What’s New Good boy!
Johnny, you
are kind!

JOHNNY BE GOOD!

Johnny got up very early to attend his EPAS class. He is very excited
because he was able to provide all the drawing tools and materials his teacher in
EPAS assigned them to bring. At the school, (inside the classroom) he saw his
teacher then he cheerfully greeted him.

Johnny: Good morning Sir!

Teacher: Good morning Johnny, Oh, you are early today.

Johnny: (Johnny suddenly look at the board and saw some illustrations) I’m fine Sir,
what are those illustrations for?

Teacher: Ah, yes, those are diagrams, an example of a technical drawing used

in Electronics.

Johnny: Oh, I see, are they important in electronics sir?

Teacher: Johnny, it is very important because it is used to

represent the circuit of different electronic devices, gadgets, and

appliances for every technician to understand the circuit. Do you get it

Johnny? By the way, you may go to your seat now. Your classmates are

already here.

11
Johnny: Yes sir, thank you, sir!

Teacher: (morning routine before the class)

Class, good morning! How are you today?
Did you bring your drawing tools and paper?

Class: Yes Sir!

Teacher: Very good! Okay, please look at the board everybody. I have prepared

different illustrations of an electronic circuit which is an example of a

technical drawing. Any idea if what is the other term to call for the

electronic circuit? Anybody?

Johnny: (raises his hand and answers) Sir my answer is a diagram.

Teacher: (smiles) Very good Johnny! It is called an electronic diagram, a technical

drawing used in electronics as a schematic representation of electronic
circuits. For you to understand the circuit, you must learn how to interpret
this diagram. This morning, everybody will draw a diagram. You will choose
your diagram from the board. Are you ready for class?

Class: Yes Sir!

Teacher: Good! So, for 15 minutes draw a diagram using your drawing tools and

drawing paper. You can pass your output if you are done.

(As the teacher walked around to check the work of his students, he saw

Johnny lending a pencil and a drawing paper to his classmate).

What are you doing Johnny?

Johnny: Uhm, Sir, Buddy has no pencil and drawing paper, so I lend him so that he
can also draw and be able to submit an output.

Teacher: Very good Johnny! You are such a good boy! Hope everybody will be like

Johnny! From now on I will call you “JOHNNY BE GOOD!”

Class: (cheers Johnny) Yes! Hurrah for Johnny, Johnny be good!

Teacher: (after 15-20 minutes) Class, submit your work now. Do not forget to write
your name and section in your drawing output, okay! And clean your area
after.
Class: Yes Sir!
And the teacher continues the processing of the activity with the class.

Like the story Johnny? Being kind and helpful to your classmates and respectful to your
teacher is an example of a responsible and a role model student. An attitude that is worthy and
commendable! Nice one Johnny! Your parent will be proud of you! Johnny be good!

What is It

A technical drawing is a sketch, drawing or a plan that is designed to communicate

directly and express ideas of how a certain object is constructed, created, assembled
electrically, or electronically and it works or functions.
In Electronic Product Assembly and Servicing, a technical drawing is very
important because it is used as a representation of different circuits of electronic devices,
gadgets, and appliances.
Technically used by technicians, electricians, and planners to understand the
system of every electronic and electrical technology. Without knowledge about
interpreting a technical drawing will surely make it difficult to understand electronics even
electricity as well.
A diagram is one example of technical drawing used in electronics. A diagram is a
simplified drawing that shows schematic representations of different circuits. It also
includes different components, symbols, and connections.
There are several types of diagrams used in electronics and electricity like
schematic diagrams, pictorial diagrams, and many more. Below are given diagrams of an
electronic or electrical circuit for you to interpret

What’s up Johnny, I have

something for you to know
especially on how to interpret a
technical drawing.
Ready Johnny? Let’ do it!

INTERPRET A TECHNICAL DRAWING:

1. Recognize components, assemblies, or objects
Knowing how to recognize components, assemblies, or objects will help you
understand and interpret a technical drawing well.

3. Interpret the symbols used in the drawing
Technical drawing in electricity and electronics is essential because these are
used as a communication tool to express an idea of how certain things have been made,
constructed, assembled, and how it works. Typically, these technical drawings in
electronics are called diagrams or circuits. These diagrams or circuits can be formed by
using different electronic or electrical symbols. These symbols represent the different
electrical and electronic components, and these are standardized.
To understand the diagram or circuit easily, you need to know how to interpret
these symbols. Below are different electronic and electrical components with pictures and
corresponding symbols.

COMPONENT/INSTRUMENT/DEVICE PICTURE SYMBOL

ANTENNA(receives the signal)

CAPACITOR(stores a charge)

DIODE(rectifies voltage)

FUSE(protect circuits)

4. Validate the drawing against job requirements or equipment

VALIDATION is essential because it assures that the quality and accuracy of a certain
technical drawing used in electronics meets the qualification standards of the job and the
industry.

A. 1.Schematic diagram of an electronic circuit that is not validated

A. 2. Schematic diagram of an electronic circuit that is checked or validated

Am I going to
validate the two diagrams of
the lighting circuits? Well, I
think, I already know is the
difference.

B. 1. Schematic diagram of a lighting circuit (to be validated with the diagram below)

B. 2. Pictorial diagram of a lighting circuit

1
17
➢ By validating the two diagrams, the result shows that from the schematic diagram there
were only two lighting bulbs as a load but on the pictorial diagram, there are three lighting
bulbs. Therefore, the pictorial diagram being presented did not meet the exact number of
loads based on the schematic diagram. There should only be two lighting bulbs in the
pictorial diagram circuit.

Well Johnny, did you see the

difference between the two
diagrams? It is a must that a
technical drawing should be
checked or validated to
ensure that the drawing is
correct and conforms to the
technical standards and job
requirements. Get it Johnny?

THE PARAGRAPH

Johnny is designing a power supply circuit diagram. He set the dimensions of the
power supply circuit. Starting from the SW1 to F1 the measurement is ___(1)____, and
from F1 extending to T1, the line measures___(2)___. From T1, he stretched the line
going C1 which exactly scaled ___(3)___. While setting dimensions for the diagram he
is designing, his brother Brix asks him, Hey Johnny, what is D1 stand for? Johnny
answered him, ah it is a __(4)______. His brother asks him again, can you tell me more?
Johnny replied, ok yes, what would you like to know? Brix said, How about C1__(5)_____,
F1, ___(6)___, S1 ___(7)____and T1____(8)_____? Johnny smiled with delight and
cheerfully answer his brother Brix. Brix smiled back and said, thank you, Johnny! You’re
such a good brother. Anytime Buddy!
Johnny proceeds with the drawing of his diagram. He set the dimension of D1 to
D2 at ___(9)_____, D2 connecting D3 at exactly __(10)_____. After a while, Johnny is
finishes sketching the diagram, he finalizes the drawing with his technical pencil and pens,
labels the components and the dimensions. Whoosh! done with my diagram, I can submit
this tomorrow to my EPAS teacher. Johnny is very happy knowing he has an output to
submit to his favorite teacher. Johnny performs housekeeping and cleaning of his drawing
instruments and keeps them in his drawing cabinet. Johnny then goes out and plays
basketball with his friends because he’s done with his homework.
