SHUTTER SPEED o
To set the shutter for the desired speed, rotate serrated
ring until the desired speed is opposite the index mark.
-
Where the maximum shutter speed is to be used, be sure to
set the ring before cod<ing the shutter. In the case of the
lower spe'eds, the sequence of manipulations is of no impor-
tance. Since the maximum shutter speed is obtained by
means of additional spring force, a slightly greater force
will have to be exerted in this case to move the cocking
lever and the speed setting ring. Besides the shutter speeds
indicated on the setting ring, it is possible to use any
desired intermediate values, the only exception being values
between 1/ro and l/zs sec. and between l/zso and 1/soo sec.,
respectively.

COCKING THE SHUTTER

Before every exposure, it is necessary to cod< the shutter
by pulling the cod<ing lever around as far as it will go.

hner Slrosse - Telephone, 75421 Telegroms, COMPUR

I
RE[EASING THE SHUTTER
Upon the release being operated, the shutter will open;
after the exposure time selected on the speed setting ring
has elapsed, the shutter will close again. With the
setting ring in its "B" position, the shutter will remain open
as long as the release is kept depressed. A built-in safety
device, serving to eliminate accidental exposure, makes it
impossible to release the shutter before it has been cod<ed.

///
The Model "O" Syndrro-Compur Shutter is equipped with
a built-in selftimer whidr may be used with all shutter
speeds, except for "B" and l/soo second. To render the
selftimer operative, ffrst cod< the shutter, then push the
selftimer engaging button to the rear, and ftnally again
cod< the shutter as far as it will go now. Upon the
-
release being operated, the selftimer mechanism will start
and, after a delay of approximately ten seconds, it will
clid< the shutter. This procedure will have to be repeated
-
for every selftimer exposure, as after the selftimer has
been used, the shutter is automaticallv set for standard
exposure.

FTASH SYNCHRONIZATION

The flash synehronizer makes it possible, up to maximum

shutter speed, to synchr onize the opening of the shutter

with the moment at whieh the flash is of maximum

brightness.

Depending on the type of flash used, the synchronizing

lever is moved as far as it will go, either to its "X" or to
its "M" position. No additional manipulation is necessary,
as cod<ing the shutter will automatically make the camera
ready for flash exposure. with the synelronizer in its
..X" position, which takes care of delay-free electronic flash

equipment, contact is made when the shutter is fully open'

In the case of the "M" position, contact-making is advanced
in accordance with the delay of syndrro flash lamps. When
the self timer is used, it is possible to use only those
shutter speeds which are given for the "X" position of the
synchronizer (see table on reverse side of folder). The
actual position of the syndrronizing lever is of no conse-
quence in this case, as the "M" contact is broken auto-
matically within the shutter when the selftimer is operated.
When selecting the exposure time to be used, be sure to
take into consideration the following factors: F-stop,
distance from the subject, amount of light produced by the
fash, emulsion speed, refector draracteristics, and natural
light conditions. Information as to optimum exposure data
will be found in the instructions supplied with fash powder,
flash lamps, and electronic flash equipment. In the case of
the "X" position of the synehronizing lever it will be
necessary to take into account all light coming from sources
other than the flash.
The table given indicates for all types of fash equipment
the shutter speeds capable of being used with the respective
syndrronizing lever positions.

SYNCHRONIZER CABTE AND PtUG

The design of the Compur syndrronizer plug whidr has a
o
flexible cable and a slightly eccentric pin ensures safe
meehanical connection and reliable contact. The cable
elements are arranged concentrically, therefore despite its
extremely small diameter, the tensile resistance of the cable
is very high. The screw union, which can easily be undone,
while relieving the cable, serves to bring the respective
current-carrying parts into safe contact.
www.butkus.us

coNTACr PtuG SOCKET o

One pole of the contact plug socket is connected with the
shutter housing so as to ensure safety in operation in cases
where electronic flash equipment is used. The concentric
arrangement of the contacts eliminates errors arising from
incorrect polarity.

CURRENT CARRYING CAPACITY

The synchronizer contact is capable of carrying the ffring
energy produced by any of the commercially available
electronic fash units. Its insulation is tested with an alter-
nating current voltage of 1000 volts.
In the case of fash lamps using 24 volts, a current
strength up to l0 amperes is permissible for short periods
of time. It is thus possible to fire simultaneously several
fash lamps connected in parallel. In this case, however,
the shutter should not be allowed to remain open for more
than 1/ro second, in order to protect the contact from over-
load in cases where lamp wires should accidentally be
welded together.
