Science reporting
Ed: Good ________, today we are going to discuss on climate change typically on its direct
impact on the temperature and extreme weather.
-next slide-
Shealley: In terms of direct temperature impacts, what does it mean?
-next slide-
Shealley: Direct impacts on temperature refers to temperature variations that are caused by
particular actions or occurrences. There are several different sources of impacts, such as factors
affecting the environment, human activity, and natural phenomena.

Ritzy: In context of extreme weather, what does it mean?
-next slide-
Ritzy: Extreme weather then refers to extreme or uncommon weather conditions that vary from
usual and have the potential to seriously harm, interfere with, or endanger life or property.

Ritzy: Now I will explain the two meteorological conditions with the use of the El
Nino/Southern Oscillation (ENSO) cycle. -explain history of ENSO-
ENSO has the power to alter the worldwide air circulation, which in turn affects global
temperature and precipitation, it is one of the most significant climate phenomena on Earth.
Despite being a single climatic event, ENSO can exist in three different states or phases. Since
ENSO is a connected climate phenomenon, these two opposite phases, "El Niño" and "La Niña,"
require specific changes in the atmosphere and the ocean.
-next slide-
Ed: La Niña and El Niño periods are characterized by extreme meteorological conditions. We
refer to the cooling of the ocean's surface as La Niña. La Niña is an acronym for the ENSO
cycle's chilly phase, which causes flooding and excessive rain in many places.

Shealley: Global weather patterns are impacted by the El Niño, a recurring change in the ocean-
atmosphere system of the tropical Pacific. The surface of the ocean warms as a result. In many
places, it is linked to intense heat and drought.

Ritzy: Let's now discuss the top 5 effects of climate change.
-next slide-
Ritzy: Rising temperatures are one of its effects, which help to explain why the planet is
warming more quickly than usual. Among the effects are droughts as well. Because of the quick
rise in temperature, there is less rainfall to support the plants and crops necessary for plantations.

Ed: Unexpected temperature variations that disrupt the earth's weather cycle are the cause of
extreme weather phenomena like tornadoes, tsunamis, and torrential rains. A rise in temperature
may also bring about strong rains, which may lead to washaway and destruction of property.

Shealley: Many people felt the need by the effects of climate change to migrate to different
regions of the world in order to escape the disastrous consequences of the sudden weather shifts.
-next slide-
Shealley: The modern world is experiencing the effects of climate change such as direct change
in temperature, as evidenced by this chart, which was created in 2024 and displays the planet's
greatest temperature.

Ritzy: In 2023, there have also been extreme weather events. Following a huge flood that
claimed over 300 lives, millions of Africans experienced food scarcity due to a three-year
drought in Africa. Certain parts of the world, including China, North America, and Europe, can
experience fatal heatwaves.

Shealley: In 2023, there was another tragedy when three of Libya's dams fell, killing 3,400
people. Meanwhile, Canada had the worst wildfire season ever recorded.

Ed: We might thus mitigate the consequences of environmental change that have devastated our
world by imitating some of these instances.
-next slide-
Ed: Making the switch to renewable energy is very beneficial since it lessens the effect of
greenhouse gas emissions from sources like solar, wind, and hydropower. By encouraging
sustainable agriculture, which lowers emissions and maintains the health of the soil, we may help
mitigate the effects.
-next slide-
Shealley: As forests assist in maintaining emission gases and strengthen the air atmosphere,
reducing the use of deforestation in forests will considerably lessen the effects of climate change.
By banding together to minimize the effects of climate change, we can also take part in
international organizations that support its effects of change.

Ritzy: To sum up, learning about the significance of temperature and extreme weather in the
modern world will be very helpful in our understanding of climate change and its abrupt
changes. We must protect our own lives and our possessions after considering the dangers to
humanity and our resources. We can prepare for the unexpected effects of climate change and
protect everyone's public health by limiting economic and ecological risks.
