagged 2 gold medals in District Powerlifting and 1 gold in

Satyam Sharma (BL.EN.U4EEE21029) bagged the Gold Medal in the NPTEL Course –
Introduction to Internet of things

Tangudu Ram Chaitanya (BL.EN.U4EEE21033) was selected in to the Amrita Handball


University Team.

Four Students of ME 8th Sem (Bangi Yaswanth, K Narasimha Swamy, Sudhanva Nad and Sai
Vardhan) were offered 8th Semester Internship at IIT Delhi to work on a project on High-Speed
Rail funded by High Speed Rail Innovation Center, Govt. of India, where they also got a grant of Rs.
50,000 each.
An interdisciplinary team (ME, RAE, EEE, ECE, CS and CS-AI) have qualified Stage 1 of DD-
Robocon, a National Level Robotics Competition organized by Doordarshan and IIT Delhi. The
Stage 2 evaluation is in the third week of April and if qualified, they shall be competing in the
National Level at Delhi in July 2024.

Team Vegam from Mechanical Department participated in a Go Kart completion GKDC (Go Kart
Design Challenge) Season 11 conducted by ISNEE Motorsports at Kari Motor Speedway
Coimbatore from 15th February to 19th February 2024. Team was mentored Vinod Kotebavi.

Kotyada Mohan Kiran Kumar, currently in 3rd Year of Computer


Science and Engineering, has won a Silver Medal in the Free Skating,
Senior Men category, representing Karnataka State in the 60th National
Roller Skating Championship 2023 held at Chennai. He is also the the
current President of Chethana, the college Sports Club and a member
of the Amrita University Team.

Nikhil Jonna, currently in 1st Year of Electrical and Computer


Engineering, has won a Gold Medal in the Under-59 kg category at the
Karnataka Equipped Powerlifting Championship representing
Bengaluru District. The event took place from 29th March 24 to 21st
March 24 at Nelamangala, Bangalore. Nikhil was able to clear the 350
kg mark which helped him bag the first place at the State level.
Further, he is also into videography and has been a key member in
documenting the events happening in the college.

Abhishek Pandey, currently in 2nd year of Computer Science and Engineering has
won a Bronze Medal in the Under-83 kg category at the Karnataka Equipped
Powerlifting Championship representing Bengaluru District. The event took place from
29th March 24 to 21st March 24 at Nelamangala, Bangalore. Abhishek cleared the
485 kg mark to clinch the medal.

Bengaluru Campus Women’s Badminton Team were the Winners at the Inter
Campus Badminton Tournament held at Chennai Campus. The team were
unbeaten in the entire tournament under the guidance of their coach, Mr. Naveen
Kumar.

Events organized by the School

2023 Batch B.Tech. inauguration & Induction Programmes was organized from
31st July 2023 to 14th August 20243. 800+ students were inducted into the
programme.

Alumni Meet was organized on 20th January, 2024, enabling a rendezvous of old
classmates and teachers. It was an incredible reunion of alumni joining from India
and abroad. The meet enabled participation in the hybrid mode as well. Alumni
residing far away could join online to get a glimpse of their alma mater and interact
with old classmates and teachers on this very special occasion. Close to 280+
alumni came to the campus and equal number joined online. The Amrita
Bangalore Alumni Awards were given to Ms. Divya Hosur, IAS and Mr. Jimmi
James, they both were honoured with ‘Distinguished Alumni awards. Special
Mention awards were given to Ms. Deepa Damodaran, Mr. Vishal, Mr. Dipayan
Bannerjee and Ms. Ashwini Ramchandran for their continued support to their
Alma Mater. Alumni were lovingly felicitated with mementoes.

The 2023 ICPC Asia Amritapuri Doublesite Regional Contest was conducrws in
our Bengaluru campus on the 27th and 28th of January 2024. Totally 242 teams
were part of this regional contest. The contest for 69 teams was conducted in our
campus. DunderMifflin, a team from the Indian Institute of Technology –
Kharagpur won the contest.

28th February 2024 is etched firmly in the minds of two eminent institutions,
Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham and Colorado State University as senior leaders
from both institutions gathered at the Amrita Bengaluru campus to sign a
memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish an International Joint Center of
Excellence in Digital Safety and Assurance. The gathering included Provost, Dr.
Maneesha Ramesh, Director of Cyber Security Research Center, Dr. Krishnashree

Achyuthan, and Dean of Amrita School of Business, Dr. P. Manoj from Amrita,
along with other senior academic and administrative leaders. Representing
Colorado State University were President Amy Parsons, Vice-Provost Kathleen
Fairfax, scientists Dr. Indrakshi Ray (Computing & Cyber Security) & Dr. Ken
Reardon (Engineering), and several other senior academic and administrative
leaders. It is envisioned that the partnership will lead to long term high quality
academic and research outputs including student and faculty exchange programs,
joint research projects, X+Y joint degree programs, and joint guidance of doctoral
research students.

Amritadhara, the Cultural Ensemble of ASE-B organized various events during the

report period:

 The investiture ceremony of the office bearers of Amritadhara 2023-24 was


held on 14th September 2023. Amritadhara badges were given to office
bearers of all the clubs under Sanskriti and Prachodana wings of
Amritadhara. With the inclusion of IEEE Signal Processing Society,
Toastmasters Amrita Bengaluru (TAB), Google Developer Student Club
(GDSC) and Microsoft Ignite Student club (MISC), now Amritadhara is an
ensemble of 46 clubs.

 The first-year students were welcomed to the campus during induction by


the Amritadhara team with a variety of cultural, technical and sports

activities. The talent hunt, Kalakriti’23 was organised exclusively for the
first-year students by team Amritadhara on 23rd September.

 Amritavarsham’70 was celebrated in a grand manner in the month of


September 2023, starting with the blood donation drive organized by Prerana
on September 5th, Cleaning initiative at the Government Hospital in
Halanayakanahalli, Bengaluru on September 22 nd, visit to Bosco Mane &
Bosco Vikas orphanages were organized on September 24 th, orchestrated a
compelling rally in collaboration with the Gram Panchayat on September
25th to champion the cause of reducing plastic usage, advocating for the
Clean India campaign, and underlining the significance of utilizing dustbins
for a cleaner environment, a community-driven event named
"Amalabharatam" at the Majestic Bus Stand on September 29 th, Plantation
event in the backyard of the Government Hospital in Halanayakanahalli on
September 30th, Clean-up drive on Choodasandra Road on October 1 st 2024.
On the day of on Amritavarsham’70 which is 27thSeptember 2023, the
events started with Pooja and chanting of stotras. The inter collegiate techno
management fest, Dastaan’23 was also launched on this day, with
chendamelam, kathakali and theyyam forms. The fest promo release was
done by the celebrity, Mr. Deekshith Shetty.

 For the first time in the campus, an intercollegiate 3-day multi-fest,


Dastaan’23 was conducted from 24th to 26th November 2023 with flagship
events like Hackathon, Robowar, Talk shows and many Technical and

Management workshops. Celebrity shows including the performance by


Lost Stories and a concert by Neeti Mohan was organized. All the clubs of
Amritadhara collaborated to organize events during Dastaan like Escape
room, Volactronics, Algomania, Hogwarts Hackfest, Radiant Rivals, The
Everything Quiz, Film Flash, Marketing Odyssey, Temporal Titans, Best
Manager, Danza Fiesta and Battle of Bands. An early morning 5km run,
‘Miles for Smiles’ was also organized as a pre-cursor to Dastaan on 5 th
November 2024 on the 80ft road in Indiranagar.

 Independence Day. Kannada Rajyotsava and Republic Day were celebrated


in the campus by hoisting the flag, followed by cultural programs. Events
like cookery competitions and Rangoli competitions were also organized on
these days.

 All major festivals like Ganesha Chathurthi, Durga pooja, Samskrit Diwas,
Mahashivarathri, Geetha Jayanthi, Ramnavami, etc. were organized in the
campus with the support of Vedavani, the Vedantha and Sanskrit club. Gita
chanting on the Gita Jayanti day, Samkshepa Ramayana Chanting on
Ramanavami day, Andal's Thirupavai, Chanting of Venkateswara
Suprabhatam, Sloka chantings on Mahashivarathri day were all organized by
the Vedavani club. This club also conducts Bhagavat Gita sessions regularly
every Thursday in the campus.

 The campus saw many music performances by Raaga on various occasions


like, Tribute to A. R. Rahman and many open mic events. Inter-department
Dance and Yoga competitions were held by Narthana and Yoga clubs. 30 of
the Yoga club students also performed on a ‘Yoga Road Show’ in November
2023. Narthana students gave dance performances on Engineer’s Day,
Ganesha Chathurthi day, Shivarathri day and during ICPC in the campus.
They also performed during AMMA’s birthday in Amritapuri. Many
flashmobs were presented by the team during various occasions.

 The drama club, Abhinaya organized, Heist Play, Western Play, Street Play,
Shivaratri Play and a Street Play Workshop. They also participated in a IIIT
short film fest.

 Smriti club in collaboration with Kala made selfie booths and photobooths
during Kalakriti, Prakalp and Dastaan. Smriti is planning their flagship event
‘Fotofiesta’ and a photo walk to Hampi in May 2024.

 Kala club decorated the campus on all the fest days with their creative and
artistic skills. The beautiful wall paintings are a contribution of Kala to the
campus.

 Dharohar, the heritage club, celebrated International Mother Language Day


with fervor, highlighting linguistic diversity and cultural richness. They also
organized various events like ‘Splendors of Dwaraka’, ‘Make your own

Ganesha’, ‘Run a Bhoomi’ and ‘Sacred Ensembles of Hoysalas’ in the last


year.

 Toastmasters conducted various open house events and an event named,


‘Lies before truth’. Dhwani organized ‘The ICON’ for freshers and a poetry
competition ‘Love Unplugged. EPIC organized movie recreation and many
movie screenings. They also organized a workshop on ‘Cinema Secrets’.
Quiz club organized ‘Sports and Entertainment Quiz’, ‘Anime and Manga’
quiz and their flagship event, the Inter-Department Quiz.

 Squad organized adventurous trekking trips to Dudhsagar, Dandeli and


Gokarna. Republic day and Independence Day parades are also their
endeavor.

 Lekhani club diligently supported in the report writing of all events that
happened in the campus. They also conducted, "EXPRANOMOUS-Notes of
Reflection" in September 2023.

 Chetana the Sports Club conducted many sports events during the academic
year, the biggest sporting events being the “miles for Smiles 5K Run’ and
the Dastaan Sports Tournaments. The Miles for Smiles Run got up to 600
registrations, with people from both within and outside college participating
in the event. The run was supported by the Adidas Running Community.
The winners were presented with Adidas goodies. The Datsaan Sports

Tournament was a coalition of 6 sporting events. Football, Volleyball,


Handball, Basketball, and Powerlifting were organized in the Men’s
category and Throwball was organized in the women’s category. This is the
first time a multi-sport inter-colligate level sports tournament was organized
in Bengaluru Campus. The event received a decent response with 40+ team
registrations from all- over Bengaluru in various sports. The winners were
presented with cash prizes from an overall prize pool of 60,000/- rupees.

 Clubs under Prachodana, the technical wing of Amritadhara organized many


workshops and talks. ACM and ACM-W organized a seminar on ‘overleaf’,
‘Insightful discussion on MLOPS’. GDSC conducted event series such as
‘Google Cloud Study Jams’, ‘Dive into open source’ and ‘Shark Tech-
Bridging domains in start ups’. The gaming club, FORGE managed ‘Clash
of Champions’ and ‘Gaming Quiz’. ACE club organized 'Entrepreneurial
Triathlon' and the AMAL club organized ‘Trail Blazers-The best Manager’
and ‘Personality Quiz’. JIDO conducted workshops on voice control
automation, 3-D printing and design, Automation and IoT. They also
organised an industrial visit to Honeywell and IISc. CodeChef organised
‘Smart India Hackathon Internal Competition’, ‘Code Maze’, a workshop on
‘Devops’ and ‘Introduction to HTML and CSS’. Vidyuth organised many
invited talks on topics like, ‘Insights into Zimba software’, ‘Circuit Design
and Embedded Systems’ and ‘Empowering Junior minds. ECCF, the
Electronics, Computers and Communication Forum conducted Techmania,
Tinkercad workshop. Their flagship event Electronica will happen in April

2024. Sankhya club organised MATLAB workshops for the first-year


students. Prakalp 2024 Science Expo was conducted on 28th February 2024
by Aavishkara club. Ingenium conducted Thrift Treasure, Robowars and an
Alumni talk by Anuj Bhalla. IEEE PES and IEEEIAS organised
‘Unscrambled Challenge’, conducted workshops on Machine Learning for
Electrical Engineers, on Recent Lighting Technologies and Applications.
The ACROM IEEE RAS conducted Robotics Ideathon. Investo club
conducted a talk show on personal finance.

 Team Vegam of SAE participated in a ‘Go kart’ competition conducted by


ISNEE motor sports, Coimbatore. CSI club conducted a seminar on ‘Cloud
Computing - An Industrial perspective’ and a two days’ workshop on
‘Emerging research direction in Computer Vision’.

 The IEEE Signal Processing branch was inaugurated on November 4th,


2023, with guest lectures by distinguished professionals. They also
organized a Tech talk on BCI and Neuro Technology. MISC was
inaugurated on 13th March 2024 along with ignite talk events and
enlightening discussion on the future of technology and Generative AI.

The Internal Complaints Committee, as the name suggests, is an internal


committee responsible to receive and redress complaints of sexual
harassment. This committee has been given the responsibility to sensitize the
employees & students about their fundamental right to have safe and healthy

environment at their workplace and what conduct constitutes sexual harassment,


the ways & means which are being adopted in the campus to prevent occurrence of
any such event.

Throughout the year, the ICC has been actively engaged in various activities,
including:

 Conducting meetings with female students three times in the girls’ hostel to
introduce ICC members, address their difficulties, and discuss potential
solutions. As a result, several improvements were made to enhance hygiene
conditions in the girls’ hostel.
 Supporting the Civil20 India Working Groups on Gender Equality and
Integrated Holistic Health in organizing an event to unveil “Spotlight Red:
Teaching Learning Modules on Menstrual Health and Hygiene
Management” (MHHM). Dignitaries such as IAS Officer Ms. Cauvery,
Transwoman Social Activist Dr. Akkai Padmashali and Cine Artist Ms.
Rupali Ganguly graced the event.
 Collaborating with the Squat Team to organize a C20 Human Logo
formation event.
 Conducting awareness sessions on sexual harassment for first-year B.Tech.,
M.Tech. and MBA students during their orientation programmes. Separate
sessions were organized for first-year female students.
 Arranging sessions on the awareness and benefits of using reusable
sanitation pads for all female staff members.

 Celebrating Women’s Day 2024 with various activities including lunch for
all female employees, a panel discussion featuring accomplished women
from different fields, and distribution of sarees to blue-collared female
employees.

These initiatives underscore the ICC’s commitment to promoting a safe and


inclusive campus environment while empowering individuals with knowledge and
resources to address & prevent sexual harassment.

In addition to the above activities, as part of Amrita Kalanjali over the next two
days, the Amritadhara team will be presenting a wide array of events on campus
enriching the campus environment. We look forward to the vibrant and inspiring
experience that Amrita Kalanjali and the contributions of the Amritadhara team
will bring to our campus community.

I am sure I have presented before you a comprehensive report detailing all the

proceedings / events that have taken place in our campus in the last one year.

Taking experiences from the past, we are moving ahead in our endeavor to
place our university in a better position amongst its contemporaries in terms
of academics & research standards. I am ending this annual report by seeking
Amma’s blessings.
