Demo Lesson Plan in Mathematics I

The document provides a lesson plan for teaching students to estimate and measure length using non-standard units. The plan includes objectives, materials, procedures like reviewing concepts and doing activities, and an evaluation. Students will learn to use body parts and objects to measure length without standard units and show understanding of length concepts.

Demo Lesson Plan in Mathematics I

Content Standard:
The learner demonstrates an understanding of the non-standard units for the measurement of
length.

Performance Standard:
The learner is able to estimate and measure an object's length by laying multiple copies of a shorter
object end to end.

Learning Competencies:
The learner identifies, estimates, and measures length using non-standard units of linear measures.

I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson 75% of the students will be able to:
a. Students will be able to estimate and measure the length of an object using non-standard
units of measurement.
b. Can do the following activities such as using their body parts and other things to measure
another object.
c. Show appreciation and the importance of being able to estimate and measure the objects
around them using non-standard measurements.

Abstract
From the answers given by the students in the activity, the teacher defines estimating
and measuring length using non-standard units of linear measures.
The linear measurement is the distance between the two given points or objects.
Length is the term used for identifying the size of an object or distance from one point to
the other.
Estimating the Length without the use of Measuring Tools.
Example:
The child’s hair is long The Giraffe is tall and the Monkey is short

The Crocodile is long and the Caterpillar is short

The non-standard units of measurement do not have any fixed measurement in numbers.
The measurements vary from person to person and object to object.
Example 1: Measuring using Non-Standard Unit.

The pencil is 4 paper clips Long The car is 4 erasers Long

The notebook is 2 hand spans Long The table is 4 pencils Long

Foot Span The animal is 8 bats Long, or The animal is 2 rugs long

Application “Let’s Try this” (by Pair)

Directions: Measure the length of the following objects available in the classroom. Use the
hand span and straw in getting the length of the objects. You may discuss your answer with
your seatmate.
