1. There are 20 defective items per 1000 of a product. What is the probability that there is 1 defective in a batch of 100?
2. A box contains 5 red, 7 white and 10 blue balls. If three balls are drawn in succession without replacement, find the
probability that the balls drawn are in the order blue, white, red.
3. Find the probability of drawing a heart or a face card from a single draw from an ordinary deck of card
4. A winner is to be selected through a raffle draw from a box that contains counting numbers from 1 to 20. What is the
probability the winning number is a multiple of 2 or 3
5. A card box contains 5 green cards and 4 yellow cards. If three items are picked at random, assuming that you return the
card after picking each time, what is the probability that at least 1 of them is a yellow card?

Problem solving: Show your complete Solution (15 points each)

1. The probability of a professional resigning after receiving their 13 th month pay is 0.35. In a sample of 7 companies,
previous data shows that at most, six employees resign after receiving their pay. Assuming the same number is still
occurring, simulate the number of professionals who might resign using the random string of numbers 234 – 191 –
078 – 853 – 995 – 156 – 569, for each company (labeled Company A – G), respectively.

2. During bad economic times, industrial workers are dismissed and are often replaced by machines. The history of 100
workers whose loss of employment is attributable to technological advances is reviewed. For each of these individuals, it
is determined if he or she was given an alternative job within the same company, found a job with another company in
the same field, found a job in a new field, or has been unemployed for 1 year. In addition, the union status of each worker
is recorded. The following table summarizes the results.
(a) If the selected worker found a job with a new company in the same field, what is the probability that
the worker is a union member?
(b) If the worker is a union member, what is the probability that the worker has been unemployed
for a year?
(c) If a worker is a nonunion member, what is the probability that the worker has been employed in a
new field?
