POINTERS

1. Random variables are determined by chance and is usually denoted by a capital letter.
2. Discrete Variable- Countable
3. Continuous Variable- Measurable
4. Sum of probabilities is equal to 1.
5. Mean is the weighted average of the possible values that the random variable can take.
6. Median is the midpoint of the measurement.
7. Mode is the most frequently occur data.
8. Variance is calculated by summing the product of the square of the difference between the value of the random variable
and the expected value.
9. Standard deviation is the square root of variance.
10. Standard normal distribution/ curve is a normal probability distribution that has a mean equal to zero and a standard
deviation equal to 1.
11. In a normal curve, the mode which is the point on the horizontal axis where the curve is maximum occurs at x equals the
mean and median.
12. Normal distribution/ curve approaches the horizontal axis asymptotically as it proceeded in either direction away from the
mean.
13. The area in a specified region under the normal curve is associated with probability, proportion, and percentage.
14. Study how to find z-score using the z- formula.
15. Parameter is a descriptive measure computed from a population.
16. Statistic is a descriptive measure computed from a sample.
17. Random Sampling is the procedure in determining samples from a population in which the selection of a sample unit is
based on chance.
18. Study the different sampling techniques.
19. The mean of the sampling distribution of the sample means is equal to the population mean.
20. Random variables cannot have one value.
21. The probability of the value of a random variable could be zero.
22. The value of a random variable could be zero.
23. The sum of all the probabilities in a probability distribution is always equal to one.
24. Study about tossing a coin and how to get the probability of the experiment.
25. Probability distribution = Probability Mass Function
26. Study about rolling a die and how to get the probability of the experiment.
27. Mean is the central value of the probability mass function.
28. Measures of Variability or Dispersion are variance, standard deviation, and range.
29. Measures of Central Tendency are mean, median and mode.
30. The normal curve is a bell-shaped curve symmetric about the mean.
31. Mean and standard deviation of a normal distribution are not equal.
32. A large standard deviation corresponds a wider normal curve while a small standard deviation corresponds a thin normal curve.
33. The total area under the normal curve is 1 or 100%.
34. Study the area from below and above the mean, and 1, 2 and 3 standard deviations away the mean.
35. Study how to get the area of z-score using the z-table.
36. Sample space is the set of all possible values of a variable.
37. Population is the entire individual in a group.
38. Sample is the subset of a population.
39. Study about the different sampling techniques.
40. Study the difference between statistic and parameter.
41. Sampling Distribution is a frequency distribution using the means computed from all possible random samples of a
specific size taken from the population.
42. Study how to get the random samples using combination.
