Latin
• The computer is derived from a Latin word "computare"
which means "to calculate", "to count", "to sum up" or
"to think together".
• Therefore, the word computer more precisely means a
"device that performs computation".
• The first digital computers were developed between 1940
and 1945.
• Konrad Zuse, in 1941 developed "Z3", the first modern
computing machine. He is regarded as "the inventor of the
computers".
• ENIAC (Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer)
was the first US-built electronic computer. It was
developed by John Mauchly and J. Presper Eckert.
• In 1981, IBM PC with Intel Processors and MS-DOS were
introduced.

About Embedded Computer
• An embedded computer is an integral component of
most embedded systems.
• It is a combination of hardware and software that is
designated to perform a highly specific function.
• For example, the type of embedded computer in a
washing machine will not be the same as the
embedded computer in a Nikon camera.
• Other examples include digital watches, mobile
phones, music players, specialist IT hardware (such
as networking hardware), and almost any kind of
industrial or domestic control system.

• A network consists of two or more computers that are linked in order
to share resources (such as printers, CDs), exchange files, or allow
electronic communication.
• A Network shares hardware, software, and data among authorized
users.
• Authorization is the function specifying access rights/privileges to
resources related to information security and computer security in
general and to access control in particular.
• The computers on a network may be linked through cables, telephone
lines, radio waves, satellites, or infrared light beams.
Two very common types of networks include:
• LAN (Local Area Network) - A network that is confined to a relatively
small area.
• WAN (Wide Area Network) - connects networks in a larger
geographical area.

India's first computer was installed in 1955 in Indian Statistical
Institute, Calcutta (now called Kolkata).

History of India's first computer

• The age of computers in India began in 1955 with the installation of
HEC-2M
• HEC-2M was a computer designed by A.D. Booth in England
• The Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) at Calcutta (now Kolkata) was
the first institute to have the privilege.
• India bought its first computer for the amount of Rs 10 lakh.
• It was also recognized as a number-crunching machine with a huge
size.

• An integrated circuit or monolithic integrated circuit
is a set of electronic circuits on one small flat piece of
semiconductor material, usually silicon.
• Jack Kilby and Robert Noyce invented Integrated
Circuits. Hence, Option 2 is correct.
• The same concept has been invented by Jack Kilby
at Texas Instruments in Dallas a few months
previously. of Texas Instruments patented the
principle of integration, created the prototype ICs
and commercialized them.
• Kilby's invention was a hybrid integrated circuit
(hybrid IC), rather than a monolithic integrated
circuit (monolithic IC) chip.
