LEGALIZATION OF MARIJUANA IN IN THE PHILIPPINES
Thesis Statement:
Marijuana should be legalized in the Philippines because it can treat cancer,
glaucoma, multiple sclerosis, nerve pain, seizure disorder, and chrome’s disease.
When drugs are produced and obtained inside a regulated system, it is possible for us to know
about the contents and dosage of what we are taking. This helps us manage the risks. However,
cannabis obtained from a dealer, or a friend is unknown and may contain contaminants like mold,
mildew or filters that may be toxic. Legalizing cannabis provide an opportunity to put regulations to
minimize potential harms. The danger of buying and using any illegal drug is what we can never
know for sure what exactly is in it. And marijuana can treat some diseases like cancer, glaucoma,
multiple sclerosis, nerve pain, seizure disorder, and chrome disease.
Marijuana remains prohibited for both recreational and medical use in the Philippines,
according to my most recent report in January 2022. The Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act 2002
makes it illegal to cultivate, possess, sell, or consume cannabis. Individuals caught in possession of
marijuana suffer sever consequences under this law, including imprisonment and heavy fines. The
government’s position in marijuana legalization has been primarily conservative, with worries raised
about the potential detrimental impacts in public health and safety.
Efforts to legalize marijuana in the Philippines have been met with strong opposition from
lawmakers and conservative groups. While there have been talks and suggestions to decriminalize or
regulate its medical use, progress has been gradual, with no actual steps toward legalization
implemented. Furthermore, cultural, and religious elements influence public opinion on the subject,
with conservative beliefs prevalent in many sectors of society. As a result, legalizing marijuana in the
Philippines remains a divisive and unsettled issue, with no significant changes predicted in the
foreseeable future.
Legalization of marijuana in the Philippines when it is implemented, the old-fashioned
medical practices of the mountain people will return, and many lives will be saves when it is used for
medical purposes. But for me, when it is implemented, the young people who use it must be caught in
wrong doings and abusing it because we know that many young people are abusing the use of
marijuana and will tell them that marijuana will only be legal, when they need to treat with sickness.
