INTERNET

INTRODUCTION : The Internet is an increasingly important part of


everyday life for people around the world. But if you've never used the Internet
before, all of this new information might feel a bit confusing at first. The World
Wide Web—usually called the Web for short—is a collection of
different websites you can access through the Internet. A website is made up
of related text, images, and other resources. Websites can resemble other
forms of media—like newspaper articles or television programs—or they can
be interactive in a way that's unique to computers.

MEANING: The Internet is a global network of billions of computers and


other electronic devices. With the Internet, it's possible to access almost any
information, communicate with anyone else in the world, and do much more .
The internet is a global hub of computer networks — a network of connections
wherein users at any workstation may, with authorization, receive data from
every other system (and often interact with users working on other
computers).
DEFINITION: According to oxford dictionary, “a global computer network
providing a variety of information and communication facilities, consisting of
interconnected networks using standardized communication protocols”.

According to wikipedia ,” The Internet (or internet)[a] is the global system of


interconnected computer networks that uses the Internet protocol
suite (TCP/IP)[b] to communicate between networks and devices. It is
a network of networks
According to NCERT, “ Entertainment: The Internet is also used for
entertainment. There are numerous entertainment options available on the
internet like watching movies, playing games, listening to music, etc. You can
also download movies, games, songs, TV Serial, etc., easily from the internet.
Uses of the Internet
Some of the important usages of the internet are:

• Online Businesses (E-commerce): Online shopping websites have made


our life easier, e-commerce sites like Amazon, Flipkart, and Myntra are
providing very spectacular services with just one click and this is a great
use of the Internet.
• Cashless Transactions: All the merchandising companies are offering
services to their customers to pay the bills of the products online via various
digital payment apps like Paytm, Google Pay, etc. UPI payment gateway is
also increasing day by day. Digital payment industries are growing at a rate
of 50% every year too because of the INTERNET.
• Education: It is the internet facility that provides a whole bunch of
educational material to everyone through any server across the web. Those
who are unable to attend physical classes can choose any course from the
internet and can have point-to-point knowledge of it just by sitting at home.
High-class faculties are teaching online on digital platforms and providing

quality education to students with the help of the Internet.


• Social Networking: The purpose of social networking sites and apps is to
connect people all over the world. With the help of social networking sites,
we can talk, and share videos, and images with our loved ones when they
are far away from us. Also, we can create groups for discussion or for
meetings.
• Online banking : The Internet has also made banking much easier and
more convenient for people. There is no need to visit the bank branch to
deposit or withdraw money, as this can all be done with the help of an
internet connection.

• Gaming: The world, and India, in particular, has seen a sharp rise in
internet connection users. This has brought about a surge in the gaming
industry as well. People use the internet to play single-player and
multiplayer video games.
• Trading : Online trading has also brought about transparency in the
markets. People can research and analyse stocks, currencies, and other
commodities with ease. This has levelled the playing field and given
people equal access to the markets.
• E Newspaper: Nowadays, most newspapers have their own websites
and apps where people can easily access news from around the world.
This makes it easier for people to stay informed and up-to-date on
current events Moreover, online newspapers often provide more in-
depth coverage of news stories than their traditional
counterparts. They also give readers the ability to share articles on
social media, giving them a platform to voice their opinions.

• Research: The internet has revolutionised the way people conduct


research. It has given them access to vast amounts of information from
all over the world.People can now easily search for articles, books, and
reports on any topic they are interested in. This makes it much easier for
them to find reliable and up-to-date sources of information.

• Social networking: There is no doubt that social networking sites are


the most popular use of the internet. This is especially true for the
younger generation. People use these platforms to connect with their
family and friends and even make new connections over the internet.
